I'm terribly sorry, but this is a really bad performance of this amazing piece. The tempo is way too fast, the registration is wrong and at around 1:55 she doesn't even play all the notes for the right hand!! I've certainly heard better...
Absolutely correct! I can not understand organists (if we could Bish name so) only attaching importance to their outward appearance and playing without emotion.
@GloriaJanvier ...and clearly you are an ignorant snob that has her nose too high up in the air to notice her own jealousy and ignorance, especially about French culture.... :-)
@ms103127 hello. i'm a huge fan of Dianes! i'm from Washington state. if it is okay with you, i would like to know what this GloriaJanvier had to say about our beloved Diane bish. thank you for your time! have a good day! :-)
yes, it's about time someone agrees with me lol! if i sound good playing Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor in 4:47, this song rules while being played by Diane Bish.
I quite agree, the toccata genre is supposed to be made to demonstrate the ability of the organist. If this means playing at high speed i think its okay
@f33rn44nd00 But what is the point of playing it fast if you can't hear the notes? It tranforms from music into noise. Besides, in a French church, not only would the acoustics be too live to play at a fast tempo, but the organs of the time would be physically impossible to play that fast.
@enchammade16, well, that's an incredibly intelligent observation, you are obviously well aware of how the feel work on the pedal board, aren't you? NOT
Too fast? No, I don't think so. After all, this IS a Toccata. I've heard Rene Saorgin play this piece at this tempo.
Thank goodness the artist puts a little of herself in this piece, r(egistration, tempo etc.)
Only the boring , unimaginative, play it the same way all the time, surely a great way to kill a piece.

It's played too fast, the mystery disappears. The oddly dry acoustics of the place helps the organist.
JanPB 2 years ago
No, it's not too fast. It's marked "Allegro" in my score and that is generally between 120 and 168 yes?

While I think this is very well played, this is certainly the fastest I've ever heard this played and I'm not sure I appreciate the faster tempo...
