Post script: i suppose I should have included Villazon, but somehow I've never been moved by his voice -- though he's got good stage presence. Florez is in a class of his own for some roles, but not competitive with these guys in anything like the mainstream repertoire.

Four impressive new tenors on the scene -- Calleja, Kaufmann, Kaiser, and Filianoti; all promise more than the current reigning *stars* [Alagna, Giordani, Alvarez, Vargas] . . . will be interesting to see if any of them can sustain art and voice and become the kind of distinguished singer we need now that Luciano is gone and Palcido is winding down.

The conductor is a shame. How can one conducts with such a fast tempo and so loud trying to drown the tenor? Despite all these hurdles the wonderful voice of Fillanoti soars. Excellent lyric tenor!

Sono d'accordissimo con te! Non ne posso più con quella coppietta (Villazon & Netrebko)che va contro ogni corretta tecnica del bel canto. Bravissimo invece quei pochi tenori come Filianoti che sanno cantare con una tecnica impeccabile e la sublime musicalità e passione!

Meno male ci siano qualcun'altro che la pensa come me. Stasera a Roma c'è il concerto di Villazon alle Terme di Caracalla, in onore di Gigli. Ma si può chiamare Villazon per onorare Gigli... E' vergognoso...!!!
