Ive got an old Bell mini pump I bought at Wal-Mart that works fine after over 5 years of abuse including leaving it out in the rain, and pumping up a tire once a week that has a slow leak. They don't fall apart that easily.
@ipissed I have a Bell mini pump from Walmart as well, but it's an absolute piece of junk. It spews more air out the sides than it does out the end. I don't think it's ever worked actually. Maybe I just got a lemon.

I too have a small cheaper pump and have never had any problems with it in four years of pretty regular use.
