  • The democrat caller at 6:30 bemoans that health care is not a commodity that you can buy and sell. She wants it to be free. She makes the ubiquitous mistake made by soooo many people who are clueless about economics. NOTHING is free. EVERYTHING costs. EVERYTHING is bought & sold in some way. Competition drives prices down. Cell phones aren't eye surgery either, but competition still works there. If it didn't, many people would be BLIND because gov't health care often won't pay for it.

  • "You think health care is expensive now, wait until it's free."

  • Pro Choice, is a crime and evil, and thank you Rand Paul for being Pro Life!

  • That caller is a stupid bitch... How can anyone be that stupid? Medical supplies are commodities. The doctors provide a service. How do you have an infinite or guaranteed right to either of those? They have to come from somewhere. They don't materialize from the "ether".

  • you had me up to the point of pro-life

  • he is also pro states choice.

he is running for federal government.

  • yes I am aware of his position,

but in my opinion the existence of a pro-life stance is potentially dangerous for future generations

the re-occurrence of an abolition of abortions in the US is no something i could encourage.

everything else however i pretty much agree with.

  • not really. dont you find it funny that a doctor would be against abortion?

im all for choice, so is he, and his idiology is that its your free right to choose, which is a level above anyone one else running.

  • I like Ron and Rand Paul's brand of republicanism with its emphasis on small government at home and noninterventionism overseas---It's leave us alone republicanism.

  • @sleedolfine15 Ron and Rand are Libertarian, not Republican.

  • @residentzombie Actually, they're both. Their political philosophy is libertarian, but their party affiliation is republican.

  • You do not have a right to healthcare

You have an obligation to your fellow man

Before Govt was involved with health care we always seemed to take care of each other

  • what's up w/ all these old ass people calling in to talk to rand? oh wait, it's cspan lol

  • that republican woman near the end was ridiculous. P.E. is a requirement in school, but that's not the problem. it's our eating habits!

  • honestly I don't know why these fake Republicans don't start their own country

Libertarians will never be happy with anything anyone else thinks - they will never realism their dream because large corporations will always run them out of town

  • Why don't you start your own country? That way you can tell every one what to do, because obviously you are suffering from some sort of God complex.

  • emergency care is the most expensive - it's preventative that needs to be covered - most emergency care in the US is not for a broken arm - it's for conic issues that can be prevented

his hearts in the right place problem is men are not angels and try to work the system no matter who's in charge - take government away and too many people have no recourse other than to take the law into their own hands

we'd end up with more cronyism, a mafia

fix what we got with strict regulations

  • or dismantle all regulations and give transfer vouchers to the very poor

  • that'll work then I can dump toxic waste in your backyard when your at work

  • Why don't you join in on it? Why are you trying to force others to join too?

  • Unfortunately he comes off as a regular Republican candidate. He needs to spend more time rebuking the Republican party and set him apart form the Neo conservatives.

His message needs to be: I am NOT a regular Republican.

Some of the callers are morons..

  • he should run as a libertarian

  • Unfortunately he would get no airtime and have a really hard time getting registered.

  • so he's willing already to give up on principles for money

gee, like we don't have enough of that already

How about a money bomb to change the laws so third parties can get on the ballot rather than this mob mentality

  • You are missing the point. It is close to impossible to run as a third party candidate. So you can stand on "principles" and go nowhere in a corrupt system, or you can run within one party and keep your principles.

  • with the lesser of two evils you always get evil and you always get less

the republicans were once a third party -

what you're telling me and all those who run as democrats or republicans and should be in a third party is you don't care enough to make change

you'd rather play and support the corruption game

    that's why nothing will change

  • You really don't know what you are talking about. First, the electoral college don't have an Independent branch. They are Democrats and Republicans. Second, every State make it near impossible to get on the ballots. You have to change it from the INSIDE, not outside. The same way FBI informant join the Mafia to expose it. Rand Paul is honest and will change whatever he can change.

  • who said anything about the electoral college?

There's more than 2 parties in this nation, you're just to lazy to get involved and change the status quo

  • I have never voted for either major party, so what are you talking about? Tell me how to change it.

  • start by changing the laws in your state for ballot access.

  • An who changed the laws? lawmakers or outsiders?

  • the democratic and republican party members

they've rigged the game - it's up to you to fix it

  • no way! He'll never win on the libertarian ticket! sad to say but our political system is VERY biased to third parties! better to go into the republican party and change it!

  • get busy then and change the laws - what's wrong with you?

you'll never be free if you don't -

you want to sit back and let someone else do it and then scratch your head and wonder why thing are the way they are

Ron Paul Ralph Nader Bob Barr..., all have said these state laws have to be changed by the people - that's you.

Rand might win on his fathers coat tails, but Schiff will have an impossible time running as a GOP- He should have taken the Ventura approach.

  • It's not really physical education, it the food that we are eating. Even in weight loss products. It ranges from weight loss products to fast foods. This country is a fast food nation. Not only that these companies uses ahletes and people who are in shape to promote their products so people can use it. In reality it makes people gain weight and become lazy. Not only that, the new world order is trying to get rid of organic foods.

  • couple great points.....When you want Gov't Health Care think FEMA. Rand also makes a good point about the free market lowering procedures like Lasic Eye Surgery, since the cost of this operation has gone down left to the free market, and generally not covered by insurance.

  • guitarland - Who says I want Gov health care? Actually I want Gov to fund it as in a single payer system.

Heard the lasik thing before, is a joke

I dont think of FEMA because that was done by Republican idealogues whose beliefs were to make Gov inefficient. Instead I think of western Europe, Canada, Japan, among others who have successful single payer type healthcare with people in Gov who actually represent the people and who make it work not deliberately try to destroy it.

  • Please tell us why the "lasik thing" is a joke.

Yes tell us why cosmetic surgery is a joke too.

    Or perhaps laser hair removal.

    Or teeth whitening.

Tell us why when competition is introduced in each of those segments, prices subsequently fall for each of those procedures.

    Enlighten us oh wise one.

  • Exploitation of one group by another can only occur with force. The State is a territorial monopoly on force, so all exploitation is endorsed by the State.

Free markets do work. All of the great things we have are due to innovative people working for a profit. Demonizing 'capitalists' is misdirected. Those men worthy of scorn are in bed with the State - their use of the State's coercion makes them NOT capitalists.

I think Peter Schiff said, "libertarian is more important than Libertarian".

  • youdont - Just pretending that only 'pure' capitalism is capitalism is just being silly. If there were suddenly a free market those with wealth would immediately trying to grow and concentrate, use the state to serve their interests and we would be right back to where we are or worse in no time. That is capitalism!

This pure version does not exist! And the places closest to a free market are a disaster because they dont work. Just claiming they do doesnt change anything.

  • Nav: What you are talking about is cartelization. Cartels cannot exist except through coercion (ie the State). Without violence, cartels collapse because there is a strong incentive for one of members to violate the agreement.

Your distrust of capitalism seems to be related to the word not the idea - at least as far as your arguments have been so far. What evidence do you have that free markets are a disaster? The computer you're looking at is strong evidence that the market works very well!

  • The government and the FED are what give corporations and "wealthy interests" the ability to steamroll over the public.

History showed us that Governments trend towards tyranny which led us to the Constitution and the foundation of the United States.

Limited Government would alleviate the ability of those involved to favor certain groups at the expense of others - as it is rampant favoritism brings rich rewards.

Equal rights and opportunities without Government interference would benefit all.

  • cm - Heard that argument before but it doesnt stand.

HIstory shows that economic interests and the state invariably are tied together. The founders did the same thing, made a Gov. for rich people, and tried to put in some safeguards but when it comes to the corruption of capitalism and wealth those meager barriers fell.

If Gov is limited but not private power as in the corporations history already showed things would get very bad, much worse than now.

Gov alone is not the problem

  • "Gov alone is not the problem"

I never said it was, but when a Government has unlimited and monopolistic power over most everything and is forcefully influential at every level of the economy (and has no regard for consequences because they've positioned themselves above the law), it becomes quite a large part of the equation.

  • Just stating "...but it doesn't stand." doesn't prove your point. You're making statements without factual evidence to backup your claims. SOURCES PLEASE.

"HIstory shows that economic interests and the state invariably are tied together." Huh. How? Why? Share your insights.

"The founders did the same thing, made a Gov. for rich people," This is news to me.

Govt. is often the cause of problems & oddly enough they profess to have all the right solutions. (Just don't blame it on them)

  • wrong dumbass stop listening to govt run schools for lessons of history

  • Rand speaks well and is very methodical but he lacks "sexy" personality so he will never be president.

  • LOL, useless point to bring up. we already know the consequences of the mass looking for american idol style entertainment in their voting behaviors. with the crisis we're facing now, it's either electing a serious person to solve problems or there won't be much of what america used to stand for left at all. seems totally pointless to me to even try to speculate along these lines.

  • it's already too late.

  • do something about it. america didn't prosper by having its founders sitting on a couch.

  • the founders are currently rolling in their graves.

  • a chip f the old block :) .

  • If health care is a right, then food should be too because no one can live without food. Hopefully, food never becomes a right.

  • He pwned that liberal woman from Reston

  • If he runs for president I will vote for him>

  • I wish our Senators were like Rand Paul.

  • Rand Paul has so much common sense.

  • @jamesbutabi of course because he is the son of Ron Paul. And both are straightfoward & look at the facts of the issues not the rhetoric & bull

  • Great segment. CSPAN is awesome!!

  • So your dad left ignorant comments on YouTube too??

  • They don't believe in bailing out private businesses yet they will bend over backwards on behalf of the private insurance companies?
