I agree, she became a lot more complex, but also a lot more unlikeable. I understand that's what jennifer was going for originally, but as we'd all agree the dysfunction was endearing. In season 4, and particularly season 5, her character became meaner, vainer and more selfish. She embodied all these characteristics from the beginning, but with periods of respite. Sometimes she'd connect with Saffy on some level, or aspire to change. She no longer carries these motivations :[
