  • Stephen King is by no means a boring writer, I just don't like his books.

He comes to Sarasota to skip winter in Maine and he comes into the Barnes and Noble I work at all the time... though I've missed him every single time. FML.

  • "a little bit on the scary side" fiction, lol

  • Horror novel see video book trailer

  • I've read The Shining, Misery and Rose madder. All great books. He is definetly my favorite author!

  • i like richard bachman better

  • @FoShoYo008 I see wut yu did thar.

  • SO, it only took 35 years for Stephen King to realize that his stories are all carbon copies of each other, with slightly altered protagonists.

  • @highguy9900 but then again It probally took his fans longer to figure that out

  • Stephen King wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror, and thats how he gets his ideas for stories.

  • Lovercraft,King,Tolkien,Rowling > Stephenie Meyer

  • Hey not trying to steal the spotlight and I am certainly not trying to compare myself to Stephen king. But I am letting everyone know that I am a first time published author. My book Rasciss tells the story of Hollowawk a man who literally defied death and now must face the wrath of petty gods. Come onto my channel and check out the promo video I made for Rasciss. Leave a comment and if you like what you see than please pick yourself up a copy and let me know what you thought about it.

  • Stephen King and JK Rowling are my idols I wanna to have a tenth of the talent they have.

  • @RottenDoctorGonzo You pretty much said what I wanted to say. I adore Stephen King, but I understand someone might not like his writing. Saying that that person is therefore stupid is immature and condescending.

  • I'm to be featured in Daytona Beach's "News-Journal" in September 2011 as a local author. I wrote a 96-page book entitled "Along the Far Climb Down" that's for sale at the notorious Polyester Books: 330 Brunswick St., Fitzroy (a suburb of Melbourne), Victoria, Australia. It's on page 1 of their web site. Type "Along the Far Climb Down" into Google's image file and you'll be nearly there.

  • I found his comment on not treating novels as "an intellectual game" to be very interesting, since that's a fundamental point that many mystery writers hammer on about; making the story a game between the author and the reader. Even Agatha Christie said that's how she constructs her stories, I wonder what he thinks about that.

  • i have a dark woman inside :3

  • My dark man and dark woman inside do digusting things to each other........

  • MAINE, on his shirt :p thats where his born :)

  • Stephen King's a legend.

But if you want to read the world's scariest short story... follow me.

  • @ThirteenVolumeOne follow you where

  • Dean Koontz and Stephen king are 2 different writers and to different minds, you can't compare them.. they are both really good writers for the stories they tell...

    I like them both....

  • That's why King is so Popular, he's won all these rewards, got minted and has a fan base to be proud of, yet his mind still conceives, his hands still write the words, and the stories keep on coming :3

Basically he's the Terminator of horror/thriller literature XD

  • @HeinrichKonig Hahahaa.Terminator.

So Dean Koontz is Universal Soldier?!

  • @reinforcedpenisstem hmm, i don't know, what kind of writer is Dean Koontz? whoever he is he sounds quite charismatic XD

  • no one in modern history compares to stephen king when it comes to fiction writing of any kind... he has a ship, everyone else has a dingy

  • Check out "WARS OF TIMES by LUN"

at Amazon and Barnes&Noble online bookstore

A world like you've never imagined before!!

  • LONG LIVE THE KING OF HORROR!!!!!

  • Don't give up Stephen, I'm sure you have something more to share with us and we're waiting impatiently!

  • I don't see how anybody can write so many great stories. I just don't understand how people come up with stories like that

  • I wonder what would happen if Stephen King and J.K Rowling were to write a story together..........holy shit.

  • @CaninesAreLove Kings stuff is veeery different to Rowling. Their both great writers in their own right, but I dont think they could pull off much together.

  • @darrin42 True....but if they're skills were combined that would be pretty awesome :)

  • @CaninesAreLove

Nope, Meyer's "skills" would definetely ruin King's if they combine :S

  • @CaninesAreLove that would be EPIC

  • I absolutely love his prospective and the words he chose when describing his books and what draws people to them.

He is such a gentleman and an all around amazing person.

    God Bless You Stephen King.

  • No, no, no! Please, I beg you, DON`T stop publishing, please!!!

  • he looks quite spooky, wouldt not like to meet him at night

  • yay for stephen king

  • As 1 of his Constant Readers (IMHO) he is The Best Author these days. I'm very glad that 1 of my college classes (Creative Writing) allows me to see thru his eyes. Namely, The Dark Tower saga in all of his books. Only, some are directly related & most are not. Let alone, astronomical & political & sociatal histories.

  • What he has to say about writing is almost as exciting as his writing itself. In a lot of ways his book, "On Writing" is my favorite Stephen King book.

  • I love him...

  • @fullmetalsaiyan what's wrong with me? Plenty good ol' righteous teaching and living the bible way when young---that's what's wrong with me according to you most likely!

  • Okay you fucking, yes I said fucking! Pussies, there are cuss words and profanity in the real world so King puts them in his book the book are made for MATURE people so if your not mature enough to read a cuss word well thats your loss..

  • @Ablossey Really...the mass media (movies & tv) say curse words 24/7/365. They get away w/ it easily. I always get LOL fr/ religious nuts, etc. who say they are shocked that SK puts curse words in his books. Then again, they are used to bs/ non-reality.

  • He should really take his own advice. The man hasn't had a decent book in over two decades. His early shit is still the bomb, though...

  • Best writer ever. He really knows what he's talking about. I follow his writing strategy of turning out 10 pages a day, and it works marvelously for me.

  • Stephen King! =D

  • I am a writer also---but one thing bothers me about SK'S books--too many curse words on dang near every page--Why? I choose not to use profaneness in my stories and don't plan on putting such language in my first novel that I've got planned---

  • @micmoable: It makes it realistically adult. Would you expect people in an argument to say "Go to heck you dumb nerd!" No, of course not. Also, just so you know, the word "dang" is just soft profanity. It really means "damn", and that's really what you're saying; only in a kid-like way. Therefore, if you use words like "dang" in your novel, it will only make you look like someone who's afraid of the word "damn". King's a man that speaks his mind. He doesn't have the urge to kiddy up his novels.

  • @SpeCulaTionS101 I know what you are saying--but wouldn't it be great if no one said DAMN and everyone tried to speak with less vulgarity----it's the way it ought to be--BUT BELIEVE ME I KNOW IT'S NOT HOW THE WORLD OUT HERE IS ANYMORE--NO, THEY'D RATHER FALL DOWN IN THE TRAP OF FILTH AND PROFANITY!

  • @micmoable: I suppose that's a matter of opinion. However, keep in mind that most of S.K's stories revolve around something profane in itself. Cars that kill people, clowns that kill people, diseases that kill people, etc. So, therefore, if he didn't use profanity, it wouldn't make a lick of sense. Still, if you want to write stories without any vulgar words or context I say have a blast! In the end, writing is for you; do it your way. :D

  • @SpeCulaTionS101 My college English professor told us a story about how his Mom wanted to read a S.K. book but did not want to read all the profanity. My teacher read through the entire book and blacked out every bit of profanity for her. :)

  • @DAB0690: I bet it was...empty. LOL

  • @SpeCulaTionS101 NO, IT WAS BETTER!

  • @SpeCulaTionS101 IT PROBABLY WAS--CAUSE EVERY OTHER WORD IN HIS BOOKS ARE PROFANE WORDS

  • @micmoable It is only filth and profanity because you see it that way. To me, they are just words. Although I do not use any of them often.

  • this guy has creative mind.........

  • While it is sad that he is going to stop publishing, think of it this way, would you want the Indy Jones 4 equivalent of green mile? GREEN MILE 2: PET SEMATARY. All the outlaws that got fried rise from the dead and chase tom hanks for 90 minutes before he gets pig blood dumped on him by an obsessive fan. But in the end it was actually aliens.

  • If he stopped publishing, I would understand. He's written lots of books. I think I can live with those he's given us. But if he decided to continue publishing that would be SWEET!

  • This brilliant intellectual is the reason why I got into horror (:

  • Stephen King is the writing Jesus. Just throwing that out there.

  • @JohnNewton27 neah. Stephen king is real.

  • @TheMajinTrunks True, true.

  • @JohnNewton27 you should read, Looking for Alaska, by John Green

  • @uniforchrist What's it about?

  • @JohnNewton27 King's become such a legend that to compare him to another legend of a entirely different category is just not worth it. King is the King of writing. That's all that needs to be said. Not just because it rings and makes sense. He is the himeself of writing I guess. King Stephen if you will. ;)

  • Oh, my God, it`s like he`s reading my mind! Damn, he`s good! No, seriously, a lot of people have praised my writing and told me I have talent and it`s my goal now to write and publish this (i think) amazing novel I`m currently working on. And if someday a copy of it gets into this guy`s hands, ... Well, I can only hope that he`ll like it as much as I do, because he is one of the authors I admire the most. Keep up the good work, Stephen, I wish you all the best

  • he has a a wierd face, a face of a maniac, but damn, he is a legendary writer!

  • @biochips1

i apologies for my poor behavior. i can assure you that im not ignorant dogmatist. i would have never spoken ill of meyer aloud but was very upset by the comments against king. which seem to be gone. although i do not regret what i have said. it was my opinion and ill stand by it. for all those meyer fans, well ok. but to say king sucks and is jealous is ridiculous. and yea, people do think of him of being BORING but hes number one author for a reason. not to mention highest pay.

  • biochips1

oh shut up. after all the other rude comments, you just happened to notice my (rude) but true comment. all those other fans of meyer just wish the'd find the same kind of love. there all teens who need to grow up. (although im a teen myself, i find myself more mature). and for people to think hes a boring writer is just stupid.

  • He is so great!!! I freakin' LOVE this guy!!!! =D

  • fucking great writer

  • Bella reflects upon herself through the entire novel to tell important plot developments. Hey Meyer, ever heard of "Show, don't tell"?

  • I bought "On Writing" for the writing advice and was pleasantly surprised that the memoir in the first half of the book was better than the advice in the second half. The second part was great but the memoir was a page turner. I will read it all again.

  • Stephen King.

    is the best !

    king of horror.

  • He can't stop writing, besides, he needs to finish the third Talisman book!

  • king is the greatest writer of the 20th century

  • If he's come to the end of his rope than so be it. Like a true artist he won't compromise his standard. It will be like an old boxer staying in the game too long...he will only embarrass himself and get carried out on a stretcher. He is still the best in my view.

  • I friggin love him as a writer :)

  • stephen king is friggin awsome and way better then myers

  • In some way, he looks like Pat Cassel in College Humor.

  • When was this interview????? AGGG! I can't figure it out!

Anywho, yes. Every story should be approached with cation. It's the writers role to keep the story alive in the reader's mind. The story that gives you nightmares perhaps, or the story that inspires you in life...those are the alive stories. There are many kinds, Stephen, however, has mastered them all!

  • @MistyAngel1990

You're missing the point, like the AP teacher who tells you that you can write about anything you want. He means to say that when you're reading you "should approach it with caution" and make the story "alive." That is, don't accept that there's already a meaning behind it. First, see it for what it's worth as a narrative. Then, if that happens to be thought provoking, this is what will bond reader and writer. Hence, making a good writer.

  • Mr. King has a beautiful mind.

  • lol, dude. seriously. king? jealous? of what??? you obviously dont know anything. why dont you go read another LAME book by stephanie since it seems you all over her. oooohhhh, wait. she only has like five, lol. sorry to disappoint you kid but little writer doesnt have anything on king and go cry about it while writer how she suxs and king is right!!!

  • @tiffdepp

What kind of ignorant dogmatist are you? I have never read a book by Stephenie Meyer, but there are obviously millions of readers out there who love her writing. Even people who write a lot better than King would agree with me. Yes, it's true. There are a lot of readers who regard King as a boring writer. So, live with it.

  • @Biochips1 the ones who say stephen king is a boring writer should not be reading books in the first place because whatever they are reading is trash that dumbs down one's IQ. I read both twilight and new moon (i only read new moon to see if she had done a better job the second time around). Those books are atrocious, so much so that i refused to read the other books in the series. I felt so dumb after i read those books. Stephen King, Mark Twain, Arthur Conan Doyle, and HP Lovecraft ftw!

  • @generosos87 I think it's because of the metaphor. People can't relate with intangible ideas. I don't know if it means they're dumb. But if they prefer Twilight over Stephen King and say it's better, then yeah they're dumbshits. Good books suck you in and transport you, books like Twilight tell a story. And not a very good one in this case.

  • @generosos87 Isnt it true that Mark Twain is highly claimed as the best american writer/story teller in history?

  • @generosos87 I don't know what is worse - your ignorance, or that twenty-something people gave your comment the thumbs up.

So, for you, anyone that finds King boring (I'm not necessarily one of those people) should not read books at all because what they read is trash that dumbs the IQ? Do you ever reflect on the things you say?

Ooh, and aren't you clever mentioning Conan-Doyle and Mark Twain?

Grow up. One thing worse than an elitist is a wannabe-elitist.

  • @generosos87 agreed. Lovecraft, you beautiful psychopath!

  • @generosos87 NOw I Agree with you that stephine myer is an atrotiouse writer, i can do better then that and im 14, but i also dis agree with you that people who think stephen king is boring are killing their brain cells on that crap. I know i am going to get killed virtualy by saying this but i think that the stephen king books are boring at the beginning and thats as far as i got, given the only one i really tried was IT and im trying to start salems lot and i might not even know anything....

  • @AwsomeSinger2B I would suggest that you try the Eyes of the Dragon, some of his short stories and some of his writings as Richard Bachman. I've read Stephen King works since I was little and even though I love it I still find sometimes that some of his endings are unsatisfying, but there are many of his books that I love all the way through. So please don't give up on him, he is one of the best. Try out some of his other work.

  • @generosos87 because i only read IT but i also read classic works like dracula and frankenstine and sherlock holmes hell i read adult fiction and i thinnk that the MISERY book sounds very good and i do want to get it on my new kindle. Now scince yopu seem like such a stphen king fan do you know which one i could really get into becaus ei would really love to read one of his books all the way through. Thank you :)

  • @AwsomeSinger2B I would suggest that you try the Eyes of the Dragon, some of his short stories and some of his writings as Richard Bachman. I've read Stephen King works since I was little and even though I love it I still find sometimes that his endings are unsatisfying, but there are many of his books that I love all the way through. Also his short stories are some of his best, so don't give up on him just yet. Oh and if you can look for Kingdom hospital miniseries, great show he worked on.

  • @chabella16 thank you for the help i will for sure look it up :)

  • @Biochips1 Well those people who calls King a boring writer is if im gonna be truly honest probably not that smart.... I mean every1 who have read a book by King can notice that the books are very deep, complicated and at some points a little confusing though i think that's 1 of the things that makes him great!

  • You're an idiot.

You argue in ad hominems and platitudes. Nothing that you said has any grounds. If you're trying to prove anything, you're only proving that you're stupid.

  • @skycullen04 hahuahauhauhahuaehaueahuaehuaeuh nice joke

  • rabble rabble rabble! im on the internet so im gonna talk shit!

  • my fav books/movies from him is cojo and IT

  • Shallow person: If you want to see something pretty go and watch Twilight. This is what mature readers read.

  • @GazzaGlitta No thanks... I rather read the King and keep my brain intact

  • @GazzaGlitta

"Twilight" is just Nicholas Sparks as a bloody teen-ager!

  • So true.

  • I don't think he should stop publishing, I think he NEEDS a break, and just live a little more; have his heart broken, and have some new experiences. I'm sure the world wants more good King over more King, and definitely over no King at all.

  • @MistyAngel1990 The gist of it is that if your only goal is to turn the reader in a circle with your wit then you shouldn't be writing. Literature (or fiction), is meant to take a reader somewhere they haven't been before and to show them something they can relate to. This can be something thought-provoking or mindless; but the emotion, the connection with the reader and the writer is what is sought. Not the argument of right and wrong, that is for essays. The argument should be subtext

  • @frozenmorale Who are you to tell somebody how or when to write?

  • I was answering a question from another comment and elaborating on Stephen Kings statement. I'm not lecturing, simply answering a question. If you don't like my answer then that's your problem, not mine.

  • Have a hissy fit why don't ya lmao

  • Yes, because I'm really having a hissy fit. Why don't you go bug someone else troll.

  • Because you're trying to tell people what to do and how to write, don't respond if you aren't the troll here.

  • How am I trying to tell people what to do and how to write? Did you read her comment? She asked what he meant by saying not to try to be intellectual and said what he meant, I was rephrasing his term in a way that is easier to understand. I was in no way trying to give my own piece of advice and nothing I said had anything to do with my personal beliefs, opinions or thoughts on writing.

Furthermore I myself am a writer, maybe not published, but writers have the right to give each other advice

  • Regardless of whether the advice is taken. So STOP trolling.

  • Finally, how am I trolling by responding to a comment directed at me? Would you rather I sit idly by? Do you even know what a troll is? I bet you don't.

  • im halfway through under the dome its great but thats funny needful things is my favorite still

  • You should reat It, in the extrapolation that talks about Bill Denborough taking a creative writing class in college. When you're writing, the point is to tell a good story; if you turn it into "some intellectual game"--are more concerned with it being thought-provoking than it being any good--your writing is going to suck. You'll notice that those classic thought-provoking novels are thought provoking BECAUSE they tell good stories, not in spite of it.

  • well said, thanks!

  • Very good and Yes under the Dome is out for a month i think. I got it for Christmas and it is an awesome book, but my Favoriten is still needful thinks^^

    5*

  • This man is truly the legend. Just like Bruce Lee in the martial arts world, he's the legendary figure in the world of literature.

  • He looks like horror...

  • you think so? you obviously haven't seen his wife

  • haha, yeah. you're right.

  • I'm sure you don't look better, you asshole. It's not ALWAYS physical beauty, damn!

  • Didnt his latest book, the dome, come out last month? And Duma Key 2 keys before that?

  • He must not stop. lol. i will disturb him somehow; and he will be moved very quickly to write about it. I can hear the thrumming of the word processor coming up from stand-by in his gaudy gated house as i type this.

  • In my house we have his books and movies, along with over 200 other movies!

Stephen was scaring the shit out of my kids and now grand kids...I LOVE IT!

Stephen is a damn good writer, and I hope he keeps his work coming!

  • King dutch ovens his wife.

  • He sounds a bit bored. No way can he be done. Make a list of words/sentences. ideas-and tear then into suggestions, put them in a jar, pull one out and write a paragraph on the chosen one. Do this with three or five. Think about which one you want to continue with & write a page. Create characters, scenes, conflict, protagonist & an antagonist. Now write a short story. See it continuing or not. Then do it again until u find the one that trips your trigger. Keep the rest in the jar/add to it!

  • My mom always had stephen king books around the house, but I wasn't a big reader. My sister and I watched The It television movie and it scared the you know what out of us, and we LOVED it. Then Mom says " the book is even better." I was probably 10 at that time, and I set off on my mission to read that dictionary of a book and haven't stopped reading his books since. Thanks Mr.King for terrifying me since childhood.

  • I adore Stephen King's books.

  • Stephen King is one the best writers I know. ^^ I hope he never stops writing books! :D

  • He says he feels like he's already written most of what he thinks he has to say, all the monsters, etc. This is so sad, I think. Come on Stephen, don't give up yet!

  • @salicifam5 He wasnt giving up, he was just saying he has said all he had to say, that doesnt mean he is quitting. I dont think he realizes how great his imagination is though. I dont think he will run out of any ideas soon. Since he said this hes published a bundle of books.

  • What a man

  • this dude inspired me to write thanks Stephen King!

  • @babaoriley8 too bad your stories are shit

  • @iDraw3G true.

  • @babaoriley8 same here

  • I read Thinner by Bachman three years ago. It was extraordinary insecure inside. but I love Stephen King.

  • he doesnt look ANYTHING like "IT" the clown...

  • i hope he will someday write 'Misery's Return' :D:D

  • yeah he might get costrained to write it by a mad nurse...lol.

  • He's a great writer, sometimes they wreck them when there made into movies but he's a great writer

  • He's not just a great writer, he's the BEST WRITER EVER!!!

  • I will worship him if he wants me to. But I know he doesn't, and I'm not any sort of idolism anyway. So I'll just continue my writing and reading. Hopeing he won't die before my success happens in my first published. And I also remember wanted him to be my old man back when I was 16.

  • good luck then.

  • just read running man By Bachman aka Stephen king

  • I seen cults worshipping stephen king. But since I'm catholic I cant believe I'm saying this but he actually deserves that

  • I was never a reading person, until i first read Stephen King's ''Pet Semertary'', god i loved that book, but still to this day, the ONLY books i read are the ones by Stephen King.

He is a God at writting.

  • I loved the character Layland Gaunt from Needful Things. Also the opening chapter of Rose Madder with her at the foot of the stairs bleeding is terrifying.

Which one is your fave? Has to be Shining with a name like redrum.

  • Oh awesome , um no actually its not the shining, my favorite would have to be probably ''Tommy Knockers'', the characters Bobbi and Gardner are so well put together =].

  • I never read that one as we have a little loch at the bottom of my house that looks on to a 400 year old castle. I'd be scared something rises out of the lake. Have you read the Duma key?

  • That's my favorite book of all time. I just noticed something funny, though. Ruth's husband died in 1972, yet he and Ruth have a conversation about Hilly Brown's fear of her dolls. But the story takes place in 1988---if Ralph were around to know Hilly even at Hilly's youngest, that would make Hilly 16 by the time Bobbi stumbles upon her find. And he's only about ten.

  • ooo i love him,my 6th grade teacher actually knows him

  • no writer can top him in my oppinion

  • yeah Maine lol i live in maine to, i saw he at a gas station once. haha he's bit odd lol

  • you have to be a bit odd to write that well

  • what book is he talking about in the beginning??

  • idk maybe its IT

  • Stephen King has to sleep with the light on at times I have heard... just saying... :D

  • I've heard him say that he never has nightmares because he gives them all to us.

  • Stephen King and Joe Lansdale are the best writers of the world!!!!I really love them!!!!

  • i like it but one think doesn't make sense; The small rock with a design so incredible it could have been made by god himself.

But in fact everything was made by god. don't you see?

  • I am a budding author longing to be famous in my hometown of Picayune, Mississippi. I have several horror short-stories in print in a local anthology. I am a die-hard fan of Stephen King. I cite him as an influence.

  • Stephen King kicks ass

  • man i first rad his book when i was 8 i pissed my pants how scared i was... i love Him

  • I just discovered Stephen King's work sometime early this year. I was blown away. Wow.

  • The Dark Tower series is probably his best work in my opinion, and it also makes you want to read his other books.
