i'm glad i'm not the only!! i too have been trying to decide between these 3 bikes for awhile now. however, even though the zx10r is a great bike, i'd rather not get it because it's still a kawasaki and they're a dime a dozen, just like honda, yamaha and suzuki. i'd rather not get something that everyone else has. the local bmw dealer has sold its last s1000rr so it looks like i'll most likely get the 1198.

If you seriously wanting something different and something that stands out, buy a Aprilla RSV-4. A V-4 will change your opinion about any other engine type you have ridden and the sound it creates is unmatched.
@Stavrosqq -- so bikes out of Japan are perfect? You'd better not tell that to owners of '08 - '10 Honda CBR1000RR's! (They burn oil!) And Kawi had to recall the 2011 ZX10 to fix some top-end problems, too, (-this was well-publicized). Hell, even my own FZ1 needed a motor rebuild for a rod bearing failure, (and I changed her oil often). Yet even with these issues, I agree that Japanese motorcycles tend to be more refined than [most] of their European counterparts. But the gap is shrinking.

@Duc1198YamR1 -- Hey, Honda has it's problems just like any other company no offence taken. A nice bike is a nice bike period end. All 3 bikes: the kawi, the duc, and BMW, are gorgeous to me. Personally, I'd go for an R1 or RSV4, though.
The 1198 SP is realllly nice too.... (it comes with everything). So many choices out there--you really can't go wrong. Hell, they have new 2010 GSXR1000's on sale here--I'd take one of those in a heartbeat, too. For me cost is also a factor.

Kawi might be easier on the pockets but you cant go wrong with that or the BMW. the kawi was a little more comfy on my wrists than the BMW though. My choice would be the Kawi.
Go with your heart man they are both good bikes. I saw the BMW in person at a coffee shop and it looked assume. A lot smaller than expected and the owner said it's on par with a ducati.
The BMW will make you more distinguished on the street. The Ducati looks like the 1198 and 1098. The Zx10r is the best Japanese Super Bike for now

Part II: The ZX10 might not have the top-end of the BMW, but I've read that as a whole it works very well. Roadracing World ranked it #1 in their recent test. All of these 3 bikes are too much performance-wise, IMo. If I were you, Mark, I'd go for an R1, (virtual V4), or Aprilia RSV4, (real V4). Machines that are VERY distinctive and charismatic. Again, like the Ducati, I imagine Aprilia parts are expensive though....? I don't know much about them except that they look very sweet indeed.
I knew this was coming---I think most of us did. My opinions follow, for what they're worth. The Ducati is very nice, but parts and service are more expensive than the Japanese bikes--so I'd stay away from that one, (-also too "racy" for the street). The BMW has nicer ergos, IMO, but it might as well be a Japanese machine---there is nothing distinctive about it. To be continued...

@Duc1198YamR1 --- the truth is: all these litrebikes are too good for us street-riders. To put down any of them is retarded, (-unless your name is Ben Spies or Valentino Rossi, etc...). Mark should buy the one that tugs at his emotional heart-strings, the one that fits him best, the one that is painted his favorite colour, or the one that fits his budget the best. Arguing performance is moot--unless you're a racer, (-but racers modify stock bikes anyway!). And yes, Checa is awesome!!

@LaoKidd21 go check the World SBK status you idiot, yes "Idiot" not Idoit. since 1988 Ducati has won 13 world Championships and 15 manufacturer tittles...that's more than any other manufactures "COMBINED" and Checa is leading the World Superbike Championship piloting a DUCATI... and for the record, the Ducati 1098 was the bike of the year in 2007...so check the fact first before you open your mouth dude....

@LaoKidd21 ---Not that I'm a big Ducati fan, but your statements are patently unfair. Ducati has had great success in racing and their bikes are not slow by any measure, (-they look nice, too). Some people actually prefer riding twins to fours and Ducati has that niche filled---those guys must have small dicks, though?!? Your post smacks of bitterness and jealousy. Save up your money and one day you can afford a Ducati, too.

@Duc1198YamR1 -- Hey, Honda has it's problems just like any other company no offence taken. A nice bike is a nice bike period end. All 3 bikes: the kawi, the duc, and BMW, are gorgeous to me. Personally, I'd go for an R1 or RSV4, though.
The 1198 SP is realllly nice too.... (it comes with everything). So many choices out there--you really can't go wrong. Hell, they have new 2010 GSXR1000's on sale here--I'd take one of those in a heartbeat, too. For me cost is also a factor.

Kawi might be easier on the pockets but you cant go wrong with that or the BMW. the kawi was a little more comfy on my wrists than the BMW though. My choice would be the Kawi.

Go with your heart man they are both good bikes. I saw the BMW in person at a coffee shop and it looked assume. A lot smaller than expected and the owner said it's on par with a ducati.
The BMW will make you more distinguished on the street. The Ducati looks like the 1198 and 1098. The Zx10r is the best Japanese Super Bike for now

Part II: The ZX10 might not have the top-end of the BMW, but I've read that as a whole it works very well. Roadracing World ranked it #1 in their recent test. All of these 3 bikes are too much performance-wise, IMo. If I were you, Mark, I'd go for an R1, (virtual V4), or Aprilia RSV4, (real V4). Machines that are VERY distinctive and charismatic. Again, like the Ducati, I imagine Aprilia parts are expensive though....? I don't know much about them except that they look very sweet indeed.

I knew this was coming---I think most of us did. My opinions follow, for what they're worth. The Ducati is very nice, but parts and service are more expensive than the Japanese bikes--so I'd stay away from that one, (-also too "racy" for the street). The BMW has nicer ergos, IMO, but it might as well be a Japanese machine---there is nothing distinctive about it. To be continued...
