I ve ridden 1000's of miles on my Honda Varadero 125. never had any accidents no near misses. I will never be able to do this test because i just can not do tests. Its too much pressure. Its a shame as i will never ride a bike bike. CBT for me for life.
the only thing i would add that when i took my 18 months ago when i had finshed all of the manovers, and he went to open the gate he picked me up for not doing a lifesaver when i pulled away to go out of the gate,so make sure you do your lifesvers all the time-specially when you have passed your test!He did pass me but i had a lecture for it reckon he was a ex copper.
very very nice video, i dont need to take classes after watching this vid, i want to ask one question, which test is easy to pass? DAS or A2 ? i am over 21 and i am entitled to DAS, i am taking A2 cuz i think it is easy to pass
@alainhardy27 ALL motorcycle tests are pretty much identical, the only difference being the size of bike that you take it on and how old you are.
Remember you can only take yourself to test on a 125cc, if you want to take a test on anything bigger than this you can only ride whilst accompanied by a DSA Instructor!
If you only want to ride a 250cc or similar I we would suggest the Standard test (A2) if you want to ride any size then DAS. Good luck with it, let us know how you get on.
this is not the same as my test, in the slow control part the examiner was walking in front of me and i had to stay behind his clip board and i never did a run round the circuit and then just stopped, it was the swerve and avoid where the front wheel had to be inside the bow of cones and then the emergency stop
but all in all i think its a pretty good video and i watched it thinking how rubbish i was when i first started as i could only just about do it but now its nothing to me
@chrisabrahamsson yes, this video takes into account the slight changes that were put in place for May 2011, you took yours before then? You are right in what seemed difficult then is easy for you to do now that you have some more miles under your belt :-)
@ARTMCT ok i hadnt realise there were an changes, i toke my mod 1 in july 2010 on the restricted access and yes i have over 25,000 miles under my belt now and its amazing to think how much i have improved, im not pro infact nowhere near but comparing me to how i was when i started im the best rider in the world and i dont think they should of passed me thats how bad i was, ive now done bike safe and am in the process of doing the iam and thank you for such a quick reply :)
@highlanders1745 ALL steering at speed on a motorcycle will involve counter steering, whether or not you use passive or active steering will all depend on how fast you want the bike to change direction, its really simple, push left to make the bike go left or push right when you want to go right, the only time you actually steer the bike in the direction you want to go is when performing figure of 8's or U-Turns at walking pace in 1st gear.
Great video i had a practice run today for mod 1 and totally messed up ,only had 4 hrs practice on a geared bike and always forget on a emergency stop should i use front brake and then back brake .As for mod 2 i'm pretty confident my instructor said im okay but this mod 1 really freaks me out.
@ARTMCT I passed my mod 1 today on the 1 st attempt and only got 1 minor ,"RESULT" lol.I feel i must thank you for puttin such a well made video on and without watchin this i know i would never of passed it.I do have a good instuctor but this video helped me massively ,once again thank you !!!
Nerves are always present when doing something new, especially in front of someone who is watching or marking you! glad you passed thou, hope you are enjoying it :-)
@ARTMCT Thank you so much, I'm enjoying my little CBF125. but I need to get a full licence to have a chance at my dream job as a motorcycle courier :)
really good video. I will be watching it quite a bit in the near future.
@DazzyGames keep up the practice you will need all the help you can get if you want to be a courier...thats one tough job, you have to have eyes in the back of your head even more so than usual! :-)
I used to be able to do all these manouveurs when practicing by myself, and ride fine when by myself for mod 2 but as soon as i was with an examiner, the nerves got to me!
@leebee1989 before they changed the format in may 2011, yes the examiner used to walk beside you and you weren't supposed to pass him, but since the changes they only watch you ride the bike as if you are riding in slow moving traffic.
Remember slow moving traffic can speed up and slow down, so if you do ride like this on the test you will not be marked down for it, you do not always have to be behind the examiner, if you have any doubt ask a qualified motorcycle instructor or examiner. :-)
great instructional video of what to expect in mod 1,
my mate has just passed his direct access, and has said he will give me some practice on a homemade laid out course on tescos carpark, this vid really helps with what is expected from the rider and the standard to achieve.
@MrBullbrand Yes Module 1 came into force in April 2009 but the maneuvers and speeds were "Tweaked" in May 2011 after nearly two years of campaigning by industry for a common sense approach to the MPH/KPH debate...
@theberengersniper You can achieve 48/49kph on both the emergency stop and avoidance elements and you will pass but pick up one minor point/driver error mark for each, but bear in mind you are only allowed 5 in total on the mod 1!
If you do 47 kph or less he will ask you to have another go (maximum of two attempts)
Great video, thanks for taking the time to do it. I have my mod 1 test next week and am trying to swat up on what's required! If you don't attain 50kph does he ask you to do it again, or simply mark you up as a fail or minor?
@tassr1 you only need to stop with your front wheel inbetween the four blue cones on the controlled stop excerise, which is the first time around & is not speed timed.
For the emergency stop the examiner will give you the signal to stop and you will usually stop well before the blue cones.
For the collision avoidance there is NO set stopping distance, as long as the bike returns to its original course.
at 6;7 mins he stops in front of the blue cones ... i was told you have to stop in between the bule cones..is this true or shall i stop where he stoped in the video?
50 Kph is the target speed to achieve (31.06 Mph) however since the test was "tweaked" in May of this year you can now do 48 Kph (29.85 Mph) and still pass both the Controlled stop as if in an emergency and the collision avoidance manouver, but you will incur 1 minor point.
