I love bands, especially good ones! My Uncles used to have jam sessions, with my Mama, on the piano, in our living room. The neighborhood kids had their noses pressed against the screen door, listening and watching. Recently, I found an item in my Mama's diary that said, "We didn't have practice today. Shirley and Mary Joy (my sister) broke Uncle Sonny's drum!" I guess we just couldn't resist trying it! We were very young.

I have listened to this song since the days that Herbie Mann first recorded it. In the 1960's, Mongo Santamaria did probably the coolest version I had ever heard, then Herbie Mann did a fantastic job with his rendition. THIS band has now joined the list of those great versions.. Who are they, and where can I buy their C-D's? If they can win me over with their version, I KNOW they've probably got some more great stuff out there.

The alto solo from 1:30 to about 2:00 and the one from 2:40 to 3:10 are reaaally good :)

The rest are about average, but its still a reaaaally good recording :)

I had to watch the video again to see what you were talking about. I had a mic on Marion Meadows, who was standing next to Eric Merienthal. That was him joking with Eric, saying "stop showing off." Marion performed in this and one other solo, before we left for Redondo Beach to perform that evening, where he headlined the show with Joyce Cooling and June Kuramoto from Hiroshima.
