@xSteler the "H" and "U" model AC-130's have them, both also have 40mm bofors cannons, the "U" model also has a 25mm Gatling gun while the "H" no longer mounts Gatling guns. there is also the MC-130W that has a modified 20mm bushmaster cannon and a missile strike package, the new MC-130J with just a precision strike package, and there a rumors that the next gunship the AC-130W will have a 120mm (similar to the one used on the Abrams) to replace the 105

I used to live by, and some of my family still does, a drop zone for the C-130s in Arkansas. They fly over in a line 3-6 at a time. No big deal in Arkansas... Now, i have had an AC-130 do (what i call) a death circle around me once.Have also had a pair of Cobras and a 3 point formation of A-10s fly by close and I have even had a B-52 fly over me at treetop level once when i was 12.

@dinoenthusiastguy Well you see SAMs would almost have no effect considering the AC-130 is jam packed with flares and counter measures, also as quickly as the SAM is spotted it would be gone because they would pummel the crap out of it. Now the military confirms that they have no air support available or they wouldn't send the gunship. Least of all the U.S. Would not develop a multi- million dollar aircraft to have it be useless.

I was watching some documentary on operations in Afghanistan. The Taliban were deathly afraid of this particular aircraft, because it is like a fortress perched in the air...with so much observation equipment it can detect any movement in an area and quickly dispatch them. The Taliban people were like...it's time to hide and they would hide for HOURS even though they couldn't hear it anymore.

It was OK in 'nam, when you had no idea where the enemy was hiding, but in an age of infrared cameras, precision missiles, and spy drones, I see this as a "flying fossil".

@codfanful The difference is in its armament. The Spooky has 2 miniguns and 1 Bofor canon while the spectre has a Howitzer, A bofor, and a minigun.
