  • This song takes me back to Amsterdam walking down the Kalverstraat (walking street).

  • If you listen to the Velvettes version youtube.com/watch?v=tpAoYOPfJ1w you cannot believe it is the same song

  • this is sooooooooooooooooo cooooooool

  • @LenaDelovely 1981. they just did their 30th anniversary thing eartlier this month.

  • @TheAlienesque You may already have the answer you seek. It all depends if your looking for It, Them Or when. Only you know which and only you know why . But you will khow when you know thats it right.

  • Love this song and video lol!!! Yes-it's cheap as but it DOES have an early 80's charm about it :-) And if u listen carefully,it's Keren (or Sarah-i've forgotten) who is helping out on the piano lol!!!

  • This song was originally recorded by the Velvelettes. I like the Velvelettes version much butter. The Velvelettes version is more soulful.

  • the girl strippy top rules !

  • bo bop shubi du-op

  • Hey Piss Off Haters!

  • Did the awesomely talented Midge Ure really direct this stinking pile of dung? This is godawfully, embarrasingly BAD. One of the worst videos I've ever seen.

  • what a stupid video...bananarama was a big joke...it is so stupid and silly

  • Sometimes songs get written years before they mean something to the author. Or they are just an echo in time! which helps later.

  • The videos in the 80s were FUN!

  • Horrible. Compare this crap to the original Motown classic. No comparison.

  • @DJRobinNOLA - So true! I just played the original and then listened to this one. Just horrible.

  • We're having a contest to find the worst video ever. This is my selection. I think I'm going to win. Though True Men Don't Kill Coyotes by Red Hot Chili Peppers is awful, too.

  • @fooddude3500 - Haven't seen such a stupid video in a long time. What was with the cardboard car/steering wheel cutouts???? Talk about a REAL low budget. It must have been embarrassing to be in this piece of $%^&

  • @fooddude3500 For your consideration, I submit the Hall & Oates cover of "Jingle Bell Rock". How's that for (bad)apples?

  • This song has a little 50's , 60;s, 70's rolled up in one song for the 80's.

  • BOP BOP SOOBI DOO WOP!!

  • 2011!,...I love this shit!!!

  • I think it's interesting (and amusing) that people are so offended by this version - in a way, that was sort of half the point! Bananarama initially came out of punk scene and thought it would be a piss up to sing pop songs because they found the idea humorous. They've never claimed ot be the most vocally talented group ever.

  • @markthemovieman and others ... do you not know what a piss-take is then ... maybe did not grow up in the 80s in England, huh?

  • i didnt know in england they drive from the middle seat

  • God almighty, why was I cursed with growing up in the 80s, the worst decade ever. What a blasphemous version of a Velvelettes masterpiece this abomination is.

  • These white chicks are nutting but copycatter they can't sing

  • Damn, this brings back sooo many memories of the care free high school days!! Good times, man, good times!!

  • Bop bop shoobie doo bahhh...

  • How many of you know that Banarama in the 1970's used to be a back up vocal group for a European Boy Band called Fun Boy Three? I think they're featured in this video

  • @BlogShag I don't consider Fun Boy Three as a boy band...

  • @BlogShag Fun Boy Three were formed by Terry Hall, Lynval Golding & Veville staples when they left The Specials ... hardly a "boy band" !!

  • ram-a-banana

  • With this song I'm starting to reconsider what Stephanie Tanner once said in an episode of Full House, "The Bangles, Bananarama, what's the difference?"

I'm not saying the are totally equal, but this songs makes me wonder why both groups have almost the same tune in their songs "Really Saying Something" (Bananarama) and "Walking Down Your Street" (The Bangles). Both songs say "I was walking down your street".

I hope to receive feedback. I didn't mean to hurt somebody's ideas or belief. =)

  • I lke both groups (Bananarama and The Bangles)

  • @Kardi32 I disagree, The Bangles were grittier and could play instruments. Banarama's voices sound like breathy horn instruments.

  • They would be slaughtered by the judges on X Factor Or BGT today. But rememeber thaT 80S AD? 'You can't sing, you can't dance...YOU'LL go a long way!'

  • @jimdivax Agreed! The reason Banarama had no identifiable lead singer is that none of them could sing lead.

  • @eustenopteron1 Just once, there was a lead. In the rare b-side "Ghost" Karen sings lead... a very fragile lead but a lead it was. I like the song, but she wouldn't last in a singing contest with Annie Lennox.... still I like their sound!

  • @jimdivax have you heard One Direction? Simon blows so much smoke up their collective backsides they'll come down with cancer of the ass before they hit puberty. Even Bananarama had more harmonies then them. Plus they were cool. Yeah it took three of them to come up with one voice, but it's what they did with it that counts. They never pretended to be more than they were, and they had great material.

  • Damn they where soo cute.

  • i also think they were top crumpet, siobhan was my favourite but i like them all now. chinese slippers were the footwear of the day , 2 quid a pair from port talbot market.

  • LOL you can tell Sara's totally trashed at 1:25.

  • It's said that Terry Hall discovered these girls when he came across them in a magazine. Been there done that!

  • @christschinwon like it mate!!made me laugh

  • Has to be a pastiche of the specials ghost town when they are in the car. Could just be a coincidence though.

  • this is great, i love their amateurish vocals. who wants that soul shit?

  • I love this version better,,, bananarama rocks!!! Hellz,,, I love any girl groups from the 80's

  • to each his own but I prefer bananarama's version. For one it's the 1st version I heard. 2nd, this version has a smooth ska feel to it which I love, I'm sure the velvelettes are much better singers but it's not as smooth as bananarama's, I don't want to hear loud vocals all the time, something silky ska smooth is what I prefer at times

  • This is truly AWFUL

    - a poorly copied backing track, terrible LIMP vocals from women who were chosen for their looks rather than their voices. FLAT and DULL.

If you are under 35 and think THIS is what 'oldies' is all about, please check out the the Velvelettes ORIGINAL Motown version of this song

  • not a big fan of the motown sound i like bananrama's version better.

  • @enwitmol sorry mate ... but have you had a taste bypass

    ???

  • Weird but great Collabo with 3 of the members of The Specials. Also they collaborated on The way That You Do It.

  • Checkout Velvellettes versison; so much better; this stinks!

  • All 3 of em were hot !

Siobhan was my fave though !

Fun Boy 3 were cool too !

  • Siobhan is so stylish! Keirin (sp) & Sarah, while beautiful, look sort of awkward. Siob is a natch.

  • @3rdstreetmaniac *Keren(sorry)

  • @nobbilc Siobhan's a bitch! She's the reason they went down the toilet! She left and it ruined everything! I will NEVER forgive her!

  • @dccircuitboy, I don't know much about Bananarama but how did her departure ruin everything?

  • they couldnt really be bothered to make an effort with their moves here LOL

And they r back with Love Comes.

  • lol.

Reason number 109685839 why i love them so much.

  • I love Bananarama...always have,always will

  • For those of you who think this video is poor, just turn on MTV any timeof the day.

    PURE CRAP on today.

At least they had talent, words to a song and a meoldy.

  • What's a a meoldy? Check out The Velvellettes

  • Im from Windsor and grew up with MOTOWN so know the original version by the Velvellettes.

  • Too right.

  • THE 80s RULE!

  • Where does this video come from?, at the end someone is speaking as if it was a documentary

  • It's from a Bananarama greatest hits collection. I have it on VHS. I recommend it. The speaking voice in the collection is intended to be comedic.

  • wow cutting edge video lol !!

  • Bananarama outgrew the Fun Boy 3 to be one of the biggest girl bands of the 80s.

  • Love the special video effects. So 80s.

  • wow, can't believe it was so long ago lol :)

  • I think the fun boy 3 are there for promotional purposes only, i mean to be honest they dont do a lot

  • Anybody have the version they used to play on KROQ?

  • thx for posting-i was singing this to the old lady the other day-i remember dancing in the club to this back in the day-I remember watching this vid on Mtv-i always dug fun boy 3 and bananrama-what was the one where the fun boy 3 dude climbed that rope on stage-man, I remember what an athletic feat that was-anyone know?

  • this is shocking........

  • Man, for an '80s video, this is really lame. Some classics, like the Velvelettes version, should NOT be tampered with!

  • Check out the original by all an girl goup dubbed the Vellvitas. IT'S HOT!

  • well said stooge

  • I never understood the Fun Boy Three addition.

In any event, I always wanted to ramma-my-banana into Bananarama. Any one of them. Or all three of them. Minus Fun Boy Three, of course.

  • Terry Hall and Fun Boy Three gives it some credibility. I guess it was just a follow-up collaboration to 'It Aint What You Do'.

  • FB3 gave them their break on Aint What U do - unheard of before..

  • Peep Fun Boy Three!

  • GIRL POWER!

  • I was only 12 at the time but still know all the words lol. Thank God?Ullah for Youtube.

  • and also why do these tits break in and F it up???

  • They sound like back up singers, keep waiting for the lead vocals

  • Haha!, That´s exactly what a U.S.A. music critic said about them, I think in a Billboard magazine. They were fun.

  • love em who is the dolt

  • They were fun and it was great they were not perfect like todays girl groups

  • Dont think so I think the way modern groups over harmonise their way through songs shows a lack of good taste.

Whats wrong with just harmony on the chorous lines?

  • Wow! Better get on the phone and let all the choirs in the world know that they can do without most of their singers: you only ever need ONE person to sing one melody, right?

By the way, where did you hear that they were bitches? I never knew that.

  • You didn't know they were bitches? Well, you better get on the phone...bitch! LOL

Do you know what these women have in common: Pat Benetar, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Gloria Estefan? They were women that were smart enough and talented enough that they didn't need 1, 2 or more women to sing the same thing they're singing. Oh, and make 3x the amount of money.

BTW - If there's only 1 person in a group, it's not a choir, ya dumb cunt. That's what ya said...dumb cunt.

  • 24Lancelot, well that's me told! We're lucky we have your mature, considered opinions to sort out the world.

But no; I think the eloquent abuse is what YOU said, not what I said.

Yes, only 1 person does constitute a choir; I said nothing to indicate that it did. Reading and understanding gets easier with practice.

  • I"m glad you allow someone to have opinions. I guess that's what the "reply" link is for, huh? Nice it took you 2 months to reply, too. See you Valentine's Day! Now, if you could have only replied about my question.

  • I left out a 'not'. I meant to say "...only 1 person does NOT constitute a choir" My sloppiness there gave more opportunity for misunderstanding so I apologise.

I didn't say I allow people to have opinions, that would be silly, and your mention of it makes no sense. People reply when they reply; I found this again and decided to give you a chance as we're all just trying to find our way. I replied to the original comment. I can't see any questions from you apart from the rhetorical ones.

  • ktpj is right about what you hear first is your preference.good song this but the hair--hey it was the 80s.great decade!

  • Directed by Midge Ure I believe!

  • amazing!

  • I bet they DIE when they see the hair in this vid...although my friend Emma's mum had hair like Sara in this video...I like this song very much...and the little dance

  • good song cheesy video !

  • fun boy 3

  • I like this but my favorite is the original by the Velvelettes. It's an interesting comparison. Consider listening to both. This is sultry while the Velvelettes rock and bring down the proverbial house. I think our preferences are often the performances we hear first and associate with context at the time. Thanks for posting.

  • Couldn't agree with you more!!! Remakes are okay, but certainly it all depends in what kind of mood you are when you listen to it!!! In my case, I loved Cyndi Lauper's I Drove All Night and many people loved Celine Dion's!!!

  • I haven't heard this song since public radio WDET used to play it.(Question)Does anyone remember the name of the band that one of the members of BananaRama formed?? If so,please let me know.Thanks.(P.S. She performed it one night on David Letterman.)

  • shakespear's sister

  • The band´s name is Shakespeare Sister, formed by Siobhan Fahey, who left Bananarama in 1988.

  • i miss these uk babes

    beatlebum1965 aka its only me..anth;)

  • was that keren who got pinched

  • I remember this song from the movie 'Valley Girl'

  • IMPRESSIVE.

  • FB3 relegated to backing singers is a bit shameful. Great song though.

  • lol @ 1:09

  • i like siobahn best

  • i wanted to be her! until she married the eurythmics guy. :|

  • Good Lord, i'm 14 again!! Thanks for posting this.

  • Bad bad hair!!!!

But all the mum's when I was at first school had that kind of hair

  • They used to be fun boy threes backing group, when they became popular it was turned around as you can see.

  • If the millennium had its way, it would interrupt all performances with Randy, Paula, and Simon's critiques. The 2000s suck.

  • This was initially on the soundtrack for "Valley Girl". Evidently when they released the film on VHS/DVD, they cut this song. Too bad.

  • wow I saw a video of them performing this song on american bandstand and it was in 1983 wow the us is slow when it comes to music lol

  • we had an 80's disco and heard this song its gravy as tracy off big bruva wud say

  • Bananarama = Legends.

  • i love this song when it first came out. Now when i look at it Fun Boy Three sounds like the name of a gay porno movie

  • Lol, sure does!

  • Oh my god. What year is this? 1981 or 1982? Its very old and its first time im seeing.

  • One of the first videos that I ever saw by the girls and I fell in love with them IMMEDIATELY! This was their second collaberation with Fun Boy Three, I believe. Truly GREAT!
