Pre-torn jeans, pre-faded shirt, stupid "rock star" pose for a Youtube demo video, way too much distortion, dumb CHUGGA CHUGGA SQUEEEEL metal riffs, douche-y haircut. You, sir, are horrible.
I have owned 4 SG's over the past 15 years or so. I bought this same model Raw Power used on Ebay and it is now my favorite guitar. The uncovered 57 pickups are so sweet. My other guitars can't match the sound.
By the time I saved up enough to buy one, they were discontinued. They didn't discontinue any of their ridiculously overpriced $6000 guitars though. You know, the ones that the average player could never afford. Thanks Gibson, old buddy, old pal. You're super.
@XFFCTpunkrowk I Have the exact same model than whats on the video and to my liking, Raw Power is better. It's a lot heavyer and the sound is more bright.
@iaminsane2140 I like rock and metal too, but I think a natural crunch from the amp would give you a truer idea of the guitar's sound. I think pedals just cover up too much - the resonance of the wood, the natural sustain, etc.. This is coming from someone who owns about 30 pedals. Just one man's opinion.
@devtrev I agree, even with some of the cheapest guitars, once you add tons of distortion they generally sound the same as a $3000 guitar with tons of distortion! Tons of distortion takes away from the inherent tonal qualitys of the guitar.
they are kind of inconveniently set up, i really wish that gibson had done with the sg what they did with the les paul, and moved the pup switch closer to the top of the top cutaway, and the input jack to the side of the body,
@superultraguymandude the pickup switch up at the top of the body gets in the way sometimes, because when u strum, u accidentaly knock it, so they moved it. But i agree with the input jack
dude my sg raw power has a diagonal angle. my strings from the bridge to the neck seems to be slanting instead o the usual straight look. is that supposed to be normal? it's been like this ever sinve i bought it rom the shop. so, i thought i was ok.... but i'm having doubts
@Phantorion this is on all guitars and is not a problem the closer to the head stock the slimmer the string spacing therefor creating this diagonal line it whould be very hard to play chords or shred if the neck had the same diameter through out
@Phantorion No worries mate i have the same guitar and my strings are slanting also but i think it's just a good thing. If you don't like it you can allways direct the angle of the bridge.

I have a Gibson Sg Raw Power and I love it! The flat wide neck feels great in my hands and the Classic 57's compliment the bright sound of a maple guitar! Those who bash this guitar must have never played it!!!!
you would think if these maple constructed sg's really took off they would keep them around for the less careful like me.
I have already cracked 2 sg's necks just cause they can't even take a spill from a floor stand to any floor thats not carpet.
but whatever I switched to explorers now anyways, sg's break too easy and are neck heavy, the maple I bet sure can take a beating mahogany can't though.

Why does every guitar demo have to have a ton of distortion? How the hell can you get a sense of what the guitar really sounds like?
devtrev 1 year ago 27
@devtrev Even distorted guitars have individual tones. If you can't hear them then even clean tones won't help.
joeyplusamanda 10 months ago
@devtrev because alot of people like rock and metal and you can really tell how good a guitar is with distortion

If I want maple raw power, I'll put a humbucker in my strat :D
I love my LP (EMG 81/85) and I'm probably getting an SG '61 reissue with the classic 57's for a more classic sound.
drippingfaucet 2 years ago
personally, i like the sound. i also think that mahogany breaks a bit too easy, and therefore you will pay $800 to get it fixed

Would this guitar be able to pump out a phycedelic alternative sound with the maple?
Just curious

whats the difference between this one and a standard sg?

This one's all maple, where as the Standard SG has a Mahogany body and neck.

I love SGs, but in my eyes this one doesn´t look good. For me a SG needs a binding around the neck and trapezoid or square inlays.

i would love to have one of these, but i don't have a grand to spend on one....

A bit of verb and delay. Same as I would use live...just enough to moisten the tone man. This guitar rocks though.

@LAMusicCustomGuitars how do you think that would sound with a dp100 and a paf pro in the neck

Sounds very bright but nice. Are you using any off board effects or is it guitar- amp plug and play?
