Hi I was wondering if u could tell me what type of Irish wooden flute u have. I very much like yours and am looking for one that is similar to it to purchase. I have very little knowledge about this type of flute so if u can reply that would be great.
Can Someone Listen To My EVP Video Theres Some Kind Of Flute Being Played Near The End Of It For About A Minute And I Need To Know What Song It Is. Keep In Mind Its A Ghost Playing It! It Sounds Like Either A Flute Or A Harmonica!
Anyone know if there's a name for what happens in the music between 0:56 and 0:58? I hear it in a lot of Irish pieces. Surely there's a name for it if any trad musicians know it.
@Arlecchino123 It's a flattened 7th slurred upwards through the leading note to the tonic ...a frequent ornamental device . can be used in ant part of scale if melodic onsiderations allow..my own taste would be ..never slur downwards, and don't carry a slur beyond a tone in the upward direction. Avoid too many slurs as this leads to a sort of syrup! Finally: a slur should not wail!!!
Where can you get an Irish Flute? Where I live it's hard to find music stores. Or do you know of any good Musical internet sites where I could purchase one?
brian tells me the flute is a "Wallis" made in Euston Road London in 1837 , its Indian Rosewood. The mic i used was run through a software reverb in cubase as brian played the tune, rather than added later.
This is something quite reminicent of a song like, "Where were you" by Jeff Beck. It has it's own intrinsic quality. The number one problem with recordings done of a song like this someone feels its thier duty to open thier big mouth in the middle of it (narration). The elegant beauty of something of this nature stands alone without scenery or pictures of empty battlefields and all that sort of nonsence. I believe there is a marvelous hypnotic quality to it.
should be able to get the dots on the web perhaps on The Session site. Also available in the book 'Traditional Slow Airs of Ireland" by Tomas O Canainn 1995. Try getting the tune in your head though since these style of tunes are not well transmitted on paper !

what is the difference between a wooden flute like this and a wooden irish flute that has some keys?
crh094 2 years ago
the notes you can play on it, and because of that, the scales you can play on it. That's the only difference besides the price :p

what's the advantage of having a -piece flute over a 2-piece? (if there is 1).
crh094 3 years ago
the 2 piece flute is tuneable, so you can sharpen or flaten the notes when needed

Superb piece of traditional Irish - Far off Tasmania is lucky to have such a virtuoso in their midst -
Brian was sent out there to Banish Misfortune and he's done one helluva job!
