from what people say, it seems that the plane kept doing tip wing stalls flipping abruptly from left to right as the pilot was applying alot of pack pressure on the elevator stick, applying counter left & right inputs while in a panic state to try and regain control of the aircraft. P-51's don't handle stalls very well especially with those low aspect ratio tapered wings.

I love how everyone turns a disaster into a chance to bitch at eachother and insult people. Clearly the pilot tried to steer his plane away from the crowd. Clearly a control surface broke and made that impossible. Clearly he shut off his fuel because there was no fire. Clearly what he did was not easy. Reacting that fast. Having no time to eject. Imagine how his family feels. To me, the guys a hero. Anyone who disagrees clearly doesn't know the meaning of the term.
