I still have the XT. Still love it. Got the jeep cos we have had a kid, the jeep allows me to do all that fun stuff, just smoother and easier ( gotta keep the better half happy ). Re the Turbo, what you have got setup is ideal. The turbos tend to heat up alot more, and have higher gearing, (non dual range box). I ended up putting a second little radiator and a dual box for the better gearing. That helped with the heat in the sand. Also adding the a/t tyres on 16" rims made a massive difference.
@SuperJuleslee Ok, still use the Foz much offroad or mainly the Jeep now? I can understand the high gearing being an issue? Burn your clutch much? I am yet to overheat my 2.0l N/A even while powering on the dunes on a 45degree day :D I love having the lo range, biggest issue though being power, she seems to loose revs too easily. Thats where a turbo or even more powerful motor would come in handy. Yeah A/T tyres do make a huge difference.
Just bought the go pro. Yet to use but what a great little camera. Great to see another forester having fun in the sand. We did some very similar terrain in and around robe, sa. XT turbo fos - AT's LR gearbox.
@SuperJuleslee Thanks, yeah I wouldn't mind a go pro camera oneday. Great little cars, pretty capable once setup as mine is slowly getting. I was quite a fan of your XT. Have you sold it? I would love a turbo but being a young rev head already its probably better I stick to the 2.0l Foz.
@mando1337 H/T bald stock size Bridgestone Duelers. Not bad for a highway tyres but nothing compared to a A/T tyre. More videos to come, just got back from a huge trip.
@BandB1111111 I have a honda quad bike and I think that would be the only thing vehicle wise that could do it. Only a quad bike or motor bike. I will have to post up some more modern videos of my car in action.
that really soft sand at 2:22 is crazy...I thought you'd be stuck for sure. I really doubt you could have climbed that...can't image much of any vehicle could. I'm still finding out what my 2011 Forrester can do. nice footage!
@taza11659 Good job on that last hill, too! I like the way you adjusted your momentum without hitting the hill so hard you do damage. That's what I'm working on here in Florida. I can float over deep soft sand here, as long as it's mostly flat...but fighting gravity plus soft sand is tough. Do you remember what your tire PSI was that day?
@BandB1111111 Yeah I had 20psi in the Highway tyres that were on her. Now when I go sand or beach driving I put them down to 14-15 and it helps even more (I have Yokohama Geolander AT-S tyres that are slightly wider than stock size). I have had to once put them down to 8 and that was fine in a straight line to get through some soft beach sand but usually 15 is good enough. Post some videos of your car when you get a chance mate.... im keen to see what she can do!
@ElFreddoAndRubyScoo When I have a spare few hundred bucks. I really love the sound of the boxer low end torque :P I was thinking of just removing the muffler to make her abit louder :D haha
@zabix5 Cheers mate, things never looks as good on video as in real life. The Forester now has bigger All-Terrain tyres and 2" full body lift with heavy duty springs. Now she goes better on the beach than any real 4WD due her being so light and the extra clearance. Power isnt an issue much either with these bigger tyres when deflated to 15psi. I havent got any vids up with my lift and tyres on the sand though. Will get around to making some.
@NEardood2 Cool. Yeah I love my forester, I wouldnt trade it for anything. Except maybe a newer one. haha. in the next few week im getting a spring lift combine with 1inch body lift and some big BFG A/T tires. Im still running the same highway tires at the present time but they are completely bald :P I am alot more experienced since this too which has helped me get may places :D Oh and just remember to air down your tires. might post some more vids. Do you have any videos of your forester?
(this is NEardood2 i had to make a new account cause i forgot the password for my old one thanks to the new google account BS. Anyway i found my old password). No i don't have any vids of my car yet, but i'll get some good tyres for it (have anything in mind?, i was thinking some sort of AT's) and then take it for a spinn offroad.
@neardood1 Are you looking for standard size tires or bigger ones? For standard size I would get the Bridgestone Dueler 694 A/T. very good and only about $150 each. The Geolander AT-S is quite good too but abit more expensive and comes in many sizes for our steel 15inch rims. Feel free to ask anymore questions.
240k on my US 2001 forester. barely broken in;) had it since 54 miles when i bought it in 2000

1978Prime 1 year ago
@1978Prime Geraldton, Southgates beach. A better place only an hour away from that is Lucky Bay with over 30km of dunes and beach.
