I really don't see why everyone is bagging on season 5 so much. Sure there were loose ends but it was still great. We finally get to see Dexter showing SOME emotion.
Season 5 was by far the worst. It was like a soap opera. 2 was the best. Then 1. But I freaking love the line, "A wolf would chew off its own paw, its survival instinct is that fierce. So is mine."

It was a great continuation of the season 4 issue, and explored new areas (someone finally accepting Dexter for who he was, proper compassion for someone else so not the usual 100% selfish motives, etc.). I agree with you that 2 was the best and 1 the second best though. 5 comes third for me.

But she needed to go so that the programme didn't become "Dexter and Lumen". Frankly, I think it's annoying that Dexter is so healed now in series 6. Not that I'm not enjoying series 6, I am. I just preferred series 5.

I think the writers are wanting to keep Astor and Cody away (the no-time-need-to-look-after-kids thing has already been done a fair amount), so a slower approach is more sensible. Make Astor forgive Dexter, but not idolise him. So the relationship is repaired, but no longer present in the programme.
@ddemonicflame Astor never accepted Dexter as her step-dad.. And after Rita's death she refused to live with him.. I think there was a huge potential redemption storyline there.. Either way, the Lumen storyline was horrible for Season 5, it didn't suit the situation at all

Dexter seems so unevolved, Batista and Laguerta broke up, the second S.M. Killer is gone, and the investigation with Quinn in Stan's death is over just because the blood results were inconclusive? That makes no sense. He'd still be the number one suspect with all of the phone calls and the other evidence. I don't know what to think of S6 so far

Skinner feels he's completely in control and feeling awesome trying to scare Dexter with whistling and a scary look and THEN Dexter just completely owns him.

No matter how flexible your hand is looking at that you would have to miraculously lift the table up to be able to take your hand out. In this video you see how the magic of editing caused the hand to just automagically pop out and at 5:01 it's out.
