I find Misa a tragic character, probably the most tragic. I definitely don't hate her, and I respect her because she follows her heart. L is cruel. My god, did you even watch the series? He locks people up with no light and no sensory input for months to test them. He forces members of the investigation squad to leave in order to support their families without telling them that he'd pay them if they chose to stay. There are many times in the show when the people around L call him cruel outright. The whole show is a tragedy, so you're really not supposed to be cheering for anyone. THAT is the beauty of the show.

Matt appears for about 5 minutes in the anime, and in about 20 panels in the manga. Give or take a few. He the dude with the vest, striped shirt, red hair, and goggles. He smokes and plays video games. He somehow has fangirls.

L was a complete genius, why deathnote is fascinating. He uses it only for good, including offering his life several times. He was ego-less, which is why socould make decisions objectively and let people close to him hate him. He had a minor flaw obviously, but no tragic flaws at all. L is an inspiring character, selfless, 99% modest, but so unthinkably genius that he becomes more fascinating than the bad guy, which is very rare. I want to be just like L. Good guys finish first!
