It wasn't cancer. It was ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease. No one knew what was wrong for years. Doctors had no answers, until he was finally met the main ALS Dr. at the MDA ALS clinic at Methodist and was diagnosed in late '06.
OMG Nooo :((( I just read some of the comments and heard the bad news.... so unbelievably sad.. My condolences to all family, friends and to all of his fans. :(
I just found out tonight because I was trying to get in touch with you my brother, that my old friend Freddie has gone.He was one of my oldest and dearest musician friends. We had so many good gigs and good times together that I am so thankful for.I will never forget you my brother.I am so heartbroken that I could not be with you sooner in your time of need.I know you are playing with the Angel Band now my brother.Fly on Little Wing.I will miss you terribly.God Bless You Freddie.I love you bro.
whooops, meant to say moon and darrin, lol. keep on keepin freddie!! all of our blessings go to you, and your loving wife. i know how important it is to have family support in these times. but they call it "the 'practice' of medicine" for a reason!! folks like u, who rise above, and go beyond, baffle them!! keep it up brother!!
i met freddie many years ago when i was running in houston's music circles, from moon and brad. he blew me away, and now, he has blown me away again!! i live w disabilities, but when people tell me they admire me, its because they dont know freddie!!!
Bless you Freddie, you are the best. I saw you on the news tonight, you never gave up, and invented eye software that others can use for future generations with Lou Gherrics. Take care man, we all love you.

I've seen him play, slept at his house, and knew his son. I'm sorry for your loss Jessie, I never got to tell you that.
