Wait are you saying you can add patches from a software synth like say Moog,Korg etc.? And even sample sounds like a piano or guitar, btw can you do a pitch wheel on that keyboard? Or is it just a mod wheel?
I know i could get slaughtered on here for saying this, but I'm happy enough with my Roland SH-201, it may not be perfect, but it's got this rough-quality to the sound which really gives it character and punch
@sacredgeometry I just take the synth on it's own merits, I recon the 201 would've received much warmer reception if it was it's own standalone product and not just put in the SH series of synths.
@SYN7HOR Apples kinda tastes like shit compared to oranges too ;) Seriously though, I wouldn't mind having both to play with. It would be an awesome combo.
@SYN7HOR I have both, I suggest importing your own WAV files. That made all the difference for me, I actually thought about sell my Wave until I started doing this. If you don't want to make your own keymaps then download some of the sets from Clavia. The P5, JX and VP-330 WAVs are quite excellent.
@SYN7HOR So you are comparing a real analog synth with a virtual analogue one? So we should have a look on the function side where the Nord shits all over the PEK :P
For 400 you can pick up an akai s6000, another 600 for a sherman filter bank, or 80ish a piece for a doepfer filter based on a wasp or ms20 or a 303 etc... and for that you can sound as shit as this, or if you prefer you can mash shit up a bit.. thats my consumer advive...... what happened to the short lived nord lead 3?
Depends what you call 'proper'. It sends midi cc messages, so if your soft synth has 'midi learn' - it works. From experience though, I could never get a controller to work as well as a designated hardware console. I hear m-audio axiom pro maps automatically, but then again....
This is a very 'clean' sounding performance synth. Depending on your point of view, 'clean' could be seen as 'professional' or just plain sterile. It has the best sound of any of my synths, but if you are into synthesising weird sounds, you might try a Blofeld, which is also a great synth, but not a performance synth. One thing you can be assured of is that the Nord synths are extremely polished; you will never hear a glitch; probably why they took the arpeggiator out of this one.
@AORNOfficial That question doesn't make sense.. If you mean that you can sample the output from Reason, then yes, of course. If you somehow think that you could transfer the Thor to a synth.. then I guess you missed a couple of pages in the manual.
more fun for me was trying to figure out what was being envisioned when all this was being played... a midnight disco dance with girls leaping at the keyboardist? lol don't we all wish...
I think nord wave users need to take more drugs. theres not enough examples of nords making fucked up sounds. all i can find is regular boring demonstrations. just fucking mash sound into an unrecognisable mess please.
@ubersponge yeah, all the demos i've heard on youtube are really really lame and boring. just not creative. they just make the same sounds people have made w/synths for the last 30 years. what's the point of all the sampling and "wave" ability if you are just gonna make a cheesy "funky clav" patch??? yawn.
@ubersponge: is the synth really that bad? or is it just the lack of creativity of those users? i really thought of buying a nord wave, cos all i´ve got so far is an m-audio midi/audio-in keyboard combined with fl studio and its soft synths and samplers....
No shit. I'm looking for a new synth, but it's impossible to find out if it actually sounds awesome. People always play some lame and boring 80's or 90's shit.
@ubersponge yeah you shoulda been the one who came up with the text displayed in this video. they got,"use the synths built in effects,. envelopes and filters to radicly change the sounds" what kinda shit is that to say about a nord. go radicly change sounds with some piece of shit u can pick up at walmart. i ll stay here and MASH MASH MASH!
@happytyler41892 Unfortunately, psytrance probably will be around forever. Nothing interesting has happened in psytrance for about 15 years. Still the same linear arrangements. The same climaxes. The same drum patterns, Layers of synth sounds playing simultaneously over one another. Essentially psytrance is about as interesting as drum'n'bass - another genre which sounded amazing about 15 years ago. Both I used to love.
hello....i'm wondering how long it takes to nord wave to load samples that you store in with nord editor when switching from a preset to another preset when you are playing......i dont now if i made my self understood...could you help....?
unlike the nl2x the nord has effects, it also has the ability to play sampled instruments, digital waveforms and FM synthesis. But it also costs twice as much...
I was thinking of getting a Mini Korg or a Nord Modulator G2. Does this Nord have the smae functions plus some more than the Nord Modular G2? Or is the Mini Korg the way to go. Please someone respond
It's actually a synth patch from Reason's newest synth, Thor. Technically, it's just a vocoded sample loaded in as a patch. I do not know if the Wave has the capability to vocode though...
Clavia/Nord sure know a thing or two hundred about keyboards - anything they come up with in recent years seems to be top notch and spot on.
I bought the C1 organ a couple of years ago and I'm still convinced it's the best Hammond emulator out there. Recently picked up a Nord Stage EX 76 which is beautiful.

Well, actually there is nothing new BUT the shape. You can do that with Logic Pro and Main Stage software with a 12" Powerbook connected to a midi controller and it will cost you less than $1000.
But still is fun to do it that way. I would love to buy that keyboard and do it THAT way, the problem is that I have 9 keyboards already :s including 3 samplers.
