In the kingdom of music, there have been a lot of citizens, several knights, and a few dukes, barons and earls. And duchesses, baronesses and countesses. But only one King.
October 1, 1961, 50 years ago today: The same day that Roger Maris made it 61 in '61, RCA Records released "Can't Help Falling in Love."
George David Weiss wrote it -- another of his songs was also climbing the charts on that date, his rewriting of "Wimoweh," which had been a hit for Pete Seeger's Weavers. In Weiss' version, it was "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," by the Tokens.
Elvis will always be the greatest in my eyes and my heart. Elvis even though you are gone you still live in our heart. Rock the heavens like you did the earth. This song will be played at my wedding when I get married. Love you Elvis♥♥
I am an extremely harsh music critic, but despite the fact many may argue Elvis had no talent and never wrote worte any of his own tunes; for me he is and always will be the king.
@LilBitOfSomthingRed8 Elvis is the King of Rock & Roll, Michael Jackson is the King of Pop. They both have the title for different genres. If it wasnt for Elvis, many rock and roll artists wouldn't exist and if it wasn't for Michael Jackson, many r&b and pop artists wouldnt exist. It's not comparing them, they have both had respectable careers that have inspired millions.
@LilBitOfSomthingRed8 Elvis is, was and will continue to be The King. Unlike others, however, he was not the "self proclaimed" king - a title MJ appointed for himself. MJ was good. Elvis was great.

I love Elvis so much, but unfortunately for us Elvis fans, Michael Jackson is The King Of Music, we can't really argue with that. But Elvis is definitely second.
@theone225 who says that Elvis is the second this is a mistake: elvis is the best ELVIS IS THE KING .Who is this guy Michael Jackson ?.... now I remembered a black pervert who abused children
@erwinenrique "Who is this guy Michael Jackson" you say... Type in King of Pop in google. Type in King of Popular Music. Type in the Most famous person of all time. Type in The greatest entertainer of all time. He is the 8th wonder of the world. Elvis is a great musician. He is unique. But look at it this way , Elvis is better than any other musician apart from one. By the way, get your facts straight about Michael Jackson. Seriously.
@theone225 somebody that was Bob Dylan or John Lennon,it all depends on who you ask. But Elvis has been dead for more than 33 years, yet he is the singer who has sold more music (live or dead).
Michael Jackson will be as famous as Elvis is today in 2042?
" To realise that this would be EP's penultimate out going moment saddenens the heart for such a compassionate man who was adored by mllions of fans throughtout the globe woridwide Courtesy of Neville Bardoli Esq."
Hello Cincinnatikid, I have been a fan since 1974 when I was 7. I cannot disagree with your comment. I can add something though. Elvis was indeed a conduit but he was much more. He brought an original style to a well established sound. We can argue about the throne but never about his unique presentation which is a form of art. I do miss his art and style and yet I still respect the originators.
I guess I just don't understand the appeal. I'm not saying Elvis wasn't talented; he certainly was. But I don't understand how he can be called the "King" or even original.
When I hear an Elvis song, I don't hear Elvis; I hear Muddy Waters, Arthur Crudup, Leadbelly. Elvis was a conduit through which white people could safely access a well-established but ignored body of African-American music. Maybe that's how he was "original." Or maybe not original at all.
He was called the king because he had a string of hits all at once, and a dj nicknamed him that. Elvis's vocals sound nothing like muddy waters, he did have an original sound. His voice was and still is unmistakably Elvis, not saying he wasn't influenced by black artist because he was, but his voice was his own.
" I gotta say i sure am awe struct why Elvis is so endearing , infact the most charismatic performance artist ever - and what a way to finish a monumenta show" - " Thank you Lord for giving us this most gracious of men on loan why he sure with your Loving grace Lord help me throught the difficult period in my life with your consent " Neville Bardoli Esq
There's a story behind this performance. It was planned in the show for him to throw his belt into the crowd for the finale. Elvis took it one step further by throwing his cape. Just shows how he gave his all for his fane.
@20carrocks really none of it was planned, bill belwe the designer said he almost had a heart attack when he seen elvis throw them into the audience, im sure everyone around him did, but elvis was just being elvis like you said lol
elvis reached the top of the mountain peak this concert. he was at the peak of his powers when he sang american trilogy my lord everytime i hear it i get chills that are only comparable to his 68 comeback when the medley was transitioning to all shook up cuz at that moment you knew elvis was back

It is the Shaka Sign, which is commonly used in Hawaii as a greeting gesture. Among surfers, mostly in Florida, it means hang loose.

I will never forget that day. I was just a kid, but it was the first time I ever saw my dad cry and sad.
In Hawaii Elvis was at the top of his game, A great video,
He throws his cape into the audience. I always wondered what happened to the cape, if it was ripped to shreds by loving fans or not?
I saw it displayed in onepiece at Graceland, returned by the fan who caught it
