The thing with Matt Bellamy is that he's fluent in scales and keys, so even if he isn't playing the tabs from the recorded version, he will always be playing in the correct key and scale. So call it a mistake if you will, but it's still musically correct.
Jesus christ. What is it with Muse fans. Dare to suggest that occasionally they're not perfect and the OMG MUSE HAVE NEVER EVER MADE ANY MISTAKES!!!*)£%^!*&(!.
Let me restate for the record. I am a Muse obsessive, I own the entire back catelogue including the to LE EPs, the OOS Screw Driver, all the promos, EVERYTHING. Even the newer stuff even though it's crap.
MATT BELLAMY IN THE PAST OFTEN MADE MISTAKES.
Unlike the people below, and you. I have the ability to see them subjectively
thats a pretty silly thing to say, if hes playing bliss (c minor) and he missed an F and hit a G, its still 'musically correct' but its still a wrong note, your missing the point i tihnk.
no he forms his mouth kinda weird for this, it's just the angle of the camera that makes it look like lip sync. Few seconds after this you see him form the other angle
Yes, Mistakes. He does still improvise but to a much lesser extent as he used to. But yes, if you've like me to go through the 19 Muse gigs I've been to and go through all the mistakes he's made that were simply mistakes and not improvisation I will.
When I said "Or certainly was" I was referring to him becoming a lot cleaner, which is detrimental in my opinion. Matt Bellamy used to make quite a few mistakes when playing.
You're talking crap mate, I've been watching, listening and playing Muse songs for 11 years. I love Matt Bellamy, he's the reason I started playing guitar. Muse are my all time favourite band (Well, before they went rubbish anyway). How many times have you seen them? I can tell you everything about every guitar, effect, amp and bloody lead Bellamy has used and I guarantee you one thing, I've never heard anyone make as many mistakes live. They just happen to sound great.
yawn, if i thought you were right i wouldnt have started in the first palce, youve seen them loads, i have a bachelors degree in music performance. go figure...
What's that got to do with the price of milk? You're 19, I've been playing Muse songs since you were 10 my friend. And I can play them a lot better than you that's for sure ;).
price of milk? nothing to do with milk, although it has a lot to do to prove that i know what im talking about when it comes to musical performance, whereas you do not.
i think ur right in a way... bellamy has said that mistakes humanize records... but the other guy has a point too... muse are pretty awesome performers and idk if slash has done it but hammet has praised muse for having gr8 live performances...
it is ridiculous to think that matt hits an A5 over middle c... that is really high, and it actually sounds good when he does. opera-esque . its either g# or a but regardless, that is caarrraaaazzzzzzyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think they've been forced to do i think about 5 mimed performances, for each one, dom and chris swopped instruments, or they did various stuff with the songs :P One included them wearing tights on their heads whilst giving various hand signals to the camera :P
I don't understand. If you have the greatest band in Universe playing LIVE for you, and if it's maybe the best live performance act ever, then why the fuck would you need to get them into playback!!! Some assholes out there!
hi everybody!j'm 39 and i'm italian!!j play piano and guitar !!this is not a playback !!!! who could sing this song in that way??only matt !trust me j saw a lot of gigs in my life ..but there's no match with muse!! muse are the best band live ever!ciao
what makes you think this is playback? @ 2.53 he is keeping a distance to the microphone, which is perfectly normal when you are singing/screaming as loud as he is.. or else it would sound awful..
I also think so...ive got the studio version, and its different to this live concert. However Muse never played playback as I know...why should they? MAtts voice is perfect...until Ab he can sing whatever he wants to sing...gdamn i wish I had that voice...
they play to some tracks. like they play this song to a metronome, but i'm not sure if they have any tracks playing behind them. i think the bass hits at the beginning are tracks, because chris isn't playing them.
hysteria and stockholm syndrome have enormous amounts of tracks in them, for harmonies, and synths and stuff. but never lead vocals, as far as i know.
if you type into google 'muse gear' youll see every thing they use including the microphones... matt uses a speacial one because he likes singing from away from the microphone most of the time. Also to get your voice to sound that falesto sound that matt has you have to produce the sound like right in your throat or your nose almost so your mouth doesnt have to be open all the way.....
If you watch carefully his lips are vibrating, just only marginally open. He's pushing through the sound with his throat with some force - you can only do it with falsetto, not normal voice. I can do it but it doesn't sound anywhere *near* as good.
Matt was born with female vocal chords, him and dom got his throat x-rayed to find out why he can go so high, and that's why :P He also he sings very loudly from a stand still, he prefers to almost shout it with most songs, only going slightly quieter on slower songs :)
indeed. they had his vocals tested and it turned out he has vocals almost like a girls. giving him the edge on his high pitch singing. if you don't believe it then look for the interview. its on youtube.
umm i tihnk youll find its a G#5 (Ab5) thats his highest recorded note. check on musewiki. its the not he hits near the end of microcuts and at the very end of showbiz

yay!... matt made a mistake... 2.43 in his solo (he is human)
fenderz1 3 years ago
I wouldn't say it's a mistake, more of a moment of artistic choice where he decided to hold the wrong note a bit longer XD
Nosdormu 3 years ago 4
no way... it wasn't big but it was definately a mistake... you see him smile at the drummer when he does it... i stand by my comment
fenderz1 3 years ago
I was joking, no worries. He does make a lot of mistakes and sometimes plays sloppily, but he usually makes it fit into the song very well.

No, you are wrong. Matt doesn't make mistakes. Ever.
