All of those 'guitar gods' are certainly amazing on the guitar - all with different styles. For this reason, it can be a daunting task trying to learn from each one of them. The solution may be to just learn from Tommy. In this performance, I'm hearing different styles at random moments....Stevie Ray, Eric Johnson, Clapton, even Vai (with that flangey slapping) and, sorry to those who hate him, Malmsteen (lightning mid-neck scales with high compression). Summary: Tommy rules big time!

and once again, my theory that you have to have a good or a brilliant rhythm and anything you play over it will sound good. if you combine tommy's skills and knowledge with that perfect rhythm under his solo, you get a motherfucking awesome piece of music such as this :D
@orbitration 'Scuse me, I used it once. I live in Boston, Massachusetts which has two of the three major music schools in the USA and this is a hotbed of guitar talent. I hear good guitarists playing on the street and in the subway stations all the time. I just meant that I'm more impressed with his acoustic playing.
And as a guitarist I do think that it's easier to sound impressive on an electric than on an acoustic by playing loud rock and using effects.
actually its easier to play an electric guitar than an acoustic.. so since hes so good at acoustic, that makes him one million times more amazing on an electric rather than an acoustic. :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Slash owns him big time .. what a waste of electricity ... lol maybe good technique but no sense at all ... playing bull shit all around over and over again ...
Slash isn't even in the same league with this kind of talent. This level of talent and ability interprets the soul of the music and soars to places of beauty that Slash doesn't even know exists.
@snakeinthegrass20 You have just shown your bad respect about musicians and music in general. You did only mention classic guitar players, and you did your personal billboard of the "best". Best about what? Every single musician, classical or whatever, who did have the honor to collaborate with Tommy Emmanuel have shown their respect because he's surely one of the most if not the most talented and gifted musical genious of our time. On top of that he's one of the most amazing person on earth.
@noelmeehan You really need to broaden your horizons if you think this is 'musical genius'. He is good and I like him- but he's not in the same league as a guitarist compared to Segovia etc. As a composer he is nothing at all compared to Bach, Rach or Amadeus.
@snakeinthegrass20 Sorry, but I'm just returned from his concert in Rome at Teatro Tendastrisce. There was a standing ovation of over half a hour and screaming throughout the all concert, requesting him to come back after the show. Your words are nothing in my eyes. What he gives to people is just out of this world. I'll let you continue to compare him to various artists or "leagues" or whatever you want, since in music there's no competition at all, only feelings and respect. Cheers Mr. Bach.
@snakeinthegrass20 ....(part2) ... so if somebody wanna say from the deep of his heart that Tommy Emmanuel is the best, they got the credit to do so, just because the contribution Tommy gave and still give to music is so huge nobody on earth could say a damn shit or compare him to anybody. Just my two cents (sorry for my damn bad english).
@snakeinthegrass20 elitism at it's finest what else can I say. It annoys me when people do this they spout off guitarists/musicians who others may not have heard that much about in an attempt to debunk other people arguments, it's just sad. Oh and btw Tommy is a musical genius, anyone who denies it is really just bitter about his talent.
justin sandercoe has the best lessons on youtube... hes an amazing teacher & has lessons for all levels... hes your best bet for free lessons & good explanations
My favorite guitarist ever since I saw his Over The Rainbow on YouTube in 2007. Now I know what he was doing to adapt in the 80's No one can catch up with Tommy.
yes i think this song would work quite well on Guitar Hero, the verse at the beginning isn't won't be that difficult, but then when it gets near the middle and end with the mad crazy solo bits and the harmonics, it would be brilliant
i don't think guitar hero would work well on acoustic really, that game has always been the 'rock star' thing making you feel all powerful and like a god, acoustic doesn't really do it, although it is more intimate
Almost everyone bends the neck on a Tele. With a Bigsby there is no need to bend the neck. It's a tremolo system. It's great that you have a Telecaster though.

hahayeh, tommy in this video looks alot like the main character from the movie..i only noticed this cause i saw the movie a day before commenting this video and the quote about 500 miles of shit stuck into my head hahaha
Hmm well it seems simple enough to me. Bar one or two runs cos I'm not down with my scales as much as I am with chords I guess I can muddle through an acoustic cover Using standard blues scales for the runs and have it up in a few days xD.
I spoke to someone last week who said that Eric Clapton was better on the Electric guitar and Tommy was better on the accoustic, I think Tommy is better on both
Sort of a Jeff Beck,Knopler meets Eric and Hank with good old Bert WEED,and everyone else thrown in,GOD,I wish I could stand infront a band in a Pub and play like this,OK u guitar players, try and better it ????
Edd VH & EricC Have both done some admirable work in a limited area. Both together couldn't lift Tommys' jock strap. How could anyone mistake a tele for a Jazmaster? I own a63 Jag( son of a Jaz), orig 61 LesPaul SG, Godin Multiac(nylon) and A Tennesee Rose. Each Has Different Qualities or I wouldn't have em. We used to rewire the PU's& swt fot distortion Effects. You had to learn how,no pedal on the floor. Reverb was the only pedal. My 64Fender Super reverb still keeps up.Tommy Plays Everything!
