Depends on the geology/biology of a region.

I've seen professional drivers from atv magazine come up here to northern Canada and get (needed winching) stuck in the most insignificant bit of mud. They also got their brand new bighorn tires torn to shreads, on what the locals consider a nice smooth trail.

I will agree that most mudding videos have the machines going through mud holes that have been cleared of sub-surface obstacles. Not natural ones.
