Arcturus is incidentally one of the few bands where I know the line-up for the albums, but why should you need to know the bio's of the band members and the band's background to enjoy and support a band and it's music? Simen has never acted like a rockstar, he's one of the few truly down to earth people in the black metal scene these days and he has a true passion for music. Simen has been very busy with his personal life and while that's not an excuse for being unreliable (which I'll have to admit he often is) it just seems rude to talk about him as though he's a bad person when he really isn't. Things simply didn't work out with Dimmu and both parties have their flaws.

Hellhammer is a beast! I actually stumbled onto Arcturus via Winds, and haven't regretted it! Though I must admit there are some strange quirks I'm not too fond of, but then there are those moments of absolute fucking balls-to-the-walls awesomeness that make up for everything.

Its one of those instrumental songs that you actually want to listen on the cd more than other songs. Usualy instruments are put as a last track which you barely listen to or dont even know because its hidden or some other stuff.

the thing is, the keyboard (synthesiser) is really a instrument which can change it sound as the musician wants; the problem is that there are lots of bad keyboardists which play lame typical pop-style keyboard arrangements. however, there are good keyboardists which adapt the sounds to metal and make the whole sound of the band awesome, not only an atmosphere (which is also very important). for instance, electronic sounds dont have to sound techno-dance if the keyboardist is good.

I grant you your opinion, but I don't agree at all. As long as its not just using the standard arpeggio's and basic chords all the time, or just playing what another instrument plays, many a time keyboards add great atmosphere. I do agree that it should be used with discretion. Bands like Opeth, Arcturus, old dimmu Borgir (for all tid, stormblast etc) use keyboards to great effect. But of course, it's all opinion ^^

the bands you mentioned are dedinitely exceptions. And very talented ones at that. They are a perfect example of how to use keyboards the right way. What I am speaking of. are the ones that end up sounding like pop music. Metal for me is a music that transcends that type of mundane sound.
