This video is so well acted, from the subtleties in his expressions alone you begin to picture such a detailed life story for this guy, i feel so sorry for him!
This is one of the most fascinating and detailed music videos I've ever seen. Its mind-blowing to watch such a wide range of emotion packed into a four and a half; and all without a single word spoken. This is without doubt my new favorite music video.
Its a music video, the chap's an actor called mark heap who had roles in a lot of british comedies such as 'Spaced', 'Jam' and 'The Green Wing' among many other things.
Made me smile. Incidentally whenever I put my head under in the bath I always blow out of my nose- stops the water going straight up and lets me sink :)
this video is done in such a clever way that it can be open to personale interpretation. it has a simple message but some people interpret it as the guy killing himself at the end. If thats the way u see it, thats the way u see it, but i reckon most people pick up on the simple message that the simple things give us the joys of life, and sometimes we are so rushed that only realise later when we have time to reflect
its just a reaction you wont let yourself suffocate(well atleast your body wont), once you start struggling for air youll jerk your head out of the water
I figured this song was about a guy who lives a mundane life like most of us and generally people would see his life as crap (often he does). But when he gets the chance to think about it and reflect(i.e in the bath) he realises hes got a great life, obviously in between he is a divorced parent.
Stop giving me minuses, just try to answer me... this guy is unhappy, he collapses in a bus, he takes a pill. Then he plays with his kids, but apparently doesn't have much fun, seems miserable all the time. Obviously he is divorced. In the end he brings back memories of the day and smiles as he is about to go underwater. What is the film about? What's the punchline? Please answer.
sorry i thought you where as stupid as you sounded. i think its free to interpret. but you can see that when he's in the water its enveloping him and surrounding him you can juxtapose this with the fact that he's trapped in his shitty life.

Remember the movie titled Wizard of Oz.? (spoiler) Turns out the wizard wasnt a wizard at all but just a man behind a curtain. Did it confuse you as a lad that they still kept the title of the movie "Wizard of Oz" even though there was no wizard? This is why you get minuses. Because you are dense and ask stupid questions.
That's the saddest music video I've ever seen. Brings me down how he smiles at the prospekt to "rest in peace" at the end. But a great video, won't listen to this track for a few days, though.
It's from the Sticko sketch from the British show Big Train. It's on here: /watch?v=58zzs4hzEIg. The guy in the video is Mark Heap and he was also on Jam and Spaced.
It's supposed to be an inspirational song, I'm fairly sure. I really doubt that's the point it was going for, I think he was just enjoying it. He'd gone from drudgery to taking pleasure in simple things.
Hell, it's only 2008 and I'm already nostalgic of 2005. I heard this track a bit too many times 3 years ago, but I've begun to miss the fun. Joyful and innovative.
He was fantastic as Brian the artist in Spaced. I wish Simon Pegg would write another series of that. Spaced and Game On have to be the two best sit coms of the 90's.
I interpreted it as he was happy. The way he smiles as he goes under the water, I felt like he was experiencing joy; joy from something as simple as feeling water on your face or playing on playground equipment (which he is thinking about at the time). Hanging out with a kid, especially your own, can bring out that child-like enjoyment of things.
Look at it like this: he has a beautiful day despite all the crap and he feels like a kid again. He's happy. I'm pretty sure that most people loved going underwater as a kid, and he's simply doing the same.
I just thought at the end thinking of all that happened, laughed, and was just happy to still be alive. But feel like a kid again is a better statement.
cant see how so many reviews got it wrong! he is a guy who gets to see his daughters for one day, and has to give them back to his ex wife who shuts the door on him. In the bath alone again he remembers the time with them...and goes under...he wants to be a family all the time, not a one day a week dad.
get help? wat coz of the aids comment? i dont think you get what im saying. its not an opinion of mine its a reference from a show called "brasseye" that he was in and played a homosexual man with aids. its a direct quote. check out the show its genius. you will get what i mean when you see it. its not derogatory towards gay people.
