nah, they won't just peel off his face, they'll either take him in to processing and liquify him to be turned into Stroyent or they will take him into a medical bay and Stroggify him, cutting off limbs, and replacing them with robotic ones, and also nail and graft on metal plates to replace his flesh. both are very painful procedures, one has no survival chance the other has a high survival chance.

The person was probably talking about the Plasma Canon in Duke Nukem 64, Which did have a similar effect to the BFG, except it shot blue energy. Duke Nukem 3D had that Ice beam gun.

I liked the movie, the pinky monster, the hell baron and the imp (if that tongue spitting thing was that...), but I missed the satanic symbols, candles, rituals, lost souls and things like that.
