  • It was fantastic! Did you improv?

  • metallica ruined this song.... :/

  • I love Metallica, no doubt, every song basically, but I do believe on this certain song Bob Seger was better,

  • My god the tone of this thing!

  • your have tabs?? help me

  • You are a bass master!!!

  • man this video was extremely well done....and it still has 6 dislikes? Damn trolls....Even I know my limits on trolling -.-

  • If anyone wants a bass order KEN LAWRENCE else forget it am i right @GBagley !!!

    best basses of the world...........

  • @linkinmaa Or Sheldon Dingwall basses ;)

  • See! I'm not the only one, If there is a song that is played with pick, I feel like its better with a pick, its okay to switch around hahaha sorry i just had to say it

  • This is very Good^^

  • Nice work one of the coolest songs ever made,xo

  • What kind of strings do you use?

  • @Orangemongoose1 - They're Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds. My favorite strings!

  • @GBagley I don't know why it took me so long to reply, but you have no idea how much your videos have influenced my playing. You're the one who inspired me to stop using tabs and start playing by ear. Keep making awesome videos!

P.S. I just got the strings in the mail today :)

  • could you please cover my friend of misery

  • your bass sounds awesome, how much it cost? cant find it in online stores

  • It's ironic that Jason plays with his fingers on the official video LOL

  • damn thats a sweet bass

  • Loving those strings man XD

  • badbass song #FTW

  • hey guy, nice playing! where did you buy the KL bass? Is there any website to do it? thanks a lot! regards

  • @Salida53Bassist - Look around online. You either have to order a new one from Ken Lawrence (and wait a good long time for it to be built), or get lucky finding a used one online.

  • You must be a guitarist originally. Not too many bass players play with a pick.

  • @KEVINKITCHENAGENCY watch his other videos dude

  • @conradsz makes you want to cut your fingers off ha hope this dude is in a band, that would be a waste of talent dont see bands where the bass follows the lead nearly note for note on solos

  • @KEVINKITCHENAGENCY plenty bassists have played pick.from lemmy,to jason newsted,dave ellefson,ian hill,chris squire,paul mccartny,to roger waters.picks doesnt necessarily mean ur a guitarist,it just means u prefer the sound of a pick.

  • @KEVINKITCHENAGENCY - Bassist originally, have never been a guitarist. I typically play with fingers, but sometimes a pick suits the song better. Plenty of bassists play with picks.

  • @GBagley

Hey man, you haven't been playing any other instrument but bass?

If so i admire you very much! There are some who play a "hardcore" classical musical instrument (piano-violin-classical_guitar etc.) for many years and pick up bass because "It's very easy and anyone can play it" and eventually this has pretty much made (to those who don't know the nature of bass) the notion that bass exists just to assist the other instruments...

  • @Pchychopathetic - Not really, I'm primarily a bass player, always have been. I played some other instruments in concert band throughout middle/highschool, but nothing serious. I do have aspirations of learning piano someday though...

  • will you make a present for me ?

    the bass behind you :)

  • Awesome cover!

  • ok kids, if your gonna play with a pick, do it like this

  • The best musician i saw on YT yet...(not including real authors and stuff)xD

  • woah your using a pick! :O

  • That's a nice maple fret board you got there.

  • Great playing, and that bass is incredibly beautiful, what kind is it ?

  • @Annonymus121 - It was made by Ken Lawrence.

  • @GBagley Its a nice one!

  • @TheDirector1804 Yeah, and find dozens of tabs that are poorly written and inaccurate? I think I'll pass on that, dipshit. I just came here to ask GBagley a question, not to get some stupid response from some know-it-all.

  • nice wood you have there...

  • the intro isnt that hard is it? but the rest is awesome. and what did that bass cost you?? i love it and i maybe wanna buy one myself one day.

  • @iceblaze1907 - They're not cheap! Look up Ken Lawrence basses.

  • @Acoustica1995 - It's a Ken Lawrence bass.

  • fantastik sound. what amp do you use;;; And how do you make this sound;;

  • @panoscorfiot - I'm not using an amp, I record plugged in direct (to an MBox2).

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent sound!!

  • Now THAT is sustain.

  • hey guy you're great at playing bass!! great touch really... :) MetallicA rules!!!!!!

    greetings from italy!!

  • nice cover dude,i'd like to see u do more of jason's songs wit metallica.ur picking sounds cool as hell \m/

  • dude use your fingers! but good cover

  • @Metaldiabolic

    why???

maybe hes trynna pay homage to jason

  • @Metaldiabolic so what he didn't use his fingers?is there like a law for playing bass?

  • Dude where'd you get the tab to this masterpiece? I've been dying to learn this on bass!

  • @idrinkpudding google

  • @idrinkpudding I really dont think he uses tabs dude

  • @idrinkpudding - I don't use tabs.

  • @GBagley Oh ok. I figured because you nailed this song you must of gotten a 100% accurate tab, but in any case this is the best cover I've heard.

  • @idrinkpudding This song is really easy on bass. Just listen to it a few times. If you can sing along to the notes, you can play it.

  • Very good ;)

  • metallica = selling out

  • very nice!!!

  • You have amazing. I also appreciate your use of chords, it all fits really well. Great Cover! :D

  • damn dude you're definately tied with Johno1919 keep it up

  • Can you please record more Metallica songs? You are amazing.

  • those little fills are beastly

  • Is this regular tuning?

  • It's down a half step (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb)

  • Awesome cover. U should do astronomy next

  • Is this Jason playing this? :D

  • Jason played it with Metallica, yeah.

  • Jason is a bitch

  • @jotunrisinn

u sound like a bitch trynna troll this vid.nobody cares for ur failed attempt at trolling, ppl are actually payin attention to the music.go be an ass elsewhere u pathetic waste of sperm

  • nice playin' love ya bass :D

  • 5 stars. Bravo dude.

    Very gnarly.

I had a five string Ibanez bass

But my friend took it, left me his fender bass and I have no fucking clue where he went. I am gonna punch him in the junk if I see him again though....I miss my Bass....

  • @SixKindsOfDead what an idiot

u payed for it, so therefore it should be yours....

  • Yeah, I payed for it but my friend took it while I was gone. Went into my house and just took it....the bastard. I recently found out that the reason he took it was because he broke it and thats why he left me his. He said he tried to get it fixed...but I don't believe him.

  • @SixKindsOfDead

    You should kick his ass.

  • Been thinking about it.

  • i think you are Jason Newsted's, my gash that's nuts, vary nice job!!!

  • I really like it when I see persons that actually don´t have any problem with playing with a pick. And I don´t say that just because Jason is my biggest influence, but perconally I just like that clipping, it gives it an unique sound wich is good for both song like this and metal songs like Fuel and Of Wold and Man.

  • Jason is better than Cliff at bass. Cliff is just the better composer and songwriter.

  • @ToaJoe ARE YOU ON DRUGS OR ARE YOU JUST DUMB

  • your bass playing is really relaxing to listen to

  • better then any fender bass!!!

  • Man, you make look effortless, great playing :)

And nice bass, thx for posting!

  • beautiful bass....and playing too...

  • I just love your tone!

  • It sounds really cool. but I prefer to see bass players using fingers. BASS - is a heart of music

  • check few other videos of him hes probably the best finger player i ve seen around and he says its a tribute to jason newsted and jason plays with a pick

  • Ken Lawrence bass :)

  • Really well done mate!, what kind of bass is it?

  • Thanks. It's a Ken Lawrence bass.

  • @GBagley custom right ?

  • @Jespertheshort1 - Yes. Ken Lawrence custom.

  • @GBagley its an awesome bass which is being played by an even greater bassist :), Im a bassist my self, and you inspire me quiet a lot, but then again when im playing on my old newbish bass, and I like compare it to yours mine seems kinda worthless, though I think im getting a new one, I really need to. since the pickups har getting a way to grumphy like sound xD

  • TASTY!

  • u should of auditioned to be metallicas bassist

  • I'm like, half their age...literally ;)

  • so? if they split u coulda kept it going! lol

  • seriously a orgasm everytime lmao

  • They all contributed to changing history :)

  • real nice fuckin tone.. sounds clean as shit on my subwoofer.. ok i guess shits not very clean.. but ... yea... never liked this song .. a whole lot but.. great job covering it

  • very nice tone...nice bass and strings

  • if your a good bassist then you'll be versitile enough to be able to play both styles, why would anybody hate using a pick unless they cant do it themselves..what type of pickups do you use?? i love the tone!

  • pig? you mean pic right? if you're going to try insult something make sure you spell it correctly.

  • It's actually pick, but I respect you for the statement. Every technique has it's appropriate application.

  • by the way, sorry for stupid post, but what tuning is this, becouse mine sounds a bit different

  • It's down a half-step. In Eb.

  • still, playing with a PICK sounds better to me.

  • how come u use a pick?

  • Why would I not?

  • im not saying its a bad thing but ive seen majority of bassists play with fingers but if ur way works than go with it

  • what about mark king, the real master of bass, and, well there are to many masters

  • How the hell did you get your hands on a ken lawrence? :D

  • Got lucky and happened to find a good deal on a used one right when I was shopping around for a custom bass :)

  • wath bass do you have???

  • It's a Ken Lawrence.

  • u r fucking awesome and nice bass

  • hmmm, lets say ..........100 % !

  • nah, geddy lee

  • loved it!

  • brilliant work and adds a new sound to a great song

  • Чувак! Ты очень круто играешь! Мы с парнями смотрим и офигеваем! Respect!

  • wath? :))

  • A String slightly out of tune, AMAZING sound though

  • damn your bass guitar is amazing. how much have you paid for it? since it is custom...

  • A new one like this from Ken would be at least 4-grand I think. I bought mine used, but it still wasn't cheap!

  • jason newsted is one of my biggest influences, itll take me a while to learn this song but thanks for posting, gret job

  • Comment removed

  • You should've played my friend of misery to honor Jason.

  • Yeah, that would be good :)

  • it might seem weird but it's nice to see that you have an open mind towards the pick, unlike other assholes

  • agree, i can't see why some people hate people who play bass with a pick, i personally like the sound with a pick a little better, pierces through the guitar and drums just enough to know that a bass is there

  • ignorance.

  • do you use the bass' EQ or are going into an amp or into the computer? I really like the tone, I'm aiming for something similar with a stingray and a gallien krueger, any luck?

  • hm... sting ray and gallien krueger....

    flea fan? ;-)

  • 5 string, and the gallien krueger was the most affordable too, but flea is awseome. A 5 string Jazz bass is next.

  • I'm going straight into the computer. Maybe a little bass EQ boost, but that's mainly just the way this bass sounds!

  • Nice, I like it. Does it have to do anything with the wood, what was it made out of? Looks like EMG pickups too.

  • The wood plays a big part. This bass has Mahogany body wings with an Ash center block. Maple neck and fretboard, and a Coco-Bolo top. The pickups and preamp were done by Chris Benavente.

  • Trujillo also uses Zon

  • who sucks ass? this guy? or some one in a previous comment?

  • This guy ROCKS!

  • Great cover!

    Keep Up The GREAT work!!!!!!

could you do a video review about the bassguitar?

  • I beg of you, do a cover of Four Horsemen!

  • I already did! Long before I did this video. Look it up :)

  • whoops...I just couldnt find it...lol XD

  • What basses is Jason playing?? Fender??

  • Jason mostly plays Sadowsky basses.

  • what about Trujillo

  • Tru uses fernandes, fender, spector, i think he has a ric. too

  • Your improvisation never ceases to amaze me. What do you think about when you improv? Also, may I suggest that you tackle a Dream Theater song, I saw your Change of Seasons videos and.....wow!! And extremely nice bass tone!!

  • It's perfect!!;).

  • Chance I saw this video on his birthday!!:) -46- YEEah!!;).

  • Awesome more!!!

  • I'm love, Awesom!, like says Bajsokorv!

  • Totally Jason's style. Crack, crackk!!;) Great performance!!

  • AWESOME! :D

  • Very nice cover - Totally blown away by all your videos - Keep uploading man.

  • They roundwounds. Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds. Flatwounds have flat windings and generally have a warmer, duller tone, and a smoother feel. Roundwounds are generally more well defined and brighter.

  • I just started to play bass and ... i hope i'll become as good as you are =)

  • Thanks. I plug straight into a Klark Teknik DI box, then that goes into an Mbox2 which goes to my laptop for recording. Pure and simple!

  • Thanks. I attribute much of that warm sound to these Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds strings. They have a much warmer tone than any other roundwounds I've played. Lower tension and smoother feel than others too. They're my favorite strings! Of course, it's a great sounding bass too :)

  • This bass was about 3-grand. The number of strings isn't going to effect the sound, just the feel of the neck and the range of notes that you have. I would say start with a 4-string and then once you get comfortable on that, you can see how you like having 5 strings. 90% of the time, you're only going to need 4-strings in any kind of 'standard' bass playing. I barely (if at all) use the B-string in this video.

  • i agree, but thats only because newsted barely ever used five strings. if ur gonn do anything off DM or St Anger, or anything by Trujillo then a 5 string is great

  • ............the only difference between a 4 and 5 or 6 string is the strings are closer together, other than that its just as easy to play.....

  • The strings are only closer together on some basses. My 5-string has 19mm spacing inbetween each string, which is the same as most 4-string basses. 19mm is the standard 'wide' spacing. Some 5 and 6-string basses do use a tighter spacing, but I prefer it wide.

  • he was my biggest influence on me too, ever since i saw him play in the S&M dvd. it was only later did i actually learn about cliff lol.

    nicely done.

  • Dude, teach me...
