  • is there any historical meaning to this song to inspire korean nationalism ? i am not korean so i need some help understanding this great song. i know that the port of busan was very modern because of japanese influence and occupation, and also became a refugee city. is there more?

  • @stupidsminkle I'm a Korean. This song has nothing to do wih Korean nationalism, none whatsoever. This a song that describes a particular person's longing for his family(meaning his parents and brothers and sisters) and lover whom he left at Busan.

  • @stupidsminkle

i know u do not mean it. but ur msg is rather insensitive at best and quite insulting

at worst to Koreans. please find out more facts about the history of korea and japan before making these remarks. thank you.

PS: of course this sort of musics could stir up all sorts of emotion, sadness, pain, love, longing of the past.never to return. Depending on who, how, when and where it is sung, it could strongly spring up nationalism as well. Guess a great music can do so much.

  • This might be more correct translation of the second verse. My apologies for any errors. Verse 2: In many long days of restless searching and longing, I dreamed of those familiar streets and of being there with you. How often in tears I would call out your name. Even the waves, always without words, tried to keep me from leaving you, crashing and wailing bitterly. I have come back, my beloved, to the Port of Busan.
  • Verse 2:

Longing to be together, I wandered these streets

many days, in bitter tears, calling out their names.

Was it a dream?-- those long, restless days?

Even the waves, always without words,

tried to keep you from leaving,

    crashing and wailing bitterly.

You have come back, my dearest ones,

    to the Port of Busan.

  • Verse 1: It's springtime in the Isle of Dohngbak and flowers are beginning to bloom. But in the Port of Busan, where my beloved siblings left me, there are only the echoes of the seagull's mournful cries. I call out tearfully to every messenger ship coming around Ohryuk Isle-- but, my beloved, you do not answer. Come back to Port Busan, my dearest ones.
  • Here is an English translation of the lyrics of the song for the benefit of non-Korean speaking listeners. This is somewhat loose translation not meant to be sung to the music, but intended to give an idea of what the song

is about. Dohngbak and Ohryuk Isles are famous landmarks

    around Port Busan.

  • This song is amazing! hits my core

  • yokosuka30 nim

  • Okay, sorry, I should have paid more attention to the screen titles. I did recognize the great Cho Yong Pil in the second song but failed to recognize him in the first one. I am used to see him in eye glasses.

  • Lovely heart felt song conveying very universal feelings. The singer indeed is doing justice to this great song. Pardon my ignorance but who is the singer?

    Thanks.

  • Ah, this song brings back so many childhood memories.

Thank you for uploading it, yokosuka30.

It's a shame Japan and Korea are not best of friends.

  • To: yokosuka30さん

  • This song is really touching and one of my most favorite Korean songs.

Come back to Busan Port :

Althogh spring has come here in Dongbaek Island,

    where camellia flowers are blooming,

All I find there in Busan Port,

which my brother depart, is that sea gulls are crying so sadly.

Every time I find a ferry boat over there, near Ohryukdo Rocks,

I also cry aloud in vain to see if my brother had got on the ferry.

(May my brother) Come back to Busan Port.

    I really miss my brother.

  • very nice. love this song.

but the guy translated ealiere is all screwed up.

try to post some better one.

    :)

  • i was born in pusan, korea now living in the states so this song has a special place in my heart. someday i would love to return to pusan!

  • Thank you for comment.

  • shukran

  • The beauty of analogue generations 7080-!

Thank you so much for posting its original Cho's.

  • The music of from 70 to 80's has a lot of good things.

  • Thanks for uploading this song! I love it! Still, seeing the images of todays Busan while listening to Cho Young Pils voice feels really weird. He's not singing about Haeundae-Beach, he's singing about his brother being brought to Japan as a forced laborer.

  • Thank you for comment.

We have various interpretation in this song.

Therefore I think the popularity to be high

  • yokosuka30, thank you for this song. Hearing this video i remember my parents and sakhalin island.

i think original version of Cho Young Pil is the most touching, because i heard it in childhood.

    Thanks, Ilya.
