I hear a voice steeped with the best of Tom Jones and Chris Rea, but with the sense to back off and almost whisper at times. The guitar work is so natural, and full of character. Exactly where Blues guitar should take you. He doesn't try too hard, it comes easy - I wish it did for me!
I had that LP (with this picture on it) . It had a song on it called The Change which is still one of my fave tunes. I do not remember this one though. It's pure Tony alright.
Where have I been? Thought Tony was a one-hit-wonder! (Polk Salad Annie) BOY, was I wrong! Coming to party 40 years late, but better late than never. What fantastic songs and an awesome voice!
@toyotaphil54 same as you. First heard of him in 1974 through Rory Gallagher when he did When the Crow flies. But until last week I never heard Tony Joe. What a pleasure this has been.
Were at his concert in Oslo in September. He was looking quite feed up and tired. I prefer to remember him from his earlier days. Large parts of his music is just fantastic! This song is his best in my opinion!!! Go TJW:-)
WOW ! I heard the last bit of this tune in a bar on a canal in Amsterdam when I was on honeymoon with my wife 15 yrs ago. I have been trying to figure out since then what the name of it was, I stumbled onto it yesterday, thx You Tube.
Folks - I've been into Tony Joe for 39 years and play his music all the time, even after all that time.Sometimes his older stuff, sometimes his newer stuff, but you always get quality, originality and so different, individual, music.Try his web site and listen to some of his older stuff and you'll be amazed as to why he's not one of the biggest artists around. He's even better live.Sings anything the audience wants. He's in London in September.
wow, awsome song! I've never heard music like this before! I know I am tried of what's going on musically and i've been looking for something good and different and I think I found it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew he was a great song writer but I never heard this song. It just proves what I always thought. This man can write the most beautiful insightfull songs

This song was generated by a jingle, Tony Joe White and Neal Selman wrote for Levis 501 jeans in 1986.

Yeah, thanks! Tony has got to be one of the most underrated artists ever, IMHO. I feel a bit like Rip VanWinkle just waking up. :)

What a terrific perfomer TJW is. There is no such thing as a bad Tony Joe White song.

This is very similar to Chris Rea song. His voice and guitar style is almost the same. Very nice though.
