De La Hoya fought Steve Forbes (33-5) in a tuneup for a possible rematch with Mayweather. De La Hoya showed a more relaxed style, throwing a constant jab and always staying on his toes
@salsancheznumber1fan oscar was a great fighter, however is downfall (IMO) was he chose too many trainers to get the right formula over his career. I believe he was the most effective with Mayweather SR. It was a shame, because I don't think he was TOO old to fight Manny, but mix it with coming down to welterweight and new trainer, was a recipe for disaster. Of course his body was getting older, but he always seemed to adjust.
Oscar DeLaHoya was a great world champion,DeLaHoya beat the great former world champion Steve Forbes,a great victory for DeLaHoya,it proves that Oscar DeLaHoya fought best when he was trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr.
Top 5?!? That's crazy. Mosley, Mayweather and Pacquiao all proved they were superior to Oscar, and an ageing Whitaker deserved at least a draw against him. If Oscar is in the top 5 all-time pound-for-pound list, those fighters would have to fill up the top 4!
Sorry, you're massively overrating Oscar's achievements. He'd be lucky to crack the top 50.
well thats your opinion. Myaweather and Pacquiao didnt fight an Oscar in his prime, he was way over ther hill when they got to him so they didnt show that they where better than the Oscar that everyone remembers. Whitaker ..... ya they could of gave him the draw but Oscar took it
WOW!!!oscar de la hoya fights are so borings...as if oscar paid his opponents to lose!!! sorry but i think he couldn't pay pacquiao(rejected the golden boy promotions)but to see oscar this slow...man...his goin down!!!HARD!!!!GO MANNY MABUHAY KA!!!!TANGINA NYO KAYONG MGA MEXICANO!!!!
i feel oscar will really fade later rounds if pacquiao moves and uses his quickness and agility and at the same time put on some pressure wisely. he could tire goliath out. however, I cant see manny catching oscar with a 1 punch KO , but i also CANT see oscar keeping up with manny´s stamina, speed, agility, fighting at a fast pace for 12 rounds at this stage!! oh weighing is done!! 145 oscar, 142 manny! the fight is hours away!!
De La Hoya vs Pacman is like Lennox Lewis getting in the ring with Calzaghe, it is the biggest mismatch I've ever seen in the boxing ring...Pacman is far too small, being better than De La Hoya p4p at this stage in their careers means sweet FA
Im a bit nervous to this fight. But if Manny will do the left and right movement and the lightning speed punches. moved out without getting hit, then it is his game.
I guess forbes is a defensive fighter, but Manny is hard to hit, Forbes is flat footed in this fight, no head movement. I think Oscar will having a hard time to connect. But the left hook still the weapon here. I watched the arrival of the 2 fighters in Las Vegas. Manny lokks very ready, he looks like a beast. Oscar seemed fine but for me looks weak.He looks like Erik Morales trying to catch up the weight in his last battle to Pacman.
if manny improved his defense , and if he fights smart, goes in then out, moves around the ring make good use of it, like against diaz.. make oscar miss and attack his body early on.. through that oscar will definitley fade quickly ! oh and if manny feeds oscar his blinding 1,2,3 (or even more the better )combinations, and that for 12 rounds, could already set the outcome of the fight. But oscar is tough! Manny must not underestimate him!! pacman really has to use his speed advantage for this!!
and even forbes is not in pacmans caliber well forbes did some broken bones from oscars face and what about pacmans punch? can cut and mess oscars face i think
These is for the haters. You talk about age, lock of speed of the la hoya but you will see on december 6. You see Bernard Hopkins is almost 50 and still can kick any youngster ass easy. Pacman is 30 and de la hoya 35.
Oscar can't have his hands down like this against Manny. That is the only thing I am worried about. Forbes did stun him a bit, but if Manny hits him like this, Oscar could be in trouble. However, I do see Oscar winning by decision or KO.
steve hits oscar often, but no power.how about f manny will hit oscar, what will happen lets find out on dec 06.these fight will shake up d boxing world.manny by ko or split decision.mabuhay...peace
oscar was fighting his last two fights against box and move fighters! dec 6 will be tough for him! he has no idea what massive pressure pacquiao puts on opponents and at the same time landind blinding bombs! m concerned for oscar! i like him as a fightr but i think he won last long his next fight! stamina is a big factor dec6. and pacquiao has that stamina to prevail and take oscar apart! the only way for oscar to win is by ko EARLY in the fight! if not then PAC WILL do so in the late rounds!

if manny start to throw bodyhits early in the fight, that can be the difference, because oscar looked wicker in the last rounds with forbes...
