"And I wonder is it true...do you feel the same way too..." those harmonies and words have haunted me and stuck with me since I heard it first when the album came out in the Sixties. It's like the dark version of The Beatles "If I Fell." Used to listen to it on snowy nights and stare out the window at the streetlights. Hopeless romantic even as a kid I guess. Wonderful record.
song still has that melody and feel that stays with you once you hear it, I'd like tohave been a fly on the wall and seen how clark and mcguinn put it ogether just the two of them around a table...gene sang such a strong clean melody.......wonder if the music was how he had envisioned it at the time....or was it more of a collaboration......
Was in "the crotch" in '67 and my girl dumped me. I remember thinking if she ever thought about the soldier she fucked up back then. It's been 43 years and it's still hard being here without you. Great song though...
Wish these guys had been able to keep it together for another ten years or so, but inner turmoil was too intense. Their contribution to the genre is unmistakable and I don't believe there is a better constructed album than their original effort, Mr Tamourine Man. Gene Clark died a vastly unappreciated writer, singer and man, except for fans of the Byrds.
This is like the alter ego version....the dark version...of The Beatles "If I Fell"...I've always loved this song. Not just great harmonies, but such great chord progressions on the entire Tambourine album. Wonderful stuff, thanks for posting.
Easily one of the best songs of the 1960's. Definitely a favorite of mine.

Gene Clark was the SOUL of the original Byrds. Those angelic vocal harmonies on songs like this STILL resonate some 4 decades later.

My favorite Byrds song. Love that 3 part Harmony and the jangly strummin guitars. They were one of the best bands ever.

Byrds were a rare combo of voices that could make 2 part harmony sound like 3 part plus...

Any fan of a musical act that is current who thinks their good should listen to this as a reference to what a great song really sounds like.

One more reason to love Gene Clark. Great song with some of the coolest harmonies of that era. Classic Byrds tune.

This sounds so similar to My world is empty without you... Same year. Both are great, bu I think this one is better.
