  • Holy afterbirth

  • Aww what a cute little beluga!! RIP

  • I feel like i just got done watching a lady gaga music video

  • ewwwwwwwwwwwwww wut the fuck is that!!!!!!!!11

  • This is now my new fetish.

  • So wonderful! I love how captive bred species are able to sustain themselves rather than their wild counterparts taken. Not only that, I bet a baby whale is a great tourist attraction! And the funds go straight back into the care of the animals! :)

  • I waz there and I also went to a overnight sleep ova and slept by them

  • esseri magici

  • holy shit did u see that blood!

  • wow that is amazing! i've never seen a beluga birth

  • Did she eat mexican food?

  • R.I.P <3 lil sweety xoxox we miss you here in Vancouver <3

  • awwww bless im going to interact with one of these in august at seaworld orlando :) x

  • That is so cute.

  • @SaveCetaceansNOW I used to agree with you, but if these animals are reproducing in captivity, they cannot be deprived of anything. It is simple animal instinct. They do not start to think about reproduction if they haven't, themselves, been in the tip top condition.

  • so blood comes out too?

  • This baby was born kn my bday!

  • That's disturbing

  • @Onna1rox1 How is it disturbing?

  • aww its so cuuuteee

  • Tiqa is just such a wonderful name for the baby beluga.-sigh- Congratulation to the family that is the winner for Tiqa!! you guys rock!!

  • yay!! but ow....

  • Soooo awesome. I got to see this baby beluga on my honeymoon to Vancouver in Aug. 2008. Saw it again on The Today show (today) too. Beautiful.

  • that was amazing!!!

  • Go Vancouver!

  • omfg:O:O

  • wow !

  • holy shit that thing poped out like it was easy

  • CHEERS!!!!!

  • Thank you for showing this. I've never seen baby animals actually born, so it's nice to see it on here. I would love to see it for real someday.

  • im doubting my eyes, the baby grew in size for just matter of minutes?

  • well, if you were being shoved through a narrow tube for a minute I'm sure you'd inflate once out. that's why new born babies look puffy because they've been squeezed down to a smaller scale that normally would kill an adult.

  • terrific

  • Wow!!! Cool!!

  • I JUST LOVE LIVING IN VANCOUVER@!

  • how cuteee...

  • kinda like a dolphin

  • amazing!

  • aww its adorable!!!!!!!

  • Looks messy. So after she gave birth did you move them to a dirffrent tank so you could clean out all the blood stuff?

  • Comment removed

  • so cuute! what is the baby's name?

  • Qila's baby (the baby in this video) is named Tiqa

  • that moma beluga is older than me by exactly 5 months !! my birthday is november 23 1995 :)

  • And to think ... Tiqa's just 3 days shy of her 1st birthday and now there is another little calf (In a weird relationship between Tiqa and the new calf - they'd be aunt and niece)

  • quila mom is pregnant not quila. she do any day

  • Congrats Qila!!!!!!

  • you are.

  • Is it normal or a bad thing for the mom to swim away like that right after it comes out?

  • That was so beautiful! what if humans were swimming in a pool while having birth?! EEWW

  • PUUUUUUUUUSHHH!!! lmao xD but serisouly that is amazing, the miracle of life!

  • Waw, what a great moment for you guys!

  • It's amazing how it instinctively goes to the surface for a breath.

  • u copied off the screen

  • Wow...

  • Just Incredible.

  • That is right, Orkidfan. Fluke-first biths are more common because it gives time for the flukes to stiffen. Nice work!

  • I heard it was so they didn't drown, cause you know, if they were born head first it'd take a little while for the first breath and then, well, yeah.

  • cute

  • I got emotional and confess - I cried!!!

    BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Hey VanAqua, what are the rules and regulations for naming the calf?

I'm not sure how/if I'm allowed to enter, but I would love it if the little girl was called Anja (AHN-yah)- Beautiful and popular.

  • thats so cooooll!!

  • OH! How sweet! :D

  • I was there and saw the baby be born, it was soo cool!!!!

  • And I'm jealous. :P

I think it was really cool how well both aquarium staff and Mom handled the new birth. I guess either knows that they only want the best for the baby and they are able to trust each other.

  • Congratulations to mama and v.a. staff! and E Komo Mai (welcome) to baby! Aloha

  • é lindo demais :)

  • I would just like to say this is breathtaking.. Also, on my birthday, I got to take the Beluga tour behind the scenes thing, forget what it's called.. (and the otters) and for anyone thinking about it, I would honestly say that it was the coolest thing I think I've ever done..

So yeah, call it a plug, call it whatever. I just want to say thanks to the Aquarium for such a great experience.. And this baby's darn cute too, eh? :p

  • Congratulations to Qila and everyone at the Vancouver Aqiarum.

I am an old Membership holder and I use to visit at least three times a month, I would go everyday if I could have. I plan on getting another yearly membership in the next few months. I miss hanging out with the belugas.

It is so much fun to watch the new little baby beluga on the webcam. I keep sining Rafi's Baby Beluga song in my head over and over again.

ps. I think the new baby should be named Trevor Linden :)

  • che fantastica cosa è la vita...

  • Congratulations to Qila and the Vancouver Aquarium!

  • cute baby

  • cool how it already knows how to swim!

  • I'm happy that a new life was born and people got to see it, but it feels kinda weird cuz she/he was born in an aquarium where she/he might have to stay for the rest of his/her life.

  • better than being eaten in the ocean by a shark?

  • omg my class was just there on friday june 6! and i was soo excited to see her first birth!!

  • thats so cool! but it was kinda wierd the way the beluga was swimmin around with the baby hanging out lol!

  • Cool!

lol it was all wrinkly when it first came out

  • Awesome i cant wait to go to the aquarium to see it

  • I actually spent time with Qila....After Tuvaq passed, I'm happy the aquarium has a new youngster...

  • I wonder if she was stressed by the lack of privacy and sounds? I know when I gave birth it required a lot of focus and you feel you want to retreat somewhat during such a profound moment in a life.

  • I was there the day Qila was born.

  • neat!

  • Aww she is adorable. Can't wait to see her next time we go in.

  • congrats!!

  • Oh wow! That was amazing!!! So beautiful :) I wish I could come and see the belugas again :( Such wonderful creatures, I can't believe that they're endangered! :(

  • Oh wow! They are so floppy when they are first born, that is adorable! Thank you for sharing!

    Congratz mama Qila!

  • aw EW GROSS!!! UUUHHGHGHH!!

    WOW AWESOME! cool...

Hopefully construction starts very soon on the expanded beluga space, the whales are going to need it!

  • awesome

  • Yes, it's a girl!!

  • Welcome baby to the world !!

Yes, it's a girl, they can already tell even in this early age. The name hasn't been decided yet, there will be a public contest to it, and Camtrout, that's amazing that your daughter got to celebrate with Qila !!!

  • cool

    building 7

  • Oh My gosh that was so cool. What's the baby's name ? What does bouncing beluga mean? congratz Qila !!!

  • How wonderfully exciting! My daughter, also born on July 23, 1995; just an hour and minutes from Qila, was invited by the Vancouver Aquarium to celebrate their 5th birthday together and the two of us were sprayed by Aurora in celebration. I'm sure she will always remember that day. It was so thoughtful of the Aquarium to include Marcie. She has always felt Qila was her sister, now she feels like an Aunt. Congratulations!

  • Congratulations Vancouver Aquarium and Quila of course. I remember watching her when she was just born! Cudoos to the Marine Mammal Staff!

  • Congraulations Vancouver Aqaurium

  • I give my congrats to Quila and the Vancouver Aquarium staff

  • How amazing to have been watching Qila today while we had the Kindergartens visiting for a field trip. The children were able to be there for the excitment around her and see the baby fluke as she was having contractions. I wish we could have stayed to wait out the birth but it was not possible. Thanks for posting this video as we'll show the class tomorrow morning. Hope the calf and momma are doing alright. What a day for these kids to remember.

  • I was so lucky..I was there!! Congrats Qila!!

  • Congrats to Qila and the calf, hope all goes well.

  • So amazing! It was wonderful being able to see the birthing process and the calf so soon after birth! Unfortunately I missed the birth itself by 30 minutes. Grats Qila!

  • YAY FOR QUILA!! i saw her a few weeks ago!
