@prayrex Valhalla is located in what the Norse considered their "heaven", so by that token you pretty much do. All myths and legends are relative in the end :)
i have no idea whats your language, but its simpel if you speak english. the book is from michael crichton. the passion is doktor.you can read everytime the inspiration at the last sides of this book.
@ModernNorseman Well I bet many of us are able to do what many vikings did since not all vikings were warriors? They were all norse, people from the north, also known as Scandinaviens? Meaning norway and sweden mainly? then you got denmark and iceland but they are not truely scandinaviens. some manage to even count finland in but that would be a but wrong?
So... vikings are travelers, warriors, trademen, craftsmen, fishermen, sailors and what else that you could think of back in the days?
Lo there do i see my father, lo there do i see my mother and my sisters and my brothers, Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning, Lo they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla... Where the brave may live forever.....32 people ain't going to Valhalla!!!
@FingerBang55 if you're going to be a bigot at least get your facts right, Antonio Banderas is Spanish. As for behaving in a pagan manner, I've been a practicing shaman for over 20 years and have never encountered such knee-jerk jingoism in that time. As for the attitudes toward different cultures and faiths represented in the film, I suggest you do some research beyond black metal bands and see how accurate the source material actually is.
@liveinsinfight2win He was playing an Arab ambassador, of all things, hehe. Maybe not the most obvious casting choice, but eh, it worked well enough, hehe.
@Laurannah101 While I agree the vikings were very brave, true badass's and were good warrior. They were not the only ones. As stated Spartans were renown soldiers back in there day. They may not have a extensive history of war like the Vikings but they have some of the most epic battles of all history. Others include some that still exist today like the Gurkhas who had impressed the British back than with there bravery and fighting skills as they do today. Among other ones as well.
@DemonicD3 Right me if I'm wrong! But the spartans soldiers you are talking about was way before there were any vikings :P like 500 BC! While vikings ran around 800-1100 AD! So if we talk about warriors and soldiers of all time, i'd say todays soldiers would line up spartans and vikings alike and just empty few clips on them. And yes that's fair as the warrior/soldiers fight from what kind of weapons they got.
@wizardaim So Spartans cannot be badass because they existed before Vikings? You do realize that makes no sense right? Also of course todays soldiers would kill them. They have guns idiot.
@DemonicD3 I never said spartans couldn't be badasses... I meant if we could compare spartans with vikings which had about 1000 years between them, we could as easly compare all warriors to the modern soldier. And modern soldiers are badasses cause they would be able to kill them all. And yes they got guns, but thats the weapons they are trained with. Also they are not far off in hand to hand combat as you'd might like to think. it's not the movies u know. and I am FAR from being an idiot. Idiot
(Reading Previous Posts) Amon Amarth has said multiple times that they Atheist. Now it is also known they drink with Asatru. @mittROMNEY666 1. Not all of them ;) 2. I've never seen any such disclaimer on their albums 3. It is Odin. And Oden. And Woten. And a bunch of other things depending on where you're from. 4.Yeah, I know it's a bit lengthy, was a risk I was willing to take.
@Evergrey06 I never heard Woten before and Im norse. But I think germans sometimes said woden and wotan and a few similar names, but woten... hmm, never heard of. Might be bit dodge to say the most correct name, but you could at least say the most used name which would been Oden, then Odin. Sweden was the country which hold to their religion the longest, and I am pretty sure they used Oden or Odin, and so did Norway and Island.
@wizardaim Norway did never realy submit to christianity..Odin did never leave. The real pagans did just hide it in those days..Our pagan roots are still alive in our hearts and soul to this very day.And our old songs and customs do show that also. And finnland was the last heathen place.. in the late 1700...i am told here. And you NIDINGS could just shut the f..up ..Vikings/north germanic people have guns today and have the same blood as our forefathers. And are still kicking ass.We are norsemen.
@SeigSel if you say so... though finland was swedish 1700, doubt they were heathens. actually.. i think sweden had their royal house in that part, and sweden had almost half of europe, at least the northern part. I guess it depends what you count as heathens. search for great northern war.. think that war started around 1700 and ended around 1721?
@taxi911 I could've used that quote on here some time ago when I had a guy sending me messages about being a stupid Christian who didn't know anything about Amon Amarth, hehe.
.....I've looked at this video twice now - where is this Spanish Conquistador armor? And besides, I'd like to point out that the Vikings were masters of trade, exploration, and combat - it was common place to take the armor from the dead enemy as trophies or scrap. I did notice the Murmillo helmet at 0:34, and the unidentifiable armor at 0:30, which looks hollywood to me.
Ok first of all..yeah even though some of the armor was inaccurate like the moorian helmet/spanish one made in 1300s even though this movie is based around late 900s ad...besides that fact vikings were raiders mostly and got whatever gear they can get their hands on..other than that a great norse movie i find
first of all, most couldnt afford armor. and second of all, this is probably around the dark ages. both facts lead to the conclusion that they used whatever they could. plus its a hollywood production.
@FullMetalJacket1989 i think that you will find the band are Norwegian and thats how they spell it... even wiki says there is more then one way to spell it
this is one of the worst movies iv ever seen, i couldn't even figure out the plot, or what they were even doing. antonio is a terrible actor, especially since he's trying to be an arab, while he's obviously spanish, and even has a blatant spanish accent.
@IZAPUXX It is about accepting responsibility for the helpless and hopeless, facing your worst fears, standing your ground against all odds. Living and dying with courage and honor, and belief in a Hereafter.
excellent song, accompanying an excellent clip from a truly awesome film, the books pretty good too! (Michael Crichton, Eaters of the Dead, and also Jurassic Park and the Pelican Brief amongst others.)
The spelling of Oden is correct because it's what the Norsemen (and the Scandinavians still today) calls him. Odin is the English version, perhaps they'd heard it wrong. Hmf.
And yes, real vikings did never have any "horns" on their helmets. There has never been any evidence of that. Horns on their helmets is so illogical. It would only be heavy and ungainly. I think it must have been a misunderstanding with their bonehorns they're drinking from. Everyone carried at least one.
I Denmark there are almost only plains and in Sweden there's a bit mixed but mostly forest but a bit mountains and some plains, but our Swedish Vikings didn't live in the mountains, there lived a nomad people the Sami people.
blinded by christian legends tonight sees battle initiations pagan gods are born once again followed by flames and blood eyes of fire conquer the village the men of fathe turn and look at the cross do the wanna bring you with them on their jurney or go back to their land instead? please note: this is not supposed to be a bash to christianity, rather a poem written by a Celt poet in latin that i had to translate and that fitted in the video, nothin else, so DON'T FUCK WITH IT!!!
It depends, vikings were rumored to be hired as the personal bodyguards of the sultan in what is now Turkey, Mayhap that is rumor, but it is archealogical fact that they made it that far..
@smigleyspooge Another one wears Spanish conquistador armor. One of the biggest complaints about this movie is its historical inaccuracy. One of those things you gotta learn to look passed if you want to enjoy it, hehe.
@Evergrey06 I always took it to try to portray how widely the vikings traveled in the world. Maybe the pieces of armor were taken as a prize, or given as a gift. From the reluctance of the one in the Spanish armor to remove his breastplate, it's obvious that the armor had some special meaning to him beyond mere protection. Amazing video Evergrey06
@erioc Yeah, I figure it's supposed to be like they raided it from elsewhere, the problem is some of that armor was either no longer in use or hadn't been used yet, as I recall. I don't mind, I enjoy the movie either way.
@erioc Many of the Rus and other norse served in the Varangian Guard as mercenaries, it's not unheard of that they would pick up exotic things, especially considering what resourceful traders they were
@Evergrey06 viking helm's (helm is the historically correct term for what they wore at that time) were not uniform in shape and the helm that you see was if the events in this movie were to have taken place inspired by yes roman gladiators... remember this film takes place after 632 AD which is 160 years after the fallof the roman empire. not to mention the romans were raided from time to time by those that were said to have come from the north.
@Evergrey06 there where are wrong ... vikings and Saxon used gear from them the killed arudn in the world at that time ! :) or what the have buyed arund
@Evergrey06 i didnt even notice the conquestador armor i enjoyed the movie none the less but that outrages that they have conquestador armor isnt that like 600 years ahead these vikings must be secret time travelers =) that took random armor
@Evergrey06 Looks more like Roman Gladiator armor, not Spanish conquistador. Possible since the Vikings raided also in the Meditarainian Sea and could have found some old Roman armor.
@Evergrey06 there is no historical inaccuracy, you have to watch the movie "the 13th warrior" to understand why theres a spanish person in this video.
@dimmu47 I have watched the movie, it's why I made the video afterall, hehe. The historical inaccuracy involves one of the norsemen wearing Spanish conquistador armor, which, as I understand it, wasn't around at the time. If you're referring to Antonio Banderas, he doesn't play a Spaniard in the movie.
@Evergrey06 If your referring to the helmet one of the vikings are wearing it looks like a gladiator helmet to me, so it would be at least 300 years old at the time he is useing it, i guess if it had been handed from father to son for generations and taken good care of it would be posible for him to use it around 700 AD.
@Evergrey06 What they are trying to show there is that the vikings were travelers, and they used to trade with people all around the world on their journeys, so it is completely right. You need to read more about them.
@Yalashaska I'm well aware of what they were trying to show, hehe, doesn't change that conquistador armor wouldn't have been around for another few hundred years.

@tykenminator Oden....

@laservader1
Actually, the correct name for scandinavian languages, where the entire Saga of the norse gods, and obviously where the vikings where from is; Odin.
Oden is some crap made up by someone who can differ between I and E when pronounced.
- Proud Norwegian

this is one of the worst movies iv ever seen, i couldn't even figure out the plot, or what they were even doing. antonio is a terrible actor, especially since he's trying to be an arab, while he's obviously spanish, and even has a blatant spanish accent.

Love the movie.

@AcrossTheOceanSky Oden, Odin is a derivative of the acncient germanic god Woden
madmunk1975 1 year ago
@madmunk1975 Perhaps, but they all still say Oden.

It depends, vikings were rumored to be hired as the personal bodyguards of the sultan in what is now Turkey, Mayhap that is rumor, but it is archealogical fact that they made it that far..
Darkrunner1975 1 year ago
why does a viking have a roman gladiotor helmet wtf?!
smigleyspooge 1 year ago
@smigleyspooge Another one wears Spanish conquistador armor. One of the biggest complaints about this movie is its historical inaccuracy. One of those things you gotta learn to look passed if you want to enjoy it, hehe.
Evergrey06 1 year ago 13
@Evergrey06 It's a terrific movie for all of that
RamBam3000 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 I always took it to try to portray how widely the vikings traveled in the world. Maybe the pieces of armor were taken as a prize, or given as a gift. From the reluctance of the one in the Spanish armor to remove his breastplate, it's obvious that the armor had some special meaning to him beyond mere protection. Amazing video Evergrey06
erioc 1 year ago 18
@erioc Yeah, I figure it's supposed to be like they raided it from elsewhere, the problem is some of that armor was either no longer in use or hadn't been used yet, as I recall. I don't mind, I enjoy the movie either way.

they travled everywere. they were the first to discover north america so id assume they were the masters of the sea and went everywere
malichi912 1 year ago
@erioc Many of the Rus and other norse served in the Varangian Guard as mercenaries, it's not unheard of that they would pick up exotic things, especially considering what resourceful traders they were
xbinarysunsetx 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 viking helm's (helm is the historically correct term for what they wore at that time) were not uniform in shape and the helm that you see was if the events in this movie were to have taken place inspired by yes roman gladiators... remember this film takes place after 632 AD which is 160 years after the fallof the roman empire. not to mention the romans were raided from time to time by those that were said to have come from the north.
flossyleech1 1 year ago 2
@flossyleech1 It's as I say, I enjoy the movie either way and don't mind it at all, though many people do.

It is a shame you have to explain it. Too many peoples do not follow history enough. And not that shit they show on The History Channel.

iumelen 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 i didnt even notice the conquestador armor i enjoyed the movie none the less but that outrages that they have conquestador armor isnt that like 600 years ahead these vikings must be secret time travelers =) that took random armor
CaptainPeenNoPants 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 well actually the vikings did venture as far south as constantanople so it is possible that they could have run across spaniards
21lax 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 Its actually not really inaccurate. What prevents the vikings to take armor from other warriors they kill in battle?
funnystarchild 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 Why do you guys care what they were low budget spawns creativity this movie is better than any Hollywood mainstream bullshit
wtfjaftw 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 Looks more like Roman Gladiator armor, not Spanish conquistador. Possible since the Vikings raided also in the Meditarainian Sea and could have found some old Roman armor.
ericpoperic 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 there is no historical inaccuracy, you have to watch the movie "the 13th warrior" to understand why theres a spanish person in this video.
dimmu47 1 year ago
@dimmu47 I have watched the movie, it's why I made the video afterall, hehe. The historical inaccuracy involves one of the norsemen wearing Spanish conquistador armor, which, as I understand it, wasn't around at the time. If you're referring to Antonio Banderas, he doesn't play a Spaniard in the movie.
Evergrey06 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 If your referring to the helmet one of the vikings are wearing it looks like a gladiator helmet to me, so it would be at least 300 years old at the time he is useing it, i guess if it had been handed from father to son for generations and taken good care of it would be posible for him to use it around 700 AD.
Homerp68 1 year ago
@Homerp68 Nah, it's not that one, there's a different guy wearing what resembles conquistador armor.
Evergrey06 1 year ago
@Evergrey06 What they are trying to show there is that the vikings were travelers, and they used to trade with people all around the world on their journeys, so it is completely right. You need to read more about them.
Yalashaska 1 year ago
@Yalashaska I'm well aware of what they were trying to show, hehe, doesn't change that conquistador armor wouldn't have been around for another few hundred years.
