  • before i watch anything on this page, The Noctua NH-U12P.. or any noctua cooler for that matter will always blow away the intel stock cooler. This comparison makes no sence

  • do you think that stock cooler is enough without any overclocking and changes?

  • i have my i7 2600k oc to 4.7ghz with 54C with all cores on full load

  • man this is crazy , this is to high temps with noctua, and i recommend you to rotate noctua like this for better air flow youtube.com/watch?v=eFwwCEjeaKA

  • Boy those fans sure are ugly.

  • If you want to cook egs with it. Why not ?

  • Could i use my stock cooler to overclock my i5 2500k to 4ghz?

  • @carbinfibre I wouldn't recommend it.

  • @carbinfibre no chance the stock coolers barely enough with stock clocks

  • you guys should use one of the corsair H# series water coolers! my H70 took my AMD 955 from 84C down to 38C! realy its worth the 100-150$

  • I think the stock cooler wins :P

  • You had the cooler the wrong way round. Turn it 90 degrees anticlockwise so it blows air from the front of the case and out the other end of the case where the fan is. It will probably yield quite a difference in temperatures.

  • Motherboard looks small with that huge arse cpu cooler, lol.

  • Humm Just something for you oOADROo You mount the noctua reverse it s not the good place the fan can t extract air like this now you can make a real test lol

  • @mrmeth6 Thanks!! i have already put it the right way

  • Nice cooler :)

Does it fit on an Antec 1200 with a side-fan?

  • C'mon comparing water and mlik?

  • Dude mount your cpu cooler the right way, and don't let your cpu heat up to 95 it's really bad for you cpu

  • First you write that you have 69c under heavy load with the Noctua Cooler then you later state that you had a max temp of 54c after 24 hours.. huh?

  • Lol this is like comparing a Bugatti vs a Bicycle.

  • nice music :)

  • What music did u use on the vid?

  • @RM9K Cassino & Laben Feat, Marina Puglisi - Lasting Memories

  • cool cooler

  • You guys are fucking bonkers letting your CPU get to 95c. That is just scary.

  • just get liquid cooling

  • @BassPounderX I have a water loop and I might be switching to this instead. It performs amazingly for how simple it is. No maintenance, no bi-yearly flush/treatment.. not that maintaining a water loop is even that difficult or bothersome, but I think it's just flat out impressive that an air cooler can perform better than most sealed water loops. This thing is amazing.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=uKyWjs_j43Y

  • My Athlon X4 II 640 3.0GHz has a temperature 17 at idle and 26 on max ''Max means crysis on highest settings'' and ''around 50 heavy programs''

    I have this cooler btw!

  • @robinjo26 i don't think this can be truth... a cpu cooler can't cool anything below the room temperature, and its always around 5°C above (even if its a freaking good cooler!), so your room temperature is around 10-12°C? get a heater, man ;)

  • @ThoseGuysWithGits well, no obviously your computer wont get any cooler then your room if you use a crap cooling system. If fans isen't enough you could always use water cooling throughout your entire computer.

but then i doubt your using x2 200mm Fans.. or anything close to it.

  • @zappzoe It has nothing to do with a crap cooling system. Air cooling can NEVER cool below the ambient temperature, no matter how many fans you slap in there.

  • Nice cooler, but... will it blend ?

  • My Phenom II x4 965 is clocked to 4.3GHz with this cooler and never goes above 50 degrees. This cooler is amazing.

  • I've got one on my I7 920nd it runs 43C at idle. Running at 100% using BOINC on all cores, it jumps to 63C in turbo mode using the EPU-6 utility that came with my ASUS Rampage II Extreme.

This thing is NOT for shallow cases. It's tall, BIG and it moves a boatload of air. So a deep, breezy case is in order to get the most from this beast.

AS Dreadlockyx put it, almost any cooler can beat the crackerboxes Intel puts with their chips.

  • Thts totaly hot for such an expensive cooler.

My Corsair A70 is 28° C at stock and 65° C at overclocked to 4GHz.

    I'm using an i5 760.

  • I BUY IT FOR 68€

  • I have this cooler in a Antec 300 case with a Core i5-750 @ 4GHz and my max load temp is 78-82C.

  • will it fit on a ASUS P6T SE with a Cm Storm Sniper (with Side Fan) ???

    thx

  • Any cooler will beat a stock cooler. No need to proof this.

  • you know, those temps for a stock cooler really aren't that bad

  • anything out performes an intel stock cooler oh and i have ninja 3 with one fan at slowest speed costs 55 dollars and artic silver 5 4.3ghz 84c after ten minutes very stable and no matter what temps its alway at 38 c 0 load oh and in winter i cant wait my room temps are like 85f or 30c so ha

  • anything out performes an intel stock cooler

  • dude u shouldnt let ur cpu reach higher than 70c thats bad

  • @immortal4942 Since his processors features a technology called "CPU throttling," he shouldn't need to worry too much since throttling decreases the processor performance to prevent overheating. But otherwise, he's doing an awful job--not really.

  • awesome dude

  • whata a mini mobo u have

  • intel vs amd

  • dude those temps are not good. they are better then intel stock but they are still not good at all. 70C + is pretty hot.

My core i7 870 only hits 55C with a corsair h50 cooler and push pull fans on the radiator.

  • @kyleglied congrats you made a fool out of yourself on 2 levels ;)

  • @MG5319 And how is that?

;] the noctua isnt performing well and i pointed it out.

your the one making the fool out of yourself...

  • @kyleglied you moronic faggot. You are comparing an air cooling heatsink/fan combo from noctua to a FUCKING closed circuit liquid cooling from Corsair. How is that ever comparable. Off course liquid cooling is better, but in the category air cooling Noctua has the superior products with very good cooling and low sound production because of the vortex control notches ...

  • @MG5319 =O someone is on their period.

    and has a mangina.

how much does this cooler cost? corsair h50 is only 70-80$

even if this is 50$ spend 20-30$ more for better cooling with not maintenance as well

  • @kyleglied You should really learn to read little fagboy. This video ain't about which cpu cooler is the best. It's a comparison between a fucking noctua cooler and intel stock. Are you THAT stupid? Everyone knows the corsair h50 is better and on par with the higher end air coolers you nimwitt. You don't have to come brag here with your "I am too poor and dumb for true watercooling". Now go suck on your own e-penis and go get pwned in COD MW2 by a hacker. Kids ..jesus

  • @MG5319

I would love to see your piece of shit computer you have.

Obviously you are a little shit kid who has no life and likes to TRY to curse people out.

I WILL RAPE YOU WITH AN RPG UP THE ASS AND TACTICAL NUKE YOUR MILF OF A MOM. shut the fuck up. you have a peice of shit laptop i bet. now go fuck your sister you sick FUCK.

  • @kyleglied Just shows how small your brains are kiddo. You've just proven me right with your angry "troll/flamer" comment. I doubt you have got an RPG or connections with someone who has one. Too bad for you I actually DO. Tactical Nuke ? COD MW2 much? HAHA BTW ever heard of custom watercooling. Well thats what is in my system. I doubt that fits in a shitty laptop. Oh and fyi I dont have a sister. Bye angry little gamer nerd with a shit pc ^^

  • @MG5319

Your just angry your a fat 12 year old asian kid who still sucks his mom's tit.

Take your Dual Core piece of shit processor, stick it up your ass, and overclock it until it gigahurtz your ass.

Until you get a 980X overclocked to 4.5ghz with temps below 70C on a Corsair h50(soon to be h70) go suck a chode.

I will rape you with a predator missle. And am level 70 with a kill score of 43 to 3, and have tactical nuked your moms vagina many times.

pwned go suck your fat chode.

  • @kyleglied Haha. I like you man. Love how you keep saying corsair h50, while I said I have a custom four component watercooling system and 980X is useless. Just buy an i7 930 OC it to 4.2 GHz and it's enough. NO need to pay 1000 more xD

Asian hm could be :P fat? I dont think so. 12 years old meh more like 20+. But I guess everything you said was just a refelection of your own situation. Have fun trolling as this is my last reply.

  • @MG5319

    HAHAHA 930 at 4.2ghz? Newb.

LIke how u dont say what processor you have. and ignore the dual core thing i said. hmmm.

im sorry your custom watercooling can cool down a dual core processor. A fan from the 99C store could cool that shit down.

So what your saying is your a fat asian man who enjoys thinking his computer is fast, plays call of duty, wishes he had an i7 930, and has no life because he starts shit on youtube trolling...

Hope you get a better life soon. Dont repy bitch.

  • who much the Cpu temp will be with an noctua nh 12p on a Amd x4 965 @4ghz..?

  • @Exoime You will be lucky if it wont overheat and shut down. I recommend the D14.

  • bad overclock? xD 3dgm's 4ghz stock 920 runs @ 88@ full load

  • I was not sure about these 2 coolers

    thank you

  • @pedrito94gomez lmao

  • @FRURMELLL

that's not true... you can take off the cooler from a running i7 and nothing will happen

above about 110°C the cpu shuts down the computer and you can just boot normaly

(hope my english was correct ;D)

  • @Rusher shouldnt leave it higher tho, for every 10 degrees above 70 your CPU loses a year of its lifespan

  • @Splooshiba are you sure?

Because my old Pentium 4 has over 70° sometimes, because of the high vcore (only if its hot outside ;D)

My P4 runs now for over 5 years several hours almost every day and I haven't got any problems at all :P

  • @Rusher0 thats what intel say. it means if your cpu is 80 constantly it will decrease a year

so i guess occasionally going over will cut off less time, but its still not good. lower temp the better, the quoted lifetime is if its running at 70. cooler = longer

  • @Splooshiba that's true, otherwise you wouldn't buy a cooler ;D

  • Comment removed

  • wait wat? This cooler can't fit in a coolermaster cosmos? i was planning to buy coolermaster cosmos 1000 can it fit? =(

  • yes, It will

  • Great! 5/5

    I have the same Noctua NF-U12P, and E8600 @ 5.0Ghz (500x10.0)/1.5V Max Temp in games 68C

    Awesome cooler!

  • I am thinking of getting this air cooler but does it get in the way of the memory dimm closest to the cpu? In your video at 0:19 it looks like the memory dimm closest to the CPU is unused because the clip looks like it is not snapped in. I think you have only 3 memory sticks installed so maybe you did not need to use the one closest to the CPU but if you did have to use it would you have been able to? Or is it blocked by the cooler. Is there a clearance problem on that memory dimm?

  • in the video i had my cooler pointing down which did take 1 dim slot but i have my cpu cooler pointing the other way now and all is good

  • lol your only suposed to use 1 fan. the extra is a spare.

  • @DISTURBED9456 ... Is that why they put FOUR wire mounting clips and FOUR rubber strips? So you could use one fan? Not likely. You're supposed to use both.

  • uh....no you can/supposed to use 2, push-pull config better cooling...i hope yer joking u cant be that retarded.....

  • btw you put it in wrong... it should be aimed towards your rear fan to continue with the directed airflow from the frontal fans. (could be y you get your hot vid card)

  • so i could play with 4.2 ghz in 24/7 without getting to warm?

  • LOL. Are you serious? You have trouble fitting this noctua cpu cooler in cosmos s? Then i have trouble fitting it into haf 922.. i guess.

  • c1 or D0 stepping?

  • Very nice test, it helped me, thx

  • i have Cooler mAster n520 cpu cooler, core i7 asus p6t deluxev2 and i get maximal 57* ceclius

  • can u tell me how to install an extra fan like my gpu card tempreture is too high and i want to install a new 120mm fan for my gtx 285 do i have to install it infront of my gpu card but how? thank you and do i still need to overclock , after installing the 120mm fan and while installing 120mm fan , do i have to change any other origonal fan of my pc or not? help me out plz thank you
  • Cool test.I get lower temperatures and i have it OC'd at 3.2ghz.The temps are lower than yours on 2.66ghz.Around 46 celcius in full load.

  • dont u have autoshut down at 85 celcius ?

any Noctua is just BIG BALLAX in their heatsinks, especially fans and thermal materials. The silliest thing i ever purchased and throwed in the bin.

  • asus probe gets its stats from the bios there the real stats

  • 95 degrees?!?!

    :O

  • that better or zalman cnps9900 and can i with any one of them overclock the i7 920 to 4.2GHz someone reply please.

  • you can with the Noctua but not sure if you can with the zalman

  • 70 Degrees !!!! im so angry about that.

  • Coo...l hook me up once you get one.

  • Yep you could say. I only seen 2 video on youtube with that cooler, i personally wouldn't buy it.

  • Yes.. its a monster of a cooler... but its unpractical. The thing covers the ram slots, so each time you need to do an upgrade you need to take out the cooler which is very risky and one little mistake and its good by CPU and Motherboard

  • it only covers the ram slots dude to the way you put it on doesnt it? I have seen pple put it on so the fans face left and right and then it doesnt cover the ram, than again you have a small case so you may not be ble to do this.

  • Noctua has realy great cooler. My NH-C12P can fits my micro atx case and still has a 120mm fan.

  • Not to mention, good use of artic silver 5 or any other decent thermal paste out there takes the stock cpu temps way down on Intel's stock cpu fan as well.

  • Nice video, but you gotta realize that when Intel releases a boxed processor(retail) they don't intend you to overclock it....So pressing the issue of how much cooler it is with an aftermarket fan isn't that surprising. Better CFM= a cooler cpu. It's not rocket science. Intel's boxed coolers tend to work just fine for what they're intended for.

  • Nice man :) thanks

  • YW.

  • nice man :O :D:D:D

  • 95 C? Wow, that could kill ur CPU

  • 2 fans?!? Why did mine only come with 1!!!!????

  • they only come with one but he baught an extra one for better cooling

  • its like an extra 30 bucks

  • The fans themselves are 20$ + shipping a piece, if you buy them separate.

  • You must have got the standard NH-U12P with a 1366 bracket included.

The NH-U12P SE 1366 comes with 2 fans.

  • I think the LGA1366 comes with 2

  • Nice test and a nice video! ty ;)

  • ive got this exact cooler, it runs cooler when my cpu is over clocked (extra 0.6ghz) then it did when it was on stock clocks with the standard cooler.

  • Can this fit on my P5N-E Sli Motherboard, and does it support Intels duocore 2.667 Ghz?

  • not this particular one. You need to get the NH-U12P for the LGA775 socket

  • it supports dual core

  • k thanks, i ended up going with the CoolerMaster N520 or something like that, O well .

  • Nice choice.

  • 2.66? u have a i7 cpu right?

    nice vid, really help. cheers!

  • My Noctua do suck, Your fisher price laptop has better cooling XD

  • Listen, there is nothing wrong with Noctua, they cool well, but in several reviews I've read that they are poor at air pressure, meaning that any obstacles (like dust over time on the heatsink) will quickly drop the cooling performance.

"Your fisher price laptop has better cooling"

Nope, I build my own system and btw, it has a Thermaltake 120 Ultra that blows your Noctua out of the water in every test, don't force me to prove it or you'll sleep bad for 2 weeks lol

  • Well Mr. noob'' if your heat sink dose start to collocate dust , just clean the damn thing.

  • Noctua sucks, not enough air pressure.

  • would this cooler fit my nzxt tempest ??

i heard its so good and i just wanna overclock mine to 3.2ghz for normal use and 3.6 in extreme conditions.

  • hi, i have several questions since im about to build my own pc

what is this noctua 90degrees and normal? i have 12 gb ram will i be able to fit all of them in?

    any advice and help?

    thank you

  • just a question, did you need to remove the motherboard from the case to install the cooler? are there any coolers you can install without removing all the connections and the motherboard?

    thanks

  • Once the Brackets are in place you don't have to take out the motherboard each time you need to take out the heat sink or replace a CPU

  • Hi mate

What happens if you try to rotate the Noctua 90 degrees, so that fans blow out air in the back? Would it fit along with your Dominator RAM?

  • if you have a exause fan in the top rear of your case you should face the fan upwards

  • Yes. don't do what i did in this video' you won't be able to fit all your dims in

  • Is there any slimmer coolers for the side or some other cool on that spot instead of a cooler?Something just to cover it up and make the side look cool.

  • Not to sure m8

  • I got i7 too and the noctua cooler, but i have to use the stock one.I got NZXT Apollo case, but the side cooler on the case hits the noctua heatsink when i try to close the case.Any ideas?

  • yo thanks for the vid

but could i OC my Q9650 to 4GHz with less than 73c with this cooler?

  • It should be less than 73c but best to do more research. im running CPU @3.8, fully mixed out i get no more than 50c

  • Thanks for reviewing this it deffinately makes up my mind. Going to be building a computer shortly and wanted to think about OCing a 920 to 3.2gig.

My only concern seeing the video is it looks like the hot exhaust from the processor goes onto the video card. Can you mount the Noctua so it vents out the back of the case?

I'm getting the ATX/BTX thermaltake armor series case.

  • The official website states that placing the Noctua in the horizontal position is the way to go(like in the video).

Saves you 4 to 5 degrees celsius.

  • i've reinstalled the Noctua Fan with a drop of "Arctic Silver 5" thermal paste, i got the same temps.

my question is : i overclocked the CPU @ 3.2Ghz

    Temps idle are :

    CPU = (47-50)C

    Cores = (55-64)C

    Temps stressed are:

    CPU = (54)C

    Cores = (74-78)C

Can these temps. do any damge to CPU?

i overclocked my CPU, cuz i need to run my RAM Frequency @ 1600Mhz. :o

  • If the CPU & Ram voltage isn't in the red zone it should be fine.

  • i only have chosen ram v. to = 1.64

cpu = auto (didn't change it)

but what temperatures that damage CPU?

omg, when i ran my ram @1600mhz, my PC crashed during working on it.

    now back to 1066mhz XD

you know how to run RAM at their desired speed (1600mhz)?

    thanks

  • if you overclock the cpu the ram frequency changes.

My CPU is @ 3.8gb and my ram is @1457mhz (something like that)

    #ram voltage 1.66v

  • core i7 920 @ 2.8

    idle CPU temp.

    ASUS PROB 39C

    REALTEMP 30C

    MAX OUT CPU temp.

    ASUS PROB 57C

    REAL TEMP 50C

  • ASUS PROB ?

    Real temp?

CPU temp is more important than the cores' temps???

  • Prob is cpu. real temp is cores

  • then my fan is not working properly :(

core temp. is more the CPU temp. by 10C

  • i've got this fan + core i7 920 @ 2.6

    idle CPU temp. = 33C

    idle cores temp. = 41C

    good? :(

  • if you're not overclocking its almost the same as the stock cooler.

  • i'm not overclocking

    room temp. 28 C

maybe there is a problem with installation (which is i don't think so).

What temps should i get with this fan?

i7@ 2.6, GB EX58, thermaltake spedo advanced case.

  • i might get this cooler since its so quiet, but the color is ugly.

  • I intend to built an i7 pc and i will probably use one of the Asus motherboards. I don't intend to overclock at all. Which heatsink would you people suggest? The stock sucks, it reaches 85C, that is too much. I' ve seen many reviews and this HS seems to be the best option.

Should I buy a not so tall HS at best? I haven't bought the case yet. It will be maybe a HAF 932 or a Storm Sniper, at all cases a Full tower. Thanks for help! Great video..

  • Try the Cooler Master Hyper TX2.If you plan on going with air rather than liquid cooling.

  • if your not gonna overclcok then the stock cooler is fine. it only reached 82C when it was overclocked to 3.6ghz at stock speeds it is great keeps it at 63C which is respectable.

  • Oh hey man i forgot to mention that my CPU stays at 63C under a full load on 64-bit windows 7... and on windows vista 32-bit it actually took like 13min to get that hot, but with windows 7 it took about a whle extra 7min for it to reach that hot.... and that's with it being overclocked to 3.8ghz.... im not to sure if its cause it's windows 7 or if its cause its 64-bit... (just wanted your oppinion on that.)

  • Not sure.

  • Careful. 63C is quite hot for a CPU, even under full load.

  • Yeah I know, but i stressed the computer out for like 30min and it did fine, and went an extra 20min to see if it would go up but it didnt. so im pretty sure its alright for me.

  • It's possible. As long as it isn't your idle temp it's okay.

  • LOL! no way man, that's not my iddle temp, my idle temp is like 31c-33c while overclocked.

  • Of course, I'm idling at 31 right now. A processor under full load is very stressed, so of course it's understandable.

  • I see "thekost" is back and issueing a $100.000 challenge.

Starting to wonder about that guy, theres obsession and theres....him.

  • Well I will be answer to that challenge once I get my 64-bit system... look forward to my series about him and Emeek after I get my system as well... "Debunking Emeek the Snake Oil Mac Salesman" and "Why do people laugh at Kost?"

  • Lol some guy just hacked his account all his vids have been removed again.

  • Yeah I know.

  • Those Intel stock coolers are horrible! I had to changed it A.S.A.P because the CPU was overheating and the whole system was crashing! LOL!

  • Agreed

  • I've got my stock E6600 running at 3.3ghz without any kind of problems.

  • Yes' but the core i7 stock cooler is made in a way just to give you a small amount of overclocking. when i removed the stock cpu fan it had a bit of thermal paste and the heat sink was only touching the top middle of the surface, leaving big gaps for heat to generate.

  • well I seen stable i7 3.8ghz with stock cooler, u call that small amount of overclocking?

  • This should fit in my Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 with no doubt.

  • i hope so

  • Cool vid. Never heard of Noctua or I just didn't knowice it before. I was going to go with Zalman when I get my Phenom II. Looks like I have another option. Kudos and 5 stars here

  • Zalman makes cool stuff. I only got the Noctua

because on CPU cooling test, it came top.

  • Wow didn't know
