  • thank you so much, i am 82 jears old but i could manage it for your explanation was easy to understand.

  • @jeanne1929 You are so sweet, thank you.

  • Thank you very much. I don't have words to explain how I am feeling because I was trying hard to learn this particular stitch on my own but failed several times!! Thanks once again!!!

  • Thank you so much! I am just learning how to crochet,,, with a million long chains of yarn on my dresser lol,,,, Watching your video, within 5 mins, I have 10 squares done.. THANKU!!!

  • @capitolo06 You really went to town, great job!

  • Great video! It's so sharp and clear and the slow mo is fantastic for beginners! I love this stitch can't wait to give it a whirl, thankyou very much for uploading this vid. We all appreciate how much time and effort can go into making tutorials .. Let along all the questions you must get.

  • Hello Teresa.

I love your way to teach us ...so calm and step by step.

I am learning Crochet at 71 ! And I have a grandaughter , I would like to make a dress, a hat, a pair of shoes for her (she is 14 months).

Do You have any suggestion - I love this Puff stitch, and we are located in Chicago, really cold so, I think it will be nice for her. I don't know how to make a long dress and hat for my baby...

Please help me , I really want to doI am old , not much time.

    Thank You so much

    Granny Zizi

  • @cybrid1940 I do appreciate and understand what you are asking. It takes me several weeks to months for creating tutorials, so it is not something I would be able to commit to.

  • @cybrid1940 We love you Granny Zizi .

  • Nice. Thanks for sharing it.

  • @simonjames1962 You are welcome. :)

  • awesome video is this teresa s. from NE???????

  • @nafordebi Sorry, not the same Teresa. I grew up in Badger Iowa, then lived in several different places as a military spouse. Now I am in Savannah Georgia.

  • If using the baby yarn, do I need to use a smaller hook?

  • @konkontaz You could try to work a few rounds to see if you like the results. Maybe you want a softer flowing afghan. A larger hook with smaller yarn will give you that.

  • Okay at first, but then just got WAY to fast for me. I currently have stitches that aren't attached to anything.. :\

  • @Darkmiss117 I sent you the beginner crochet playlist

  • This was really helpful! I was trying to find a way to spice up my granny square! Thank you!

  • @ShimmeringDelight I have a big playlist full of granny squares. Let me know if you would like me to send you the playlist or you can find it on my profile

  • I love this granny square, it wonderful! Thank you for sharing

  • @Sukalya1 You are welcome!

  • Can this be turned into a scarf? That'd be sooo cool!!!

  • @SuperBunnyTime You could either do puff stitch linearly, row by row to make a long scarf, or you could complete this square motif 10 or so times (till you get the length of scarf you want) and just stitch the motifs together and add a fringe or trim to both ends. : ) hope that helps!

  • could this be turned into a belt? i would really want to have a crocheted belt

  • how would I go about making this puff granny square a lot bigger?

  • @MrsBabyLearn You will continue following the pattern to make it larger. You may need to adjust the corners if you find they are tugging to much.

  • if i wanna to change color on this sqaure how would i do that??

  • @Stephy27Pooh You will secure the last stitch, cut 6-8 inches of extra yarn, pull through and secure. You will attach the new color of yarn with a slip stitch and continue working the same way as with the solid color.

  • I'm unclear where you are going in to after the 4th puff stitch in the first round. you say the "ending in the center of your chain two". can someone help me?

  • @ennyl413 Please visit my crochet blog. I have symbol instructions posted which will help you see where the stitches go. The link is in the video details below the video.

  • Teresa, I'm having trouble seeing where you insert your hook to join the first round. You say you're joining "in the top of the beginning". Does that mean the chain you made to secure the first puff stitch, or the chain you created before the first puff stitch? Thank ~

    ~Jen

  • @fionaazreal that's exactly what i'm needing as well. sorry didn't bother to check your post before posting mine. please help us teresa :(

  • @fionaazreal There is a loop at the top of the first puff stitch. You can also visit my crochet blog. I have symbol instructions posted which will help you see where the stitches go. The link is in the video details below the video.

  • This is amazing, im gonna use this for an afghan :).

  • @americaland Do you have any colors in mind?

  • @tjw1963

Well, its a multicolored yarn with cyan, sea blue and very light yellow :).

  • your tutorial truely is the best! thank you so much for sharing it with the world!

  • @yusyfandsofiya I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • can you help me?? i just saw crochet and i think it is amazing!!! where do i get the needles?

  • @sabrinalovesyou23 You can purchase crochet hooks from Wal-mart if your store has a craft section. They can also be purchased from your local craft store.

  • @sabrinalovesyou23, you can just go to wal-mart to find those hooks

  • @sabrinalovesyou23 for me susan bates hooks are better than boyle hooks.

  • I only can say: Wow

  • Lovely tutorial !!!!!!

  • @cbinsento Thank you.

  • This square is much smaller then my other ones.By about an inch.Could i still put it in my blanket and how.

  • @SocoBrianna What I recommend is that you work a half double crochet edging, which should make up the extra inch to make it closer in size to the rest of your squares.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you for the wonderful idea.

  • i am having issues with this stitch the yard is puckering when i continue with the stitch for instance my first five rows it pucker in the center it wont lay flat what am i doing wrong?

  • @ShortyT1959 It sounds like you may need to loosen up on the corner stitches. You can add an extra chain in the corners which should help it lay flat.

  • im a 14 year old guy, and i crochet is that a big deal beacuse all the boys make fun of me at school from crocheting should i say smothing?

  • @lovetodraw5 I am sorry that the boys are making fun of you. The best thing you can do is ignore what the kids are saying and don't say anything back to them. Arguing with them will make it worse. If it is really bad, please talk to your parents and a teacher at school. The adult people should step in and help you resolve the situation. Keep telling the adults until someone listens.

  • @lovetodraw5 just ignore those boys! i thought people were going to make fun of me because i like to crochet, but i actually got more people telling me that they think it's cool that i know how to crochet. but just ignore them, that's all i can say.

  • I ended up with a circle. Fail. D:

  • @Heartbrakemusic That is an indication that you missed the 4 increase stitches in each corner to form the points. I do have written and symbol instructions posted on my crochet blog. You will find the link below the video in the details.

  • omg im going to try this

  • Thanks so much! I'm going to make a blanket for my mother's christmas gift this year with squares of this in her favorite colors all tied together! Had I tried to read this from a pattern, I'd give up, but you make it MUCH easier!

  • Love this stitch! It looks so 3D. Thanks so much for showing it to us :)

    Robin :)

  • this is a very pretty square!

  • my b listen at 11:50 its so cool!!!!

  • @dop3izmi323 What are you hearing that is cool?

  • @tjw1963 you know how when you play a dc it skip well thats what it sounds like i wasent trying to be rude or anything it just sound so awsome by the way can you please cheeck out my videos (the IElyisa series).

  • @dop3izmi323 sorry i meant cd

  • how do you know when to do a chain 1 or 2?

  • @myaam123 I have written instructions posted on my crochet blog. Sometimes you may need to modify and use more chains. If your corners start curling up, you may need to use more chains on the corners and maybe on the sides if they are curling up. The more your practice, the more you learn when you may need to modify.

  • I am a beginner with new stiches having mastered and used only the treble fro more years thatn I can think of. you are clean clear and consise , and I find it hard to lean this sort of thing as my dyslexia gets in the way many thanks for being so kind and sharing your skill.

    Rachel

    U.K

  • @MrsJiffybag I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • hi teresa. your crochet tutorial is very helpful. thank you very much. may i ask what is best for puff stitch. can i make a scarf out of it or a blanket?

  • @Michaelyn80 I do have a video tutorial for a hat and scarf, made with the puff stitch. You can make a blanket as well.

  • Hi Teresa thank u so much for all ur vid's on youtube i can now say i can crochet and read patterns....You have such an amazing talent in teaching how to crochet i have told my friends to look you up on here and learn from the best...lol...Thanx Again

  • When I crochet it always comes out wrong and I have to start over. It always curls over itself or is completely uneven. What am I doing wrong?

  • Does there have to be nine loops for each "puff"? I was just curious because it seems like i have trouble when they gather together on the hook.

  • @livefastanddieyoung You can do 7 or 5. The difference will be that the puff will not be as full.

  • can you make a hat out of that

  • @danceshimmyshake12 I will keep that in mind.

  • tnx..

  • I love this video. thank you for being so thorough with your explination. you made it very easy to learn how to do.

  • Thank you for being so thorough and posting a long video. As a beginner, I find it really helpful to see the progression of the stitch as the piece develops and grows.

  • @FdotGirl007 You are welcome. I appreciate the comment. :)

  • Is anyone having trouble viewing this video? I've been trying to view it for a few days and it keeps stopping and skipping....anyone else having the same problem?

  • @Themscatalina There is a 360 and a 480 viewing choice on the video player. Try changing that to see if it helps.

  • @hotdog1997 You are welcome. :)

  • thanks for your video xD

  • Hi Teresa,

Thanks for sharing your beautiful hand work which I admire you for. Also you are an excellent teacher. Keep up the good works. I have never crochet a hat yet in all my life until I saw your videos. I would love for you to do a rasta hat/tam

  • youtube

  • Can you make so many a number of granny squares with this stitch to make a quilt? Because that's what I would like to do. The puff stitch is easier for me to do when I do it through a granny square.

  • I'm from Mexico and your videos are useful. Thankyou very much 'cause I've learnt a lot

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • I live in thailand.

    Thang you very much.

I look you vdo every day.

  • You are welcome.

  • whats the difference between a chain 1 space and a chain two space? is it always through the next space except on corners where its works in the same space?

  • A chain 1 space has one chain. A chain 2 space has two chains. The chain 1 spaces are on the flat side and the chain 2 are in the corner.

  • If i wanted to make a baby blanket out of this kind of stiching would that be okay?? What would you recommend? How many bundles of yarn would i need also?

  • This would make a very nice baby afghan. I would recommend 8-10 skeins for a baby afghan.

  • My mother taught me how to crochet when I was a kid. She had few hooks but I didn't use the big ones. I have always used the smaller ones I can't even remember what size it was. I don't have the hooks anymore. :( I know how to crochet a bit but I didn't know what the stitches were called. Good thing I have found this video! :D I wish I can crochet again...

  • With some practice, I am sure it will all come back to you.

  • Wow, your puff stitches are HUGE. Why do you pull up 9 loops instead of just 7? Just to create even more puffiness I guess, huh?

  • I like the look of fullness with 9 loops. You do not have to do 9 loops. You will need to make up the difference with extra chains if you make a less loopy puff.

  • is it ok if i use en muticolor yarn?? cause y other one's are like ehhhh tiny

  • You can use any color yarn that you would like to use.

  • ok but i mean like ehh

    starts with like

    blue-white-purple-white-green-white

    and stuff

  • O WoW how old is your needle it has the price on it 55 cents 1 needle is double that now.

  • I bought that crochet hook back in the early 1980's. It was the first aluminum hook I ever owned. Crochet hooks last a long time.

  • I wish I still had mine from when I was a lil girl i started at the age of 9 or 10 and I wish the kids now a days were more interested in it thank you so much for sharing your knowledge it is such a blessing

  • Teresa: After the last puff stitch in each

round you only chain 1 before joining it

to the first puff stitch to make the corner.

All other corners have a chain 2. Doesn't

this make that corner "tighter" than the

others? This is a beautiful square.

    Thank you.

  • I work a single crochet to join. The single crochet counts as my other chain. I do that so I end up in the corner. There is a link to the written instructions under "More Info" to the right of the video. I also have a symbol chart there.

  • If i was to make a blanket from this stitch would it be possible to change colors? And if so how would you do it? Thanks so much for these lessons you're great.

  • You would cut the yarn at the end of each round the then join a new color.

  • great as never seen this stitch befor

  • Thank you Teresa for sharing this with us.I have a question can i make a baby blanket with this stich? and how do i make the blanket big just keep adding?Thank you

  • Yes, you can just keep adding around.

  • Hi teresa, is wood crochet hook good..?

  • You can use wood. It is not something I have used myself much.

  • could you make a beanie with this stitch.

  • Yes, you can make a beanie with this stitch. I posted a hat last week with this stitch.

  • could you continue to do this stitch and bind it off at the ends to make a beanie with decreases.

  • You can continue around with the square and no more increases. It will shape in to a hat. Any of the crochet shapes will start to form sides when you stop increasing.

  • so it is basically chain puff stich chain puff stich etc.

  • Yes

  • Hi there, I have always wanted to know how to do this stitch and WOW, now I can do it - Thanks Very Much.

1 Question I am using different colours to make the squares BUT I have NO Idea how to stitch it together and what colour to do it in?

    Can You Please Help?

  • You are welcome. You can pick a color of your choice that you think will look good around all of the squares. You can whip stitch them together or crochet a round of single crochet around each square and slip stitch them to the opposite square.

  • thank youuuuuuuuuuu

  • I made a baby blanket with this stitch. I just made the squares in different colors and sewed them together.

  • Sounds like it will be very nice and colorful when you are finished.

  • Okay i did this pattern but it does not come out right. It comes out circle and streched out instead of square and bunched together

  • It may be that you are crocheting very tight or have missed some of the increase stitches.

  • I tried this pattern but I did something wrong and can't figure it out. The section where I started looks stretched. I took a photo of it but I can't attach it on youtube. I will try the pattern again while watching the video and if it comes out wrong again, I'll video tape it and send it to you.... BTW... I love this video. Thanks for sharing and teaching.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You are an amazing teacher.

  • Thank you very much for the comment. I appreciate it. :)

  • Teresa I just want to say PLEASE keep on teaching. I was trying to understand a pattern for a shawl in Wrapped in Crochet and had it not been for your clear and easy details regarding every single stitch I would have given up on it. Thank you so much. You have saved me some serious hours of aggravation. You are the best Teach!

  • Thank you very much, I appreciate the comment.

  • i learn't a lot! from you! because of you.you made me more advance thanks!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Hi Teresa...1st off you are awesome!!!! Thanks!!! 2 things...for this stitch can I just continue going and a puff to each side every new round to make a blanket...or does it have to be all seperate squares. Also...do you have any afghan tutorials...I've been searching, but only see squares. Thanks soooo much!!!

  • You can keep going but you may need to adjust by adding some extra chains so the sides do not curl up. That does seem to be a problem with this stitch.

  • I did it!! Thanks so much :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • By the way I'm using a size J crochet hook with 4 ply worsted weight yarn.

  • I'm having the hardest time pulling the loop through all nine loops. I always snag my hook on one of the loops. Is there something that I'm doing wrong??

  • It may be helpful to grab a hold of the bottom of all the loops, then pull the hook/loop through all of them. If the loops are made tighter, you may catch them more often.Try making them tall, looser and even by pulling the hook up horizontal each time you add a loop.

  • OK, I Had no clue what a puff stitch was called a puff stitch till you =).. I just found a pattern (in which I learned to read, cause of you) that's a puff stitch cap.. believe me I went right to your site.. You are truly gifted! this will be my 6 hat! I just made 2 of your men's caps for my dad for his Birthday (70th) He was soooo happy! Thank you

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Gracias desde España . muy bien explicado. Very well.

  • All your videos are great! I WOULDN'T be crocheting without 'em.

  • Thank you. :)

  • This is a great stitch for making a puffy clover/shamrock so it stands out against the other stitches, especially of a different color. I'm not sure what stitch to use for the stem, though...

  • You are the best!!

    Thank you so much!!!

    By the way Great video!!

  • Thank you. :)

  • just awondering wat are the granny squares used for?

  • Granny squares are used for making larger afghans. You can do a color theme of the same colors or you can do random granny's of different color. The random are my favorite granny square.

  • I have learned a lot from your fantastic tutorials. Thank You:) I was also wondering if you are able to make a puff stitch hat and if its more difficult than your beanie tutorials?

  • The puff is on my future list of projects.

  • Wow. This uses LOTS of yarn. Do the stitches stay "puffed" after blocking?

  • Yes, I do not block yarn.

  • GREAT VIDEO! I have been watching your videos for a long time and you make it so easy for me to learn how to crochet! Thank you so much! By the way, do you by any chance know how to make something like a mini purse?

  • That could be a future project to keep in mind.
