There's a small but VERY informative article in this week's (Jan. 16-22, 2012) TV Guide magazine called "Sesame Street: Not For Sale". Check it out, folks, and you'll be in for quite a shock. <:-/
@andrewclunn Would you happen to know the name of the show on pbs that came on either before or after Newton's Apple. All I remember is that it was with a guy who I think wore this like skeletal body suit and he emphasized good health and fitness. That's all I can remember about that show. :-)
You're right @andrewclunn! Television needs to go back to the way it was back in the 80's. Instead of all this bullshyt like iCarly and crap like that, they need to bring back shows we grew up on. I miss Square One, Doug, Punky Brewster, Reading Rainbow, Small Wonder,The facts of Life, 227, GI Joe, Jem, He-Man, She-ra, the list goes on. And it takes me back too. And who could forget I Love Lucy. Yeah, that was before my time but who cares! It was still good, wholesome tv.
Square One Tv has taugt me all about math, Zoobilee Zoo, Shining Time Station has taugt me about being kind to others, Newton's Apple, and Bill Nye The Sciance Guy has taught me about sciance, Reading Rainbow, Once Upon A Time, Storytime, and Storylords has taugt me to read books, and also Where in the world is carmen sandiego has taught me about geography. I sure Miss Old PBS Shows like this one.
Ok, so I'm 30 today and I'm just realizing how weird it is that a show for kids has friggin' 9 30 year olds in the cast, and that was it. There was probably a lot of innuendo going on that I didn't even pick up on!
I wished that DVD Recorder was invented in the late 80s cos I would definitely record these show if I know it will end one day.Nowadays there are a lot of garbage children show just like Naruto which is nothing compared to Square One and I don't believed that trash like that "loud-mouth" uncouth creature is still showing and people are still watching it like a porn while world-class show like square one ended, I guess it is really an third-class Tom,Dick and Harry era now.
At :21 you can see something that *looks* like Mathman, but the characters look different. Does anyone know where this was from (perhaps from a pilot version of the show)?
It's really a tragedy that there are not enough educational shows like this or 3-2-1 Contact - yes I know they're outdated but the concept of making learning fun isn't for many. Instead we have all these "reality" shows that focused on doing anything/everything for money or status. PBS does still maintain SOME shows that are educational but they're value driven moreso than say mathematical skills. Last one I remember was the animated series CyberChase, nothing much since.
DAMN IM ACTUALLY TEARING UP I WOULD GET OFF THE SCHOOL BUS IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE RUN AS FAST AS I COULD UP THE DRIVE WAY IN THE HOUSE TO THE ROOM AND WHEN I TURNED ON THE T.V. IT WAS PERFECT TIMING I ALWAYS CAUGHT THE THEME SONG
Ever notice everything Square One had to do was connected to University of Michigan? Segments of Dirk Niblick and Mathnet? Mathman's helmet? A millions/billions/trillions segment inside Michigan Stadium? Not to mention the show's creators are both graduates of Big Blue itself?
For some reason, I remember watching this as a child. If it was in the late 80's/early 90's I probably did watch it being that I was born in '81 and watched PBS even when Ghostwriter came on in my teen years.
i still think it would be awesome if the cast of "Square One Tv" (that is if they're still around or even alive) would be the guest hosts of wwe raw?.
I can't believe you guys got me again. I just saw the opening theme song to 3, 2, 1 Contact and now Square One! This was like Saturday Night Live for nerds like us! What up to all the MathNet Agents!
Gosh!I remember watching this! Back when TV was worth watching and the internet didn't rot my brain...Sigh, can the kids of today please have awesome TV shows? It must suck to come home from school and watch endless judge shows, maury, tyra and whatever crap is on!
How can I buy tv series like these? I want to buy this, 321 contact, bill nye, etc. They dont have things like this on TV anymore.. anyone know where I should look?
321 Contact Square One TV Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego Sesame Street (Before this Elmo crap) Bill Nye The Science Guy Reading Rainbow The Electric Company The Magic School Bus Cyberchase Mr. Wizard School House Rock Arthur Doug Word Girl If everyone just watched these shows as a kid, then the world would be a smarter better place.
@andrewclunn Amen!!!! And bring back more of the eighties shows like The Facts of Life, Small Wonder, Punky Brewster, etc. These take me back to childhood when I was young and innocent and had no responsibilities.
@andrewclunn I watched this after school back in 1986/87. Loved it. Miss the show. I grew up with lots of 80's programs. Miss them too. Loved the 1970's shows. I didn't watch shows back in the 90's or 2000's because television was becoming boring and uninteresting. I loved PBS back in the 1980's. Grew up with Sesame Street,Villa Alegre, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, etc. Wonderful and there was much better support. Now Congress wants to cut off PBS. .
@andrewclunn yes it would be, don't forget Mr Rogers he was great too he also taught us a'lot, i even watched video music box during the late 80's/90's
"MathMan" was the shit! It was this version of Pacman....that tornado popping up when Mathman ran across a math problem used to scare the shit outta me tho....
Man, whatever happened to really great TV like this? In the 80's & 90's, even the EDUCATIONAL channel kicked ass with a slew of top-notch, quality-driven programs. Whether it was animated or live-action, there was a thing called VARIETY! Nowadays, you can't tell a Drake and Josh apart from a Zeke and Luther. you did not learn math when watching. This show did teach you math thru music videos, and games and the final segment of the show called Mathnet. So you did not learn math I learned and watched it everyday what was you doing when it was on.
me too but I had no idea what they were talking about in the show since I was 3. I only remember theme song and Mathnet which I chould not read back then. they should bring this show back on!
The music reminds me of SNL.

you did not learn math when watching. This show did teach you math thru music videos, and games and the final segment of the show called Mathnet. So you did not learn math I learned and watched it everyday what was you doing when it was on.
