The larger cat is dominant and therefore it is fulfilling its role to regularly mark the house with its sent so that it can establish its territory.

Otherwise, it fears that it may lose its home and another, larger cat may steal its humans and get a free ride.

Cute cat :-)... I think I know why the other cat (the "dumb one", to use your words) wants to go outside every 15 minutes: it has long hair and very thick coat; the cat must be very hot indoors and wants to cool itself... I had a long haired cat who used to do the same (And it was very intelligent, by the way)

Simba IS a very smart cat, and I just tease him, because he's my husbands' pet, whereas Nala is my lil girl. But they both sleep on our bed at night, and both are VERY spoiled. And you're probably right about his fur - very thick!
