The contents of the song are nonsensical though. For example, the first two lines:

I am a Chinese from Southeast Asia, and I can read the characters, but I do not necessarily understand them. Do you mean I need to be a Mainlander or a Taiwanese to understand the lyrics?

no, no. You just need to be familiar with Chinese pop culture (particularly, Chinese BBS culture) in order to fully catch up something inside those lyrics. For example, I am a Chinese American, and I learned a lot of slang by connecting with people in Mainland China. And all those lyrics are written by kinomotosaku, a Chinese Canadian.
