  • this is genius

  • This video is so well acted, from the subtleties in his expressions alone you begin to picture such a detailed life story for this guy, i feel so sorry for him!

  • I Love Mark Heap in everything he has done , esp JAM & Spaced

  • lovvvvvvvve this video =D

  • I love the camering, how did they do it?

  • @Tigerclaws63

I'd have to imagine it's a rig tied to his stomach or something. But then he turns transparent at the one part so I have no ideaaa.

  • Just got tuned in via facebook... love Four Tet and Mark Heap! Awesome video!

  • Mark Heap is great, but Kieran Hebden is the one who's really awesome.

  • Fabulous!

  • WOW cool didn't know he was in a music video, this guy is so funny, funky music too :D

  • This is one of the most fascinating and detailed music videos I've ever seen. Its mind-blowing to watch such a wide range of emotion packed into a four and a half; and all without a single word spoken. This is without doubt my new favorite music video.

Also, I would totally do Mark Heap.

  • Its a music video, the chap's an actor called mark heap who had roles in a lot of british comedies such as 'Spaced', 'Jam' and 'The Green Wing' among many other things.

  • i dont really get it.. what is it for? i mean.. is it a music video?

  • @BXL4ever yes, for the song smile around the face by four tet

  • @marinlabyrinth wow pretty brave of him to do something like that

thought i'd might have been a campaign or something.. lol

  • did he die?

  • Sweetass song, brilliant video! Word

  • beautiful video captures everything in life... bottom line is to smile!!!!!!!!! :)

  • Brilliant

    wow just absolutely amazing

    great job

  • The additional sounds from 2:56 onwards just make me happy.....

  • Mark Heap is a Legend ...

  • ello brian

  • Class vid, great song

  • Mark Heap is amazing!

  • hehe great tune brian was the best character in spaced

  • kool video!

  • This reminds me of my dad. :'(

  • Poignant video :(

  • Its brain! :D

  • loving it!

  • this is like the 14th time i've listened to this track in 2 days

  • this always makes me feel better when things are bad.

  • Best music video I've ever seen.

  • best actor ever

  • Thats Dr Statham of Green Wing!!!!!

    How wierd!

    His name is Mark Heap.

  • @willukus FALSE.

    That's Brian from Spaced.

  • @ParkerAdam

Maybe they're the same? Dunno, I haven't seen spaced... but that's definitely Dr statham. True.

  • They are. He's a top actor, you should see him in Spaced though.

  • Made me smile. Incidentally whenever I put my head under in the bath I always blow out of my nose- stops the water going straight up and lets me sink :)

  • Yeeeeah! Im feeling this right now

  • this video is done in such a clever way that it can be open to personale interpretation. it has a simple message but some people interpret it as the guy killing himself at the end. If thats the way u see it, thats the way u see it, but i reckon most people pick up on the simple message that the simple things give us the joys of life, and sometimes we are so rushed that only realise later when we have time to reflect

  • incidentally it is impossible to kill yourself through drowning by simply plopping your head underwater

  • go and try it. dude.

  • its just a reaction you wont let yourself suffocate(well atleast your body wont), once you start struggling for air youll jerk your head out of the water

  • I fully agree with you spallyman!

    ahh I love four tet!

  • @spallyman I am sure you have the intentions of the makers of the work absolutely 100% - I would say it is uplifting

  • everytime in see this guy hes doing something cool!

  • Mark!

  • im always smiling and people around look at me like im naked XD

  • you are naked under your clothes

  • AHH!!

  • me too

  • Love the video and love the song!! :)

  • such a magic magic magic video

    . X .

  • viduha-500!. viduha=video(rus.)

  • Mark Heap is so great

  • He's the dad of that kid that dies in the 2nd series of Skins, no?

  • I figured this song was about a guy who lives a mundane life like most of us and generally people would see his life as crap (often he does). But when he gets the chance to think about it and reflect(i.e in the bath) he realises hes got a great life, obviously in between he is a divorced parent.

  • no this is an instrumental and music (?) has nothing to do with the video.

  • i love this song

  • At his best in Green wing as Alan Statham he is hilarious!! love him!!

  • shit was suppose to give a thumbs up.. sorry love him in green wing and love green wing

  • at his best as Brian from Spaced!!!

  • I think he's just always at his best, and he's an amazing juggler

  • spaced and jam rule!!

  • isn't this the guy from green wing?

  • i love him so much

  • I love this video - Mark Heap is just so beautiful. :-)

  • Oh my god wonderfull, its a video for dreamer it makes me dream anyway, it makes you feel like a bird, or a amibe, I ♥ it

  • even little good thingthings don't always carry til the end... great video. with the song! reality check.

  • It's about a guy that has a shit life and at the end he kills himself.. Are you all that daft?

  • isn't that the guy from spaced?

  • Yep, Mark Heap, who's the current Andrex puppy, Old Speckled Hen fox and in an annoying car advert ;)

  • yeah

  • yup

  • What is this film about, anyway? The song is about smiling, and this guy seems super-miserable.

  • Stop giving me minuses, just try to answer me... this guy is unhappy, he collapses in a bus, he takes a pill. Then he plays with his kids, but apparently doesn't have much fun, seems miserable all the time. Obviously he is divorced. In the end he brings back memories of the day and smiles as he is about to go underwater. What is the film about? What's the punchline? Please answer.

  • its called irony

  • thank you captain Obvious! ;) I just thought there was something beneath the irony...

  • sorry i thought you where as stupid as you sounded. i think its free to interpret. but you can see that when he's in the water its enveloping him and surrounding him you can juxtapose this with the fact that he's trapped in his shitty life.

  • Made me smile :)

  • grand music.

even better vid. such a human vid.

at last, something about role play and us. the male within 21ct.

    excellent. trop bon. wunderbar.

    :)

ps: how can ab. come to the conclusion he commits suicide? Rubbish. We will prevail.

  • oh its mark heap! he's so awesome

  • Does anyone know where this was filmed?

  • london

  • Comment removed

  • Er, who says he commits suicide? I sure didn't read it that way. Not least because it's kinda hard to drown yourself in a tub that shallow...

  • u are a tit mate

  • Thanks. Well said

  • Best music video of all time.

  • fuckin amazing video

  • Love the song! But...its so sad! :{ It is definitely being put on my favorites.

  • its like pi just in colour and with mark heap

  • That's the saddest music video I've ever seen. Brings me down how he smiles at the prospekt to "rest in peace" at the end. But a great video, won't listen to this track for a few days, though.

  • jeez i love this video.

  • ca frise l'excellence

  • The tone of the song actually does put a smile aroung my face

  • 温馨的感觉。。。

  • "C'mon. Haven't you got anything stronger?"

    Brilliant.

  • Whats that quote from?

  • It's from the Sticko sketch from the British show Big Train. It's on here: /watch?v=58zzs4hzEIg. The guy in the video is Mark Heap and he was also on Jam and Spaced.

  • @hipnova That is one helluvan obscure reference right there!

  • omfg...i love this.

  • This song made me remember how sick electronica is. I love this track.

  • such a wonderfully crafted piece of music.

wish i could create something like that.

  • It's supposed to be an inspirational song, I'm fairly sure. I really doubt that's the point it was going for, I think he was just enjoying it. He'd gone from drudgery to taking pleasure in simple things.

  • Hell, it's only 2008 and I'm already nostalgic of 2005. I heard this track a bit too many times 3 years ago, but I've begun to miss the fun. Joyful and innovative.

  • haha nice one!

  • He was fantastic as Brian the artist in Spaced. I wish Simon Pegg would write another series of that. Spaced and Game On have to be the two best sit coms of the 90's.

  • Heap is brilliant.

    Hebden is a genius.

    Shear liquid wonderment.

  • its so sad... I dont want him to die!

  • I actually thought he was finally SMILING!

Just needed a second underwater to relax, that's all..

  • Ain't no-one dying here... he realises that his life, though grindingly ordinary, also has moments of unexpected wonderment

    :-)

  • how did the film this? We he holding it most of the time?

Anyway it's a good music video for this song which is good.

  • This is a beautiful song

  • Does anyone else interpret the bathtub part as suicide?

  • I interpreted it as he was happy. The way he smiles as he goes under the water, I felt like he was experiencing joy; joy from something as simple as feeling water on your face or playing on playground equipment (which he is thinking about at the time). Hanging out with a kid, especially your own, can bring out that child-like enjoyment of things.

  • Look at it like this: he has a beautiful day despite all the crap and he feels like a kid again. He's happy. I'm pretty sure that most people loved going underwater as a kid, and he's simply doing the same.

  • I just thought at the end thinking of all that happened, laughed, and was just happy to still be alive. But feel like a kid again is a better statement.

  • cant say that i loved the song, but the video is amazing, mby one of the best clips ever.

  • Mark Heap is amazing.

  • only hebden could make a modem sound so good

  • somebody give this guy an Academy Award

    already.

  • yeah hes got bad aids. if a man came in a shot us all to pieces with a machine gun we might get his blood in our mouths

  • 2 words:

    Get Help!

  • You'd be o.k. The only people who'd get aids are the ones yawning.

  • Comment removed

  • I also liked him as "a homo" who insults cows by cussing at them and writing words like "twat" on their sides.

btw, could anyone upload the "dirty old farmer"-sketch from Blue jam?... Mark Heap always makes me think about cruelty toward cows.

  • God I love this song... the ultimate cheer up...

  • Beautiful song

  • cant see how so many reviews got it wrong! he is a guy who gets to see his daughters for one day, and has to give them back to his ex wife who shuts the door on him. In the bath alone again he remembers the time with them...and goes under...he wants to be a family all the time, not a one day a week dad.

  • It's open for interpretation,

You can't say people got it wrong, cause the beauty of a piece of art is that everyone sees it differently.

  • get help? wat coz of the aids comment? i dont think you get what im saying. its not an opinion of mine its a reference from a show called "brasseye" that he was in and played a homosexual man with aids. its a direct quote. check out the show its genius. you will get what i mean when you see it. its not derogatory towards gay people.

  • I think you replied to the wrong comment,

I would never suggest you get help.

  • niceeeee

  • mark heap is brilliant and this song is pretty cool, not my usual thing but it's got a nice b=vibe to it

  • I love how the Music reflects the video.

How much it reminds me of childhood.

This song and Video are Truely awesome.

  • this video makes me want to cry.. not in a truly sad way... it just makes me feel like crying

  • I can't quite explain it but it the music and video do seem to simultaneously make me extremely happy and extremely sad

  • This is one of the most transcendentally beautiful things I've ever seen.

  • Are you saying Mark Heap is transcendentally beautiful?

  • Let's just say I wouldn't kick him out of bed for painting with his penis

  • he's got bad AIDS hasn't he?

  • Oh no! I only liked him when I thought he had good AIDS!

  • lol
