It'd actually be easier for beginners if you fill the K1 with water. And when you paddle, try not to lean to the side and paddle low, don't raise the paddle too high up. Also, sitting up straight helps with the centre of gravity, and keep your knees together. It helps for me, at least.
lol, this vid,s made me happy as I've been lucky to get the hang of the K1 first time, i admit it is like parking ya bum on an ice skate and trying to keep upright, congrats on winning ya race
Bit bold rying this out 1 month before DW - I would love to know how you got on. I had an identical experience to this but without and instructor! Started training for DW in Sept and have mastered more stable K1's and are doing non stop race in K2 in a months time. Good video as it showed me I wasnt the only one who found it impossibl;e to start with. Thanks. Paul
So you never paddle a kayak before and you're trying to race with a K1. It's akin to learning how to drive with a F1 car. The K1 is about as tipsy as kayak go. The guy doesn't even know how to brace. The lady's instruction is basically useless. 1 star for wasting my time.
I think you need to understand what the video was for. If it's not what you're looking for there's no need to 1 star, just go and find a video that helps you. This was first go, went on to master the K1 and win the race. Thanks for visiting.
@GreatBigPaddle i think, in this video you never use the hungarian k1 (because that is the ungarian k1), so is impossible to paddle the first time. i talk to you like this because i do kayak with a professional k1, do you know the olimpics kayaks, that are.

@bosvill looks like a Wildcat I think. could be wrong though since there are no obvious emblems on it.

WEll done Dave,
I paddled K1s, sea race kayaks and super wide touring boats and I know what you have been through. It's all easier said than done.

Nice one Dave Skateboard. Just had my first attempt in a K2 with identical results. Thanks for putting this up. You have given me hope.
