@goborisgo they limit it because the tires r rated for like 159mph.. it would be more expensive if they removed the limiter.. then u need 186mph tires.. and usually those who have the 155mph models rn't racing enthusiast.. so their customer will die and they will lose sales.. with the 200mph models those who r really wealthy r usually racing enthusiast so speeds greater than 155mph.. shouldn't be a problem
@FloNWfan21 this video is showing the factory 155mph governor kicking in and not allowing you to go any faster. If removed I do believe even bone stock this car could hit redline in top 6th gear, Dunno what speed that would be exactly probably 165-170, just a wild guess.
I drove that fast in my 323i 150 mph( Dinan) in 2000. Drove 145mph in the 2007 335i and 155 in the 2010 M3 E90. I only did it for a few seconds and slowed down so I don't go to jail or have some one call 911 on me. But I was just thinking about the new Bugatti Veyron doing 268mph. To do that you would have to take Xanax or Valium to calm down so your adrenaline doesn't make your heart go over 180 beats per minute. 155 is really fast as it is, I just can't imagine what balls it take to do 268 !!!
You probably didn't even feel it! BMW is a good car and body roll is excellently maintained! You can do 100mph and it feels like 60mph. This probably felt like 90mph!
So, at the second highest gear as it was accelerating to 141 mph, it was getting 6 mpg. Then, when the tranny changed to the highest gear after going faster than 141 mph, the gas mileage improved to 13 mpg. Therefore, just because you travel faster doesn't always mean you're wasting gas/hurting the environment, it's the switching gears and RPM that decide. That is why there can be proof putting a speed limit on the German autobahn may not have the improved desired environmental effects.
@fixthatmotordotcom I forgot to factor that in but do you know that it's the British gallon? I ask because BMW has the European Delivery Program for Americans, too, and they can drive them on the autobahn.
@unknownunknowns This car can easily do 25-30 mpg when it's driven economical between 70-80 mph with cruise control. Driving 160 mph is always a waste of gas and even a safety risk when americans come here and drive with 160 mph although they don't have any driving practice at high speeds.
But sometimes when the lanes are vacant I do it too and it's pretty fun :)
Wow it's gliding like an airplane. I had a 08' 335i coupe space metallic gray and have a 2011 335i coupe on order set to arrive in April. Looking forward to the thrill again. Until then In a BMW Loaner car.
@goborisgo that's not too bad considering the load on it. My GTO gets in the 4-6 range during WOT and it'll barely out run the my 335 until faster speeds.
He did ED (eurpoean delivery) which means you get the US car in Germany and get to play with it then they ship it to you. That's why it has a MPH instead of a KPH gauge.
@nepenthean They just need to change some driving rules. Make them similar to the Autobahn. But you'll never see that happen. Don't understand why we love buying 500 HP cars in the US, but don't change the laws to use that power on the public highways.
@Plague60 Because on the Autobahn you will get a ticket if you don't change lanes. And you can't pass on the the right, only far left lane. In the US you can pass on any lane.
But then, usually 10 mph over the limit will get you a ticket.
@viggoM35 Yup, that's right. They actually enforce their left lane hogging traffic laws, unlike the US. For some reason the people in the US think the left lane is the "Fast lane" not the passing lane and tend to think they have the right to be in the left lane if they are going the speed limit. Sad but true.
@Plague60 ...and they'll argue this point to their demise. Just a simple lane change would save all the grief. I generally drive 5 mph over the limit if someone wants to go faster I change to the number 2 lane then go back once the faster cars have past. If I see someone fast approaching in my rear view I change lanes also. Too many self righteous A holes out there that think they own the #1 lane if they're going the posted limit. Even the highway patrol will tell you the same thing.
Totally agree, it's like in u.s people get jealous if your car is fast and want to go infront of you, even though they are going the same speed as people in the right lane.
@Plague60 I know. It's so frustrating when they do that. They see u driving fast and want to jump in front of u. WTF. 335i owner and like my adult toy!
i love how after a few seconds of the car being at top speed it bumps the rpm's down to like 5,250. that just shows how much more speed the engine is capable of handling
How would it be broken in already? No it does not. I have purchased 3 new BMW's and have always broken them in. Infact they tell you to try and not go past 4k rpms for the first 1500 miles then you go back in for service.
"keep her below 4000" method, always safe bet!!! Here in Germany same thing, and you can take a look around they will last forever if you treat it properly!
Do you mean urban instead of rural? Looks like you had a blast. I noticed a slower car move to the right to get out of your way - what a novel concept!
Yes Sorry. I meant to say to stay away from Urban but stay in rural. And yes most of them move out of your way, although you still need to be careful.

On highway trips going 500 miles or so I get about 22 MPG, and that's driving normally with no fuel economy in mind.
during normal everyday driving I get around 17 MPG.
