Now thanks to our terrible dictator or wait i can't say that any more have to say wonderful. Well either way thanks to Obama we now don't have the rights he just read we have the last 3 maybe 4 only. That's illegal impeach this fucker
@Kronicilln3ss great factual based answer. I agree that there needs to be debate between security and freedom, habeaus corpus and where that line is drawn. But using such incendiary language probably odes not do much to elevate the debate. In comparison, Bush probably supported more restrictions on freedom than Obama but it may be close. Ill wait for the impeachable offense that you alluded to.
For the eighth amendment you should of put up eight fingers, 5 on your left hand, and 3 on your right and actually the three on your right are your middle finger, ring finger, and index pointing finger. Now use your right hand as a claw and scratch the top of your left hand. Came up with that in a few seconds :)
I like your videos and have tweeted and Facebook posted them both to share with everyone. However, the first freedom mentioned in the 1st Amendment is freedom of Religion, but to argue over that would be trivial. The sad part is people are being taught the vague freedom that's isn't mentioned in the 1st Amendment. I'm referring to the much fabled "freedom of expression"

Man you are the coolest teacher thank you so much for your lectures please keep them coming i support your page and i'm learning a lot. I wish you were my teacher
We will not find justice at the hands of corrupt judges. (See YouTube videos) Judicial Benefits & Court Corruption Update / Evil Triangle of Court Corruption / Richard fine / Dr Shirley Moore slush funds /SBX 211. To end this title wave of corruption in our country must start with the corrupt judges. We can not bring evidence of corruption to corrupt judges. Los Angeles Superior Court judges are illegally and unconstitutionally taking 50,000.00 each for a total of 23 million per year.
My Government class watches your videos (when they're relevant to what we're discussing) quite often. Our Government teacher is a first-year teacher and is obviously still trying to get his bearings. Sometimes, you can explain things a lot better than he can- in a visual way that isn't strictly note-taking (hand gestures, visual aids, etc). Thank you for helping me pass!
My husband asked me what I want for christmas... I want a Mr. Hughes!!!! I am studying for my CA CSET and all of your videos have helped me tremendously. Thanks a million. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!
Love all your videos...but I think it's important to note that during the era of the Revolution a 'militia' was the exact opposite of a state-controlled army- it was just a group of ordinary citizens- so if anything I think the implication of the 2nd amendment was that the citizens were to be as well armed as the government itself...
I am in agreement with you. This becomes "the rub" when discussing direct interpretation vs intentions and a more broad understanding of the text. If the ? is whether or not we should have citizens militias patrolling around vs relying on the national guard /police / state cops / etc / to protect us, I would love a debate. But I think that is not what many NRA supporters claim lay to when discussing the second amendment. Im not sure I am any closer to the truth by the way, lol
Unfortunately these things are not taught in school, and the organizations that are supposedly around to help promote civil rights (like the ACLU) are politically driven and intellectually dishonest. How does the ACLU count to ten? 1-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10!
I would disagree politely. And please rest assured they are taught in my classroom. I would assure you that I spend as much time as the "bear arms" part as I do the "necessary militia" part.
Very informative. I often wish I knew more about our amendments and constitution as I consider myself fundamentally a constitutionalist. It's funny how number ten seems to get ignored a lot, huh?
Thanks. I think 10 has to do battle with the elastic clause, the fact that the Cons, states, "Congress shall make all laws nec. and proper."
Congress routinely steps on the 10th, like DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, which clearly violates not only the tenth but Art. 4 (states must honor other states laws). Before we bash the elastic clause though, we must rem. that it is a smart move designed to allow us to change as the world does around us, without it we would be trapped in the Gilded Age.
I totally agree. My concealed handgun license should be recognized in California and New York! I am religiously opposed to homosexuality, but I wouldn't mind gay marriage in all 50 states and gay couples as neighbors on both sides if it meant ridiculous unconstitutional federal/state gun laws would also be overturned.
I once heard a law professor explain that many people don't realize it says "necessary AND proper" not "necessary OR proper". I would argue proper means constitutional.
Due process has been constitutionally defined by the courts through the testing of various police actions and state laws. Fortunately, it is not necessary for the common man to know all of the ins and outs of constitutional precedent, their basic process is clearly laid out in Miranda, thats why we do that. The only people who need to know and practice constitutional due process are the officials which execute the law.And in words of the court when they ruled on obscenity,I know it when I see it.
Our teacher showed us this a few hours ago. Sadly, she didn't let us finish the whole video, so I searched and searched for it. Finally found it! Shibby, it rocks! (:
LOL Thanks for the help! P.S., this link is on Yahoo! Answers under one of Cazzie Z's questions, that's how I found it! Yeah, minidriver's idea is good, make one for the presidents
Hi Mr Hughes, this is a great video and you're right - the hand actions are a great way to remember the Amendments. You have a great way of explaining facts and I wonder if you have any ideas on how to remember the U.S. Presidents in chronological order. I have the first 22 under wraps but am struggling with the rest. I love History and you certainly make it 'come alive'. Thanks! Valerie, England

So when is 'due process' not due process, if the rules of the game are so convoluted and complex as to not be achievable by the common man?
