  • I really prefer the fb version

  • snes version rulez

  • Genesis uses a YM2612, which only has six channels (though it also has a PSG, and a trick for playing back digital samples) while the YM2151 has 8, and has a special operator for noise on the 8th channel.

  • It's called hot HEAD hop

  • this doesn't sound like it could come from an actual mega drive.

  • Time to move my feet on the Hot Heat Zone

  • @Henkco Hot Heat zone? HOT HEAT?

  • @TheWaddledont What.

  • @Henkco That's like saying chaotic chaos

  • @TheWaddledont Perhaps, but seeming the original is called "Hot Heat Hop", what do you expect?

  • col but snes sounds better

  • this version sounds like it would be in a sonic game....

it kinda makes me sound stupid because your using sega instruments but still

  • The lead instrument reminds me of Lava Reef from Sonic & Knuckles. How fitting.

  • The one person who disliked this couldn't beat Kleever

  • yeah man, this is from the noise of Mystic Cave I think? from Sonic 2?

  • The Genesis in theory is capable of technically higher quality audio than the SNES but since it isn't sample based it's much harder to simulate real instruments. Programming instruments that sounds really good was also not easy. The Genesis audio chip being a synth isn't as limited by samplerate as the SNES. The SNES only had 64kb of memory for song data so all samples for a song had to fit in that space. The SNES output sound at 32khz but in a lot of cases the actual samples were lower quality.

  • @jdsony From an SPC document I read, samples average at 14 KHz or something. Many mistakenly say that the samples are 16-bit, but they are 4-bit ADPCM. The Genesis does standard 8-bit PCM and can play up to 26 KHz samples at good quality.

The Genesis system outputs at higher quality at 53 Khz, but the actual quality you hear depends on the console model. Late model 1's and many model 2's (not all) sound more distorted. Early model 1's with HD logo have the best sound output.

  • @MistKnacker

What made the SNES sound better than the Genesis was the hardware accerated Reverb Echeo and Chorus effects which the Genesis lacked.

  • @MistKnacker

It's possible to get 16-bit 32Khz PCM out of the SNES by directing writing to the echo buffers, you'd quickly consume all the ROM doing that though.

  • doesnt sound ALL genesis too much, is still uses some samples channels from the SNES version, you should use ONLY GENESIS audio, but you can add some samples like the durms, and remove the lava boiling

  • @GatucaMan It is possible to use multiple sample channels in Genesis music, but it requires software mixing. This was not utilized often due to increased CPU requirements, and you would have to sacrifice sample quality. So, most games that utilize samples (usually for drums, voices, orchestra hits, etc.) along with the FM only use a single channel. Therefore, with software mixing, you could technically use some samples in this song like in the ones in the SNES version (e.g. lava boiling).

  • 42 people kick ass

1 person has no musical experiance and fail at life,

  • Sonic in Krokodile Kauldron

  • I love it! Good job man!

  • @Essasmusic

The SEGA Mega Drive Genesis used the YM2612 FM sound chip aswell as the SN76489 PSG sound chip. There is no YM2151 in the console?

  • that is so aseam! i like that song more then the oriegeno one

  • Sounds like half NES... half SNES. I didn't grow up with SEGA. Nintendo runs threw my veins. Horrible if you ask me... theirs like a horrible buzzing sound... which is suppose to be a bass I suppose, but it hurts my ears. lol.

  • NEAT

  • Comment removed

  • Just reminds me of why my Genesis never got any love from me. Why purposefully ruin a good song?

  • Now we need someone to port the rest of the game over to the SEGA Genesis...

  • @TrueDudeX Wouldn't mind it if only to prove that DKC 1,2,3 could have been ported to the genesis and still played like the original ( looks at SDK 99 terrible pirate)

  • IMO it needs more of a bass or drums, but other then that it is awesome

  • This sounds great. Sounds like a Sonic track now! Like an updated Marble Zone or Lava Reef Zone... (although I loved the original Lava Reef Zone music).

  • Gotta love that Genesis twang. (I'm serious, it's awesome)

  • dit you know that even simple snes sound and graphics are emulateble on the nes?

that,s richt some sound effect in nes tiny toon like hitting a ceiling or jumping on enemy,s sound simmilar to supermario world.

even the graphics looks in some way's simmilar to mario world and mario allstars.

  • That sounds a little too good for the actual Genesis. Sounds like you're using multiple voice channels, and the samples sound of much higher quality than I've ever heard on a real Genesis.

  • I've always loved the sound chip that the genesis uses

  • of course i'm used to the original, but i def. think the SNES ver. is much better sounding (maybe more reverb here would make a diff)

  • That's pretty sweet!

  • This is an awesome idea, do more SNES -> Genesis game music and vice versa if you haven't already.

  • if the world was about to end in 2 hours i would remind myself to hear this song 10 more times before it ends thanx for the upld mayne

  • DO FOREST INTERLUDE!!!!!

  • Did you use a special instrument for this, or did you make it with something for the SEGA Genesis? (and how can I get it?)

  • sweet you should do more!

  • awesome... Please post more of these like the web woods theme :D

  • awesome

  • Cool :D
