Hardstyle has a reverse bass which is when you take a bassline and reverse it (duh). I would recommend creating a bass then an rv7000, and use the reverse setting with a 2/16 effect timing. I could make a video on how to do it.

My bassdrum gets heavily flanged! It's most definately the LFO to Filter Freq setting, it's gone if I clear that. But the bass doesn't sound as nice if I do that obviously. Anything to do about the flanging?

I'm really into Dave's videos, but I have to admit that this one didn't do the trick for me. I'm not an expert on hardstyle, but I'm pretty sure that the whole LFO thingamagick just messes things up... I'd go with the compression alone, and I would route the compressor into the drum-machines auxilliary channel, so you gain more control over the balance between the kick and the bass. This way you don't have to route a separate channel for the kick signal that drives the bass...

ableton is really designed for live performances, although production is possible with it, its not the ideal DAW

reason is descent, but its lack for VST support puts it very low on the DAW of choice

Your on an Apple... use LOGIC.. its the best DAW availible for an apple.

If you want better cross platform compatibility use cubase or nuendo (higher end cubase)

and if you are creating hardstyle make sure you get the sylenth1 VST...

@xx13w7xx personally i prefer ableton for all around production, because it works with reason in rewire, has plenty of users doing tutorials and eliminates the often easily recognisable sound from reason, the vst capabilities are good, a good range of instruments built in, i haven't tried logic, but have heard it is good :)

the so called hardstyle u listen to today has melodies and a different type of bass and drum but this is more of an original harstyle bass as they where in the beginning of hardstyle ( the real hardstyle imo) and in the beginnning the melodies where not that important.

i was stuck on that a couple years ago haha long story short use reason. it's really nice.

I find it better to use a distorted hardcore kick rather than the synth, and wire the redrum channel into the sidechain input on the compressor, but have it so the drum isnt wired into the mixer at all, this way, the drum can never be heard, and you can use other kik drums for the track meaning any 1/8 drum roll or 1/16th rolls wont affect the sidechained bass, leaving you much more freedom to create drum work and the bass does what it`s meant to do. But for hardstyle bass, use hardcore kiks

Go to Store. Buy Access Virus TI2... and start programming... ill give u a hint on hardstyle bass..

-1 octave SQ detuned 2 voices no stereo, 0 octave sine 1 voice. add pitch modulation evelope... assign to mixer track and add distortion module. user slight tube and lots of mech dist. play around with fatbandpass filters, and lfos on distube amount...

THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TECHNIQUE... thats why all the basses sound different.
