on the run from nashville tn. when 42nd st. times sqare was tha ultimate shit!! 1985 thru 1988 i was a fugitive with my walkman listening to 98.7 kiss and 107.5 wbls. ill never forget my experiences. i learned how to survive and i became a real new yorker!!!!!!
wow, that would be amazing to hear. especially a clean recording! I'd be forever grateful if you found it and sent me an mp3 or something. I sent Red Alert an email asking the same (he's on my friends list on Scratchvision), but haven't heard back from him yet.
This is the very exact same recording i had on tape for decades till a fire in my ex-crib burned all my stuff including most of my old tapes. Same exact airing on the FM, Man i can't even believe im hearing this again. I can remember the sunshine in my queens crib, window open and playing this cool shit. Dang man im friggin old now heh.
Damn, man, sorry I didn't see your post until now. I was in Astoria Projects when I recorded this. Our apartment looked out over the East river to the City, and while it was recording, I was wishing I was there as this shit was going down. Sorry to hear about your shit. Man, I bet you had some serious shit up in that place...
@will...i was visiting family in Queens (Astoria ProjectsU and I recorded it that night. Man, the memories of that weekend!
@Monolithic...i was saying the same thing for years, and nobody believed me! Actually, this tape was so old that I had to take it out of the original cassette case and use a newer one! Lol
Maybe they re-recorded it, but I keep telling cats that Ultra had a version of this song that was waaaaay slower than this and didn't have all that extra shit in it... I'll always regret lending the tape I had it on to a friend of mine over 20 years ago... This version is still dope tho! Thanks for posting!
I have Ced Gee as a friend on Facebook (add him, he's pretty cool), and he doesn't have this version anymore. I tried Moe Luv and Red Alert, but never got a response.
Been listening to hip hop since 79' fell in love when this song came out! SICK! It's incredible how raw and imperfect this version is - Strickly dirty (As I call it) and a testament to Hip Hop production history. Today's music is just to digital and clean. On another note- compare this song and the production of Wu's 36 Chambers. Thanks for posting and getting me to dig up the Kiss FM tapes I still have left over from the ones I stupidly lent to friends and never got back!!!!!!!!!!!
@jaysundawn That's funny of all the things I've ever collected I've been stingiest about my tapes. If i can post any thing maybe we can exchange stuff.
I really dont people will ever understand how monumental this track is. I hope that everyone will compare this one to the later versions, and they will be BEGGING CED, Keith, and Red to re-release this version. i recorded this one my little sister's crappy cassette recorder because my record button was broken on mine.
BTW, I have ALL the other versions, and they don't come close to this one at ALLL!!
@DJStorm1200 Back when I was a kid b4 I bought my first stereo, I used to play records on my sisters toy record player and record them on an old school dictation cassete recorder. LOL Thanks for the awesome upload!
