the people in this car are the same lot who work on hems. At night the helicopter is not allowed to be used as they are not alloud to land, so if there is a job trauma job that requires a doctor form hems then they attend in this car. They dontt do doctor on call jobs. The doctor is not licenses to drive the hems cars it is driven by las paramedics. Oh and they only use skodas now, the contract with subrau has ended due to kerb weights
Green is for urgent home visits. Cannot go through red lights nor speed. Blue is for serious emergencies ie Serious Trama cases received via Basics or Hems.
So tell me, what sort of calls do you have to deal with? I'm interested to know because i saw a Doctor on a shout today with green flashing lights and a siren.. it made me wonder what sort of medical emergency would call for a doctor and not an ambulance - somebody giving birth at home perhaps?
@Glumlock Well I guess they respond to the most critical medical emergencies e.g. patients suffering from serious traumas. So the doctor and the paramedic assist the "usual" LAS ambulance crew.
There is also a very nice documentation about the HEMS air ambulance, search youtube for "HEMS Medic one".
Usually there is an ambulance on the way there too. I'm a doctor and some of my colleagues do this kind of work, where they go either as a doctor-on-call type call (out of hours work) or if they are called somewhere by the ambulance service, e.g. serious/critical illness, as they can do things and give certain drugs that paramedics can't. It really is like taking a specialist to the patient's side within the "Golden Hour".
@jzm3bsj And of course it would be even better to get the patient into a hospital within that golden hour instead of treating him on the scene. I think Lady Diana spent more than hour dying in that tunnel before they put the ambulance in gear and took her to the hospital.
because u just have to stabilize the patient first and then drive him to hospital.
it doesnt bring anything if u bring him to hospital and HE/SHE DIES on the WAY!
In germany nearly every emergency call with an ambulance contains an NEF (emergency physician car) so this system with a doctor (notarzt) is much better then just bring him to hospital! ;)
@Gerechtable Well most states in the USA use highly trained paramedics who are able to do a lot such as push drugs and start IVs. It would be interesting to look at statistics regarding prehospital treatment between different countries using different systems.
@Gerechtable Whilst germans use nefs, you will find that the majority of the other staff in prehospital care in Germany/Austria are poorly trained. For instance sanitater etc. NEFS are not sent to all calls, thats a load of rubbish. . Paramedics in the uk, are able to carry out about 99% of the stuff a german NEF would do. For the instances we cant, we can call out HEMS or BASICS or even our own critical care paramedic.
@sky9878 Well, the pre-clinical deployment of physicians in Germany is a necessity because German law states that invasive measures (starting from i.v. accesses) have to be conducted by a physician.
There are regional exceptions, considering situations when there is no NEF available or it would take too long for the NEF to arrive.
@sky9878 - Same in NY. Paramedics can do whatever is necessary to save a life if authorized by Medical Control (a doctor on the other side of the radio).
:O the HEMS car, havent seen one of these for ages! doctors who are normally part of the heli-med team, also have access to these skoda octavia vrs's as well as subaru imprezas, so that when they cant gain access to a scene via helecopterm they can still get there quick. nice catch! :)
blue lights are used down here for all emergency services, orange lights for anything else that doesnt require traffic to move. though i believe this car has 2 green lights also.
