Spong's arguments don't hold much weight to me. As a believer, if you pick and choose what parts of God's word you want to listen to and believe, then you have reformed him in your own desired image. God is God, he does not conform to what feels comfortable to us, without him we wouldn't have permission to breathe. Even Nebuchadnezzar knew this and he was the king of Babylon. I have a feeling that Spong has never really met Jesus or the Holy Spirit.

Spong, throughout the entire debate, used words like "I believe", "The way I see it", and "I think". He never presented concrete evidence, only personal opinion. Craig, on the other hand, presented Evidence in a clear and conrete manner. Craig clearly won this debate.

Spong feels ashamed of the resurrection and he just wants people to like him for denying the supernatural. He's just trying to adjust Jesus to his life even if that means compromising the uniqueness of Christianity. I have no respect for this person. He;s pathetic

So many comments against Spong. Whilst I disagree with him, I can respect him. I think he is honestly following his conscience and he appears more charitable and kind than many fundamentalists. I would also hasten to add, that the kind of views Spong holds are directly caused by extreme right wing fundamentalist views about scripture and Christianity. Liberalism is spawned by conservative nonsense. there is a middle way but sadly the culture wars in the US Christianity always seem to polarize

on what bases can Spong called himself a christian ? He denies the resurrection, Paul said "if Christ had not risen from the dead we are fools for believing in him , we are a false witness and still in our sins" The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian belief and the foundation of the gospel.Dr Craig was to diplomatic and respectful to say so, so i will Spong cannot be a Christian based on the views he espouses

I suppose Spong also does not believe that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Spong has so many miracles to explain away. The multiplication of the bread and the fish. What about Eutychus, in Acts 20, whom fell asleep and fell out of the window and died and was raised from the dead. Why would that be written if it is not literal. It seems like it would be easier for Spong to just throw out the Bible than to keep trying to explain it away.

I do not appreciate Spong's views. I believe they are precisely the reason non-believers are unconvinced of Christianity, which is the opposite of of what Spong desired. If even a Christian doesnt believe in Christianity, how can a non-believer? Spong, in C.S. Lewis' words, follows a pretty bad version of Christianity on Water.

For me, Bishop Spong has always had a striking eloquence to him when he attempts to expound upon such a profound experience. Language indeed falls far short of being able to capture such a deeply transformative experience, but since our languages are our only tool of communicating one to another, there is much that is lost in translation. I've enjoyed many of Spong's books, and I very much appreciated this debate. Thank you for downloading it.

I can't freakin' stand the tone that Spong takes when he tries to scold Dr. Craig. Notice also that after he scolds Dr. Craig, Spong always tries to say Craig's argument didn't really matter, then he moves on to his next point as if he's proven something.
