on speed test websites it says my dl speed is 5 mb but on torrent clients and web browsers my dl speed goes to 700 kbs max anyone know why that is?

One thing that I would recommend is using a speed test different than your ISP. I was having some connection problems (getting 5MB/s upload on 20MB/s advertised) and I tried my ISP's speed test. It said that I was getting the full 20MB/s. About 5 other speed tests showed 5MB/s. Just saying that it might be handy that your ISP has the tools, but they might not work as good as 3rd party tools.

I have a router that connects to my computer using Ethernet and then the router connects to the phone socket via ADSL and my broaband said they will be upgrading me to fibre optic or something.

its absolutly fine, just try to make sure its the same make and type of ram you are using all together.

using different types of ram at any given time can possibly cause problems and mess with your system performance.

it should be ok, but bare in mind that you wont get full performance from it that way.

i use all the same brand aswell to be on the safe side, but you shouldnt have have any problems as long as its the same spec.

have you got 2gb the same and 1gb different?

are you on wireless? if you are make sure that you not on 802.11b. make sure you get a 802.11g router

no, I'm using the internet directly from a cable. I try to get support several times and tweak a lot of settings on my own, just none of them work. It's probably something wrong with the line as other people in the same area has ridiculously slow internet as well...

Dude, you are VERY SCREWED.....I had that problem too on Vista...I tried with the disks but nothing helped.....Luckily, it was still in warranty, so they gave me a new one because the prob was in the disk itself...If your is also in the warranty, wait no more.....go get a new one....
