Hi everybody. Things are only legal until enough people hate you for doing them, then they pass a law to make it illegal. If you piss enough people off with rude behavior, you'll suddenly find yourself on the wrong side of the line. This isn't just my opinion, this is reality.

@deltaray3 That's not really a good comparison. If I cut in line at a coffee shop, everybody behind me would have to wait longer. Cutting traffic on a bike is different because bikes accelerate from a dead stop much faster than a car. Light turns green, bike immediately takes off, he's several hundred feet away before the car behind him even starts moving. Nobody gets delayed, but some drivers are angered because it "seems" unfair.
@W1LDwanderer Totally agree with you, man. I filter with caution and I don't go over the speed limit in areas with schools, hospitals or a lot of people on the streets. But when the light turns green how stupid would it be for me to keep my F4 in the middle of the traffic?

Lane-splitting actually IS legal in California, but you correct. You get a considerable amount of freedom to bend the rules on a bike that you don't in a car. It is a double-standard and that does upset a lot of drivers. "Fairness" is kind of irrelevant. We get to speed and pay less for gas/insurance, but you stay dry when it rains.

Anyone who uses their vehicle as a weapon against a motorcycle is guilty of a criminal felony. I ride with a video cam 100% of the time due to ignorant people getting angry because of my filtering and think they can hit me with their car. Don't be stupid and try to kill a motorcyclist....

A tip from a long time rider, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP JACKING WITH YOUR CAMERA. If the camera records, it records. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Every time you fuck with it you are distracting yourself from possible road hazards.
@W1LDwanderer I've only been riding for about 8 years. Sorry if that's an insignificant amount of time in your eyes to have been around the block, seen a lot, done a lot, and still be alive. But if you don't think visibility is important, and keeping yourself as a rider undistracted is unimportant, then bon voyage. My point wasn't trolling, my point is always safety when riding.

There are differing schools of thought on motorcycle safety and apparently ours are polar opposites :) Point is I ride in a way that I feel safe.

@hedgehogoggles People tend to get hot when you split lanes past them, especially if it's city traffic (such as at a stop light) or stopped/crawling freeway traffic. I've had people pull over a little bit, wait until my rear tire is at their front fender and swing their car violently at me. Using the enticement of the carrot to get within striking distance.
I think it's primarily just large cities and the metro areas. Everyone has to be somewhere right now and damn you if you get there first.

I really don't see why people get so pissed off when bikes filter a lane. 90% of cars take a quarter mile to get to a 40mph speed limit(at least when I am behind someone at a light) And bikes normally take off pretty quick without even trying. So it doesn't affect anyone, big deal. Bicycles and mopeds on the other hand...

@GixxerSgt I see cars making more erratic moves then bikers. My concern is for the rider and for the mom or dad driving kids home from school only to witness someone not looking out for bikes and hits one. The kids and parent are traumatized by seeing the head leave the body of the biker, when he collides with a sign post. I get passed all day, I don't mind. If you get to the mall 5 minutes before I do I will be okay with that, I'm an adult. Ride Safe and AWARE.
I feel your pain bro. I live in socal, arguably the most selfish part of the western hem. I've only been riding since this June and have been amazed how people are. So far, I've been tail-gated numerous times...I don't know if it's co-incidence, but they've all been women...my wife can attest to it first-hand. Ran out of my lane because the person didn't see me. I will say this, however, it has made me an even better driver! I REALLY watch people and where their attention is.

Pretty much everything happened the way I said. I call a guy out for talking on the phone, he stops and yells. The woman in the white car hit 90 following about 10 feet from my rear wheel, and the fat dude did brake check me. At the same time, I totally allowed all these things to happen. Like the woman in the white car. I cold have blown her away, or better yet, slowed down.

I'm pretty sure it says "Ducati" on his gas tank. At no point did I make a generalization that the average person rides a Ducati. Despite that fact, your average 600CC sportbike is still going to run you about $10,000+; that's if you get it new. Shit, the KLX 250 costs $4,000 on sale.

A tip from a long time rider, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP JACKING WITH YOUR CAMERA. If the camera records, it records. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Every time you fuck with it you are distracting yourself from possible road hazards.

But if you don't think visibility is important, and keeping yourself as a rider undistracted is unimportant, then bon voyage. My point wasn't trolling, my point is always safety when riding.

There are differing schools of thought on motorcycle safety and apparently ours are polar opposites :) Point is I ride in a way that I feel safe.

Can't see anything wrong with any of your manoeuvres - they area all pretty mild compared with what's allowed in the UK. Just using a bike as it should be used - to make progress and exploit its natural advantages.

@hedgehogoggles People tend to get hot when you split lanes past them, especially if it's city traffic (such as at a stop light) or stopped/crawling freeway traffic. I've had people pull over a little bit, wait until my rear tire is at their front fender and swing their car violently at me. Using the enticement of the carrot to get within striking distance.
I think it's primarily just large cities and the metro areas. Everyone has to be somewhere right now and damn you if you get there first.

I really don't see why people get so pissed off when bikes filter a lane. 90% of cars take a quarter mile to get to a 40mph speed limit(at least when I am behind someone at a light) And bikes normally take off pretty quick without even trying. So it doesn't affect anyone, big deal. Bicycles and mopeds on the other hand...

My concern is for the rider and for the mom or dad driving kids home from school only to witness someone not looking out for bikes and hits one. The kids and parent are traumatized by seeing the head leave the body of the biker, when he collides with a sign post. I get passed all day, I don't mind. If you get to the mall 5 minutes before I do I will be okay with that, I'm an adult. Ride Safe and AWARE.

I feel your pain bro. I live in socal, arguably the most selfish part of the western hem. I've only been riding since this June and have been amazed how people are. So far, I've been tail-gated numerous times...I don't know if it's co-incidence, but they've all been women...my wife can attest to it first-hand. Ran out of my lane because the person didn't see me. I will say this, however, it has made me an even better driver! I REALLY watch people and where their attention is.

The woman in the white car hit 90 following about 10 feet from my rear wheel, and the fat dude did brake check me. At the same time, I totally allowed all these things to happen.
