I'm currently going to school for Homeland Security and Emergency management. In a few years I will be traveling helping with disaster relief. Just like the Red Cross. I may even be a part of the ones in this video. I'm excited that I will be able to help like this. These people really can and do make a difference in the world.
True, we are not perfect, however we do NOT get paid for what we do as volunteers. We go into disasters with no hope of compensation, no promise of reward, and quite frequently. The Red Cross is NOT begging for funds to pay Admin, we campaign to raise funds for our communities!! IF you have an issue with Admintrators, earmark your funds for local CHAPTER disaster response! Yes, we dash out to just about any disaster, just like paid First Responders, but we do it as 100% Volunteers!!
97% of the American Red Cross is Volunteers. That enables more of your donor $ to go directly to those in need. We provide assistance without regard to race, creed, or social standing. We are politically neutral, and do not preach or convert to any faith. We are not perfect, but we are a globally recognized symbol of HOPE. I am proud to be an American Red Cross Disaster Relief Volunteer.

Seriously? Why are so many people in love with the Red Cross? As a professional firefighter I've had dealing with the Red Cross for 20+years. The Red Cross begs for money and sprints for the spotlight after any disaster to beg for more money. I'm not saying they dont do some good things, but how much does the Red Cross CEO make a year? How much of their donations goes directly to helping people? Support the Salvation Army. They do the same work without begging and being opportunistic. STAY SAFE!
I am a volunteer for the Red Cross in Austria. Do you know that - opposite to you - about 95% of the RedCross staff are volunteers, and so they are not paid for the things they do? The Red Cross CEO does not exist in this way, as the Red Cross is not a company. Management functions do exist, but - believe me - they are not too well paid either. And for the donations: Do you think all the material we use in disaster relief is made a present to the Red Cross?
I do not dismiss the diligence and dedication of Red Cross volunteers. I admire Red Cross volunteers. It's those at the top of the Red Cross that I question. I can only speak to my experience with the Red Cross in the USA including my experience with the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina.

A red cross volunteer did not give my pocketknife back after Hurricane Katrina when I loaned it to her to open a MRE . I'm still waiting .
