For a challenging course, that is a very fast pace, even today you'd have to be an elite level skier. Fast skis are important, but there are many other factors - skill, technique, fitness, fuel, training, strategy, to name a few.
@MrHokieson I've checked results of this race and Kevin Brochman took 47th place. He was solid skier in USA team, so he skiied many, many times with Gunde. Regards for Kevin from Poland :)
